After a long time, the Alien franchise was genuinely able to surprise me. All the sequels have their moments of horror and disgust and thrill, but weren't able to surprise me like this one did with this scene. Well done.
The actor who plays the human-xenomorph hybrid in the 2024 movie Alien: Romulus is Robert Bobroczkyi, an ethnic Hungarian former college basketball player from Romania. With 2.31 m (7 ft 7 in).
At this point, Xenomorphs are more "cool" than anything. I'm glad the franchise gave us something new to be like, "eww, WTF is that." They did so well with the scene too. The build up of music suddenly cutting to silence with a sleep paralysis demon staring at the camera with empty, dead eyes is a great moment.
How to make a monster be a classic horror: Step one, make it humanoid. Step two, remove or distort some parts, make it seem famiiliar but at the ssame time, different, so it triggers a natural rejection response. Step three, use silence to create tension ass well as good lighting that doesnt allow you to see it at full. Done, thats why the offspring is so disgusting looking.
This scene was a game changer for me. The fear was so real and palpable that all I could do was pull away and involuntarily try to curl in on myself and not move. The silence fading into the soft alarms in the background...slowly becoming louder as the hybrid moves closer and starts morphing and its bones cracking. It was absolutely chilling and disturbing...which made it so much more amazing.
The actor playing the Hybrid Baby is actually a real person. (height, body and everything) 😉 I do not remember his name though, but I heard that this was his FIRST appearance in a movie. 😏
I will always remember sitting in a massive IMax theater of 200 maybe 300, feeling the air shift as if we all collectively got hit by a train. I could clearly hear about 20 people gasp in horror as another 10 just said out loud “NOPE”
This scene will go down as one of most terrifying of the franchise. I love how we're having a new trend of practical effects with the likes of Alien Romulus, A Different Man, The Substance and Stop Motion. Too much bad or overused cgi these days
When it pans to its reveal and stopping the music I remember everyone gasping in the theater and I broke the silence by saying “oh my god” and we then all proceeded to scream lmao
@8:56 ish 😘👌 My man on on the left is 100% me and my friend was so disturbed that I had that reaction! Awesome creature design and the fact that it’s practical is even more mind blowing😅
First time watching this I was more in a “Hell yeah! This is awesome!” mood in my head, but the moment this creature popped up I was whisper-shouting “WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT? WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT??”

Seeing the Hybrid in the theater made me mutter what the fuck under my breath. It was a sight to witness.
Same
I may not have said it, but I sure was thinking it! Damn thing is so ugly even a mother couldn't love that abomination.
Same
FYI that was a guy in a suit... that freaky face is real 🤣
"He could be a basketballer!"
Well, funny you should say that...

Holy shit man. That's awesome!
I heard the official name for the creature is “The Offspring.”
He is honestly to me the best part of the movie
I remember screaming in the theater "Oh hell no!" and everyone started laughing. xD

Absolutely, that what makes it so creepy . The Uncanny valley.
Prometheus: We call them Engineers.
Romulus: We call it the Engineered.
that is one of the greatest silent scares of all time...
Literally
Knowing that is a real guy is overwhelming!

Ladies and gentlemen...this is the moment in the theater I mumbled to myself: "What the actual f*ck?"
The only thing that makes me say "wtf" is because how the offspring grew so much in less than 5 minutes.
This movie was a WILD ride in the theater.
This movie did a great job at combining the dread and fear of Alien, along with the action aesthetic of Aliens
This scene will go down as one of most terrifying of the franchise. I love how we're having a new trend of practical effects with the likes of Alien Romulus, A Different Man, The Substance and Stop Motion. Too much bad or overused cgi these days
Isabela Merced is about to have a really weird trend with her roles. IYKYK
0:33 Poor basketball player who had to be the alien's hybrid baby in this movie.
no jumpscare. No excess effects. Just true, pure horror.
Part human engineer and zenomorph combined mutation by the black gue
When it pans to its reveal and stopping the music I remember everyone gasping in the theater and I broke the silence by saying “oh my god” and we then all proceeded to scream lmao
Saw this on opening night. Everyone in the theater gasped . We are so back baby!
Everybody's first reaction was of pure disgustment😂
5:26 😂😂😂😂 Mommaaaaaaaa
@8:56 ish 😘👌

Uncanny valley...that why the hybrid scare us so much 💀
1:43 I know *for a fact,* that guy has a chair facing his bed.
reel rejects best reaction because it had every variation lmao
Not sure what the issue is. Nothing better than mothers milk for newborns.
A bouncing baby boy
The offspring is just repulsive on every level.
Das ist sicher nicht ein Ingenieure WTF
yet it was literally breast feeding. its tongue was attached to one of her nipples
First reaction, that woman was absolutely annoying on the right side 🙄
8:24 "What that tongue do though" is absolute madnessssss 🤣🤣🤣🤣
