Love the car man 🔥. This video gave me everything I needed to finish my 36! Thanks also for being an inspiration in the game hopefully one day we cross paths.
Just got a 328i with 270k/km, but it has been super well maintained. Still drives like butter. Obviously before I do anything really crazy I’m probably going to end up doing a manual swap in like a year or 2. Got a little list of some mods I plan on doing that I can do before I go manual. Going to upgrade my intake manifold, put on a real cold air intake, a racing cooling system so the shit don’t break (one my buddy uses said I can get for pretty cheap), heard a big bore throttle body is a good upgrade, exhaust manifold and exhaust, race coilovers (not super low but maybe a bit lower), heard that you can delete the plastic fan and rely only on the electric fan for cooling but idk about that one, just heard that plastic fan is a ticking time bomb. Also heard you can do something about the rev limiter. Also get it retuned when I do those mods so it’s still running properly, ik it will be minimal but still. Until I’m ready to turbo it imma do what I can N/A
I swear I'm on my 30th watch through of this. Thanks so much for the help. I'll tag you in a post once my car is finished. Your videos have helped me learn so much about turbo e36 info.
Great video. Super helpful! I have a supercharged e36 M3. It's an ActiveAutowerke kit but some of the supporting mods you did are very good ideas. I'll be buying some of the stuff on your list. Thanks!
Nicely done. About 20 years ago, I put a Mechtech kit on my E36 M3. It used an Aerodyne VVT turbo with a ball-bearing center section. So, no wastegate, and no oil feed lines (you had to periodically add some eye-wateringly expensive oil to the center section). I bought the kit used for $2k, but then spent at least $1500 on top of that for bigger injectors (the original setup used a RRFPR running the stock injectors at 80 psi under boost. No, that’s not a typo) and a tune from Active Autowerk. Only 7 psi, but it made that starting at 2200 RPM. Your setup looks just a wee bit better engineered :)
Thanks for the list and the recommends! Love the car and this will be a useful checklist for boosting my 328i project car. Hope Ebony is back on the road soon!

Thank you for helpin a brotha out I just bought a e36 drift car and im about to add a turbo soon and this video was simple and easy to sum up what ima have to do. only making stock hp but sooner im hoping for 200+
Did you put the intercooler in there? I might have missed it. But I think you forgot to add the intercooler into your price. Also, great video man. Really informative for anyone thinking about or in the process of turboing a E36. The video would really help with not forgetting the little things.
meanwhile I went the fully built motor route on my e36 m3 s52, with complete rebuild of all suspension components and entire driveline… boostlab turbo with fully custom turbo kit. I’m over 30K deep and the car isn’t even finished yet… lol
Watching your videos to figure out if I want to turbo my m52 e30 that I just did the swap on, not going to now, but planning to in a couple years, except I have the m52tu, debating on doing dual vanos iron block. The na m52tub28 in the e30 as a drift car does great tbh, but turbo
Lol and add atleast another 3k if you are not game to attempt to do it yourself and decide to pay a shop to do the work for you!! Great breakdown vid I'm about to do one of my E36's can't wait to be stressed out haha!!😂
Your second camera has a much more clear, clean film not sure if it’s new ?haven’t watched in a while, anyways tho I think you should make that your main camera for future videos
Are you gonna run a copper spacer with the head gasket ? Also what bore did you get for the cut ring ? I see some advertise 84.5mm and 85mm. Respects! Love the car
This is an 84.5 cutring. From my understanding it should be a hair bigger than your bore and since mine is still stock (84mm for M52) this size is made for it. Also I'm not gonna run a copper spacer. That makes it low compression which can make more power of course but then adds boost lag. I love the way the car feels now and since I'm going E85 next I won't need the lower compression anyways. If I was stuck in a pump gas area then I'd do copper spacer to be safe but E85 is only 10 mins from me
I am running a 3.38 out of an auto M3 because I have a lot of fun with shifting so I don't mind short gears. But most turbo guys like the long gears so they go with 2.93 LSD
It's easier and cheaper to swap a V8 in it, much more reliable too. I love how so many people in comments think they just can put a Turbo into any engine and it would just work like it's magic. xDD
@@itsBlack true and I’m sure that feeling after the first drive is like no other I just personally might go with some sort of itb cam crank build rather than deal with the pains of force induction 😂
@@itsBlack Can you extend on what exactly need to happen to run stock ECU? I have an m50b25 nv & I might start to collect some turbo parts here and there. Going stand alone will add quite a chunk of budget. Are there any downfalls to stock ECU? (Apart from logging/failsafe/etc.)
@@8KGarage it's basically just reflashing it with different info like you would with a basic hp tune. A lot of people stay stock ECU on obd2 because it's easy of course and to do stand alone you have to convert the car back to obd1 for a plug and play (not hard from what I hear). There's plenty of people that make plenty of power on stock ECU including Franks Red E36 sedan that I'm sure you've seen on 1320 videos somewhere. He's build M52 with nitrous making 1200+ on stock ECU
@@8KGarage also just noticed you said M50 so you are obd1 already. For you it may be better to do a plug and play like a Link or something. It's possible to tune a stock 413 label ECU but you have to find someone with a chip burner and swap the chip out in the ECU. For obd2 you just plug it up and upload a new tune in a couple minutes
@@itsBlack correct I have a red label 413, it has a 30 dollar ebay chip in it right now. Going Link might indeed be the better option. Again it adds on to the bill of turboing the car... I might just start collecting parts. The thing is I drift my car & while collecting i'll still be drifting aka risking destroying my car. It's a risky & expensive journey tbh :')
You wasted money in the wrong areas and could have made 600+HP if you put that money in the right places 😑 I've built many 550+HP e36s with half the money you spent on yours

The glove box randomly opening on its own is the most E36 thing ever 😅
This is definitely gonna be my go to video when I decided to turbo my m52 in the future. Awesome work man.

Awesome stuff man. I've got an E28 with an M50b25 non vanos in the pipeline for a swap, defs going to come here again when I'm ready to boost her!
those m50s can put down a good 400 stock boosted

I went with the hpx-e maf... Bigger range, more boost capacity
Is that for track?
well put together video! I’m taking notes

every engine with forced induction should have a mls gasket. i put mls head gaskets in most cars i have even without boost.

Does anyone know the name of the blow off valve, if it can be bought separately, or is it included only with the kit?
question how did you do your roof i love it i have a peeling roof so im looking to change it any recommendations
Connect me with your tuner. I am doing a budget build for track days.
He doesn't tune anymore. He just did me a personal favor

Is there an automatic transmission that fits into a e36 m3 that will handle 400hp ish
