Never pay for something before you get the goods delivered. There’s too many scammers out there.
offer to pay the vendor directly for Cost of Goods and delivery....this way, owner maintains title to goods.
The "down payment" seemed twice as high or more than I would expect the entire repair to be.
WOW. Google the company, check reviews, check the name of the guy and demand to show you his ID to prove who he is. Never pay more than the required amount for a down payment. Anyone who claims they need more for materials means they are not financially secure to buy materials themselves.
, yes but it's not uncommon to ask them to purchase raw materials , if tiny operation
So the guy wasn’t actually licensed.
Strange that y’all framed it at the start of the story that he is a licensed contractor.
This isn't a "complaint"; It's felony wire fraud. Need to file with the local pd, and get a warrant issued.
He should be arrested. File a police report.
That contractors last name tells you everything..
This guy is Romanian.
Yeah as soon as I heard that name eastern european immediately came to my mind and they have been doing scams like that for centuries.
@@sharonrose50 🤣
He is a Bosnian mooslem. Should have known just by the name to stay away.
He is a Bosnian mooslem. The names alone should have been a major red flag.
I think that the bank also made a mistake by cashing an altered check.
Come on any contractor you don’t pay a dime until work is done 😮
I would have taken the trailer as collateral.
Las Vegas, Nevada have a lot of landscapes contractor love to scam elderly people too.
Crook is every where - not only in Vegas - Nevada.
The cost of the repair was high. Also the company the check was made out to never cashed the check. The bank should credit the account and pursue bank fraud charges against the guy who forged the check.
it is way past time ppl learn to fix things themselves as well as install them as it seems you can not trust repair ppl nowadays
Elderly, impaired, unskilled. Yeah go fix it yourself grandma. “Way past time” you slacker.
Go to a big box store, they use contractors, but at least youll be dealing with a real company.
The check was altered so it never should have been able to be cashed.
Pretty shady...
last name is the only red flag i needed
It is customary among contractors to require money up front for materials. Maybe it shouldn't be, but it is very common - particularly among companies that don't charge an arm and a leg. When you choose the lowest bidder, you choose to fork over money up front.
Regarding ROC numbers and revocation of licenses, always check to make sure that the number is real and the license is current. I once had a business (pre-internet) and hired an electrician who started a job. I decided to check his ROC # after he started, and it turned out he was no longer licensed. Concerned about the insurance implications, I insisted that he get his license renewed before continuing any work (which he did).
Regarding protection by state government, never count on it. Licenses often don't indicate competency or honesty, and it is the consumer's responsibility in Arizona to fight crooked companies in court. What individuals would be thrown in jail for doing, a company can do without fear of anything more than a slap on the wrist. As a consumer, you're basically on your own. When you vote for smaller government and fewer regulations, you get a feeding frenzy of scammers. But hey, at least your taxes are low.
This is not that shady then…
Simple solution to most of these scenarios...DO NOT PAY IN ADVANCE. Period.
Sue them, people are crooked
That money is as good as gone. He shouldn't have written a check. Hope he gets something back.
WHEN WILL PEOPLE EVER LEARN!!! If Its A Legit Contractor The MOST They Would Require Would Be A 50% Deposit And SHOULD NOT CHARGE THAT!
And PUT IT ON A CREDIT CARD SO YOU ARE PROTECTED FROM FRAUD! It's THAT Simple!
I never pay until a job is done.
Just buy umbrellas!
A lot of the awning companies guarantee their products with replacement parts available. Always go back to your original product company
Only hire American contractors /journeyman.Check the last name. Check their birth certificate and driver's license. .
God bless those people wanting to retire in an oven!! They are very tough....
and brave!!! ❤😊🎉..... I'm losing my mind with the heatwave we're having
here in Massachusetts ...... it's nothing compared to their weather!! 😳🙏❤
@@theresehopkins1581 Does Mass. have high humidity? If so, that makes it really awful!
@@sf9595 Yes..... it's been hot and humid for the last month... and there's no end in sight. We're not used to this.... thank God for air conditioning 🙏
Never pay more than 10% if you even do that too many scammers out there and the law never does anything about it they know what this guy lives and does and still nothing will ever get done ❤😂🎉
2:03 Do banks normally cash modified checks like that? Looking at the letters, it was written by two different handwritings. The A and U are different, the extra name is written in all capitals while the rest of the check is not.
I would hope the bank is at least suspicious. A lot is automated now, but my bank would not cash a check because they wrote it to my company name (a version of my own name) though I ask people to write to me. I had to get a company account for that.
Another reason to actually do your research and take your time before handing out that kind of money out. I sure hope this guy gets his money back
why don't u guys expose these crooks families as well. it's not like they don't know what's happening!!!!
Never pay more than 1\3for materials to start.
Thanks Biden
the ic people always pulling scams.
You could’ve fixed it yourself, looks to me what you have on your house is the same set up as an RV shade blind
Not everyone is that capable. Get real.
Probably a SOMFY motor, e-mail SOMFY, they will refer out the right company. The arms usually not worth fixing unless the canvas is new, I am a Canadian retailer
