This movie has hilarious moments, but Padraic quietly sobbing as they trek back to their homes is a brutally sad one. One of the worst feelings in the world is losing a friend when they realize that they've essentially "out-grown" you. Sometimes that friend is the only thing you have left before you have to try and move forward with hard realities, whether you like it or not.
This reminds me of having a group of friends in high school but I moved after graduation. I had them on social media and kept in contact for at least 2 years but they gradually stopped talking to me and now Iv gone six years without speaking to them
One of the rare semi happy moments in the movie. Lol like sure, Colm still wants nothing to do with him, but he also clearly still cares about him enough to make sure he's okay. It's less that he dislikes him, but more so that he is trying to stick to what he thinks is best for himself. I loved the movie, but damn is it sad. Haha gotta brace yourself.
@@hustlened7494 it’s unbelievable. The seamless tonality shifts in the movie are impeccable! Goes from being absolutely hilarious to making me tear up in those scene!
I recently got divorced from my best friend because I outgrew him in many ways. And I know for a fact he was basically in Padraig's shoes. This scene made me sob uncontrollably because I know exactly how painful it is to have someone near and alive - and still a world apart somehow. Beautiful writing and heartfelt performance.
Personal question. Can I ask why & when you realized you "outgrew him"? I was literally born in the same hospital as my former best friend, we grew up together, I helped him through some dark times, as he did with me. Then after 30+ years of friendship I see him at a Fair & he tells me he doesn't want to be friends no more. After some incidents & stupid drunken fights I accepted his need to not want to be my friend but after 3 years & a number of mixed messages where he suddenly reaches out after 2 years of ignoring me. I am wary of being suckered into a friendship that he could just end when he wants.
@@Stuart267 Its up to you. I was friends with someone from 7th grade to like freshman year of college. He decided he didn't want to be my friend anymore because of an incident so we split off. Almost a year later I tried reaching out and we talked it over and we've been friends since. So what I am saying is that if you accept your pal back it could happen again but it could go back to what it was. Sometimes people need time to learn what they did wasn't right.
While Colm helped him after getting assaulted, he didn't speak a word to him and barely even acknowledged him or looked at him. It was heartbreak, because up until very recently they wrote good friends, and now he was being cold and distant. In the grand scheme of things, I actually kinda understand why Colm felt he had to do something, but he was needlessly cruel about it.
When I first saw it I thought he was crying because he thought Column was finally taking him back as a friend. Rewatching now I was thinking maybe it's because he knows the split in the road is coming up and their time together in this moment is now over. Could be a million reasons tbh. Good movie.
It's english with Irish accent. I'm peruvian and I find it really cute, especially love when they say "feck" instead of the common one I can't mention here because... UA-cam 😅
If you have a soul you’ll come back to this movie, over and over, slowly realising how magnificent it is in scope and nuance.
I lost count of how many times I watched this movie.
Poor guy . My heart hurts when he was crying 🥺🥺🥺
Yes...heartbreaking...i really hope that Colin Farrell wins the Oscar for Best Actor. 😭

Damn! This comment actually answered a lot of questions for me personally. Thanks.

That’s funny I viewed it the exact opposite lol I found this to be the saddest scene personally
God this scene destroys me every time, by far my favorite scene of the film
Instantly stood out for me, so so bittersweet

Yuck. I just noticed he goes over and pinches the little boy on the cheek. What a creep. Especially considering what he was doing to his own son...
This is a god tier movie

Such a sad scene
01:28 Fucklng heartbreaking the way it slowly dawns on him that whilst he doesn't want to see him hurt he doesn't want to be his friend anymore.
What was that about 'pint you owe me', did he just shake him down or what? haha If not then why did Colm deny it at first
policeman was trying to get a free drink out of him.
Why was Padraic crying?
Because his best friend is cruel to him. :-(((

Because he can’t understand why this person he loves and used to love him back simply doesn’t like him anymore

Why I can't understand anything from their talking 😞 doesn't they talk in English?
