    But coach, why don't we do pause squats as novice lifter instead of box squat or regular squat? You said that pause squat is more similar with raw squat motion. Can i replace regular squat with pause squat?

    One of the guys at my gym said that if the bar bounces at the top of a squat it's bad for your back and will contribute to back pain. Even if you brace tight. And normally this guy's training and advice is solid. He told me this because he noticed this since I explode at the top of every rep. Your thoughts/advice?

    How long does the stretch reflex stay in a squat? What is the difference between box squats and pause squats? Would be a great video!! Thanks jason

      Everyone argues about your first question to the point where we don't have an answer and I don't think it matters given that. I've tons of videos on the box squat, breaking down the why, so if you understand the why we box squat it more or less answers the 2nd question. I don't know if they are comparable in a way I could make a coherent video on, however I'm still waking up right now. lol

    The box in my gym is higher then it should be so can I build the box from weight plates ? The bad thing will be it won't be soft when I sit down and that compress the spine worst, is that big deal?

    Is there any benefit to rocking on the box? Even if it doesn’t have extra carryover to raw squat.

      Yes it lets you cheat more weight up. Not really a benefit per se though.

    Thx man.. for years I wasn't sure why I box squated 500 easily on my 1st try but was struggling at the time to get a 405 raw squat. Lol I knew it was something like that but just wasn't sure. Gonna give it a go again correctly

    could you adress stance width on the box squat? is there any point to trying to mimic your normal squat stance, or is it more beneficial to just go with a wider stance for more glute activation?

      You should work on bringing out both if your goal is to squat maximum weight.

    You should check out Jeff Cavaliere's latest Instagram post. I don't know how people can take him really serious when he's doing air squats balancing on a medicine ball smh. He's gonna get someone hurt trying to copy that crap.

    So should I squat with a wider stance than my back squat?

      In my experience it's better to use your normal squat stance and normal form as much as possible for max carryover to your normal squat. I mean, if your box squat looks nothing like your raw squat then it's unlikely to have much carryover apart from the hypertrophy benefits. Sure the Westside guys use super wide stances and sit back a lot on their box squats, but their competition squats look like that too.
