Spooky has a captivating way of telling stories. I felt that shit, have him back in a few!
Adults play videogames. PERIOD. Taking the 'network' approach for our hobbies/livelihoods doesn't hit like a 'Spooky' stream. The thing that I respect the most is that he takes BOTH elements...the professionalism and quality of a 'network', and the unadulterated, raw grit that is the FGC and melds them together in a way that doesn't make me feel like, 'foh with this bullshit [fake shit, etc.]'. If there's a technical issue, he's gonna say there's a technical issue and not 'hEy WaOh...WhAt A gReAt TiMe To WaTcH tHeSe SpOnSoReD aD sLiDeS fOr An HoUr BeCaUsE rEaSoNs'. I feel like I'm 'there' with a Spooky stream. Like, there's a 'respect' extended to me (the viewer) as an ADULT to be able to handle consuming the FGC as is instead of putting the 'pixie dust' all over it (Santa Claus/Tooth Fairy/Easter Bunny, etc. if that makes sense).

I'll take E League for example. incredibly well produced...but you can tell 'that ain't what he wanted to say there'. It's getting better because I guess they're starting to give them more...'slack' with the pop-offs, but I need the players, commentators, hosts, etc. to keep it a buck. Say what you wanna say. Rated R doesn't mean chaos...just that it's Rated R. 'Networks' lose to the internet for a huge reason...lets move forward.

Your discussion on why SFxTekken died: It died because Capcom laced it with micro transactions (the Gems and the additional Costumes) despite advertising that everything would be in game. Then they sold individual characters as DLC, but the data miners found the characters were actually on the disc already, you were just paying for an unlock code / unzip code. The final nail in the coffin was at EVO it became “Jab Fighter x Tekken” because you could infinitely jab stun your opponent and timing someone out was all the rage.
Props to spooky for being one of the originators of the FGC media. Gotta respect it

Man, this part about RLewis is sad as hell. I admire his work, one of the few people that I can safely say does the gaming journalist job right. I'm still not clear on what's gotten him on some loud minorities and trolls who are allegedly from the FGC, but all I know is these guys really hate him for it and he unfortunately paid serious attention to them so he wants out.
About that thing that Yipes was talking about, apparently he was supposed to get an award but, again, some loud minorities, this time allegedly from OW, really hated his guts so they attempt to foster "discussion" with him to the point where he blocked them all, which then started the whole "get blocked by this guy and you're in the cool kids' club" shit. Some guy who claim that he's from the FGC said he got blocked (due to Richard's use of some kinda blocklist) and then it spread to the FGC from there.
*TL:DR* He paid too much attention to trolls and is now trashtalking the FGC because he thinks the whole community is going for his head.

Yo funny they spoke on fortnite and money made through a free game. I watched a youtube vid about it and its part peer pressure and creativity/individuality. Its more with the younger crowd. They even have watch parties with loot boxes to see if they get something. Almost sounds like gambling but that literally is what pumps money into fortnite. Activision with COD had a same premise
Here's the thing. In DoTA 2 I (an old school rts player) have an 85% winrate. When my three friends party with me we have a 65% winrate. On their own they have a 35% winrate. After I quit playing they stayed and now have 2k-3k hours each. Those victories I got them set the seed for a deep love of the game.
Think about the psychology of that shit when starting out. If my friends play fighting games with me they are lucky to get one hit in less I tone it down and experiment (which I've gotten really good at). They can do literally nothing in DoTA 2 and I could still get them such a lead with my meepo that they could whoop ass and feel great even if they contributed NOTHING to the game.
If you can't get people to stay around no shitty players for the new players to have the experience they need to get passionate about the game. A competitive person can see the beauty in these games. The average Joe needs to find some success and have a much more manicured experience. Simplifying the game won't do it either. You have to find a way to keep noobs around or find a way I can be teammates with my boys and carry them to some good feelings.
I've seen this in SFxT and it could probably be implemented in 3v3 fighting games too, it would be one player controlling one of the three characters on the team vs other player(s). Like your DoTA 2 example, the most skilled and experienced player could take the last of the three characters to carry the game, while the other 2 newbies could take the first two slots, enjoy the match have some fun and then probably share in a victory in the end.
