This flight was Leg 2 of a trip to Chicago. Not a cloud in the sky. We parked next to an El Al Israel 787-9 on the right side of the aircraft and an American 777-200 on the left side. Quite an age difference between the two aircraft. Takeoff was from Runway 25, which takes you immediately over the Tyrrhenian Sea. It was a rather uneventful climb but as we hit the cruise altitude, there were great views of the French Alps.

That was a really nice takeoff and view of the Alps. Thank-you very much for sharing it with us. I went into and out of Fiumicino Airport a little over 10 years ago, when I visited my half-brother who worked in the US Embassy in Rome. Please do not misconstrue my comment as a complaint, but as soon as I debarked from the plane a huge wall of cigarette smoke smacked me, which made me smile and think, “It sure feels good to be back in Europe.” I really enjoyed my trip and “punched the ticket” when it came to visiting Rome. Actually, the best Roman ruins I have seen are in northern Italy between Milan and Verona. For me, it is as true in Europe as it is in the US: A big city is a big city, no matter the language they speak. Among the few things I remember about my flight out was that my route (Delta Airlines: Rome to Atlanta) flew over Sardinia, Madrid, and Lisbon. Although I did not see the beauty of the Alps, I still found the terrain of those areas very interesting.
The one thing I really regret about Fiumicino Airport is its location. All of the takeoffs and landings are over remote areas, and no one has a view of the ancient city. I really wish they had merely expanded Ciampino airport, which would have given passengers something about which to get excited as they flew over Rome.

Good evening, can anyone tell if the Alitalia airline made regular connections with Romanian airports in the 80s? (from 1980 to 1989). If true, on what days of the week? I ask for this information because Alitalia was unable to respond to my request.
