I have a GT-10 in my pedalboard rig and like it a lot. FX sound great, routing is fantastic, and Boss units are renown for gig-worthiness. No matter how good your unit sounds, if it fails you're screwed. That said, I hate COSM modeling. I use my GT-10 strictly for FX and cab sims, and even so I'll be getting a Torpedo CAB for cab modeling soon as an upgrade. I have an analog preamp pedal that I route through the GT-10's loop for my preamp sounds. I think the GT series makes a great "center hub" for controlling one's overall sound, but not so great as a stand-alone product. In my signal chain, I go straight from the guitar into the GT-10 and use its noise gate to keep the sound clean. From there I go out via the sent/return loop to my analog preamp pedal (Covington BMAC30-SS) back into the GT-10 for FX and cab emulation. Actually, I can place some FX before the preamp pedal (phaser, Uni-Vibe, wah, etc.) and some after (stereo delays, chorus, reverb), which the great routing of the GT-10 affords. People with thousands and thousands to spend can buy separate boutique, hand-wired stomps for each effect in their chain, but for live work I think the GT's FX are more than sufficient for a great show. Also, they can all be tweaked differently for each patch and recalled instantly, which you can't do with real stomps. For the price of two designer stomps I can have dozens in one solid, roadworthy chassis. The Zoom's preamp/cab sims has a bit more bite on the top end, which I like. If I were just starting out I would seriously consider the Zoom line. The stuff sounds very good and it's cheaper. But I don't know if it could take the punishment that Boss stuff seems to just shrug off. Same problem I have with Line 6--durability has been hit-or-miss over the years (although it seems they've beefed up their 500X in response to this complaint). The same cannot be said for Boss. Never had a Boss product go down, ever.
Thank you for video. Most of these tests on UA-cam are biased. This one is against the G3x. Everybody who owns both would know that. Why there is a fuzz effect engaged with a heavy noise gate on the high gain zoom clip? Here is my quick take on these two beasts Gt10 pros: more effects, better global settings, better built. Cons: aliasing on high notes, less ergonomic, harsher amp emulations G3x pros: price, battery powered, more ergonomics. Cons: built (cheap plexi glass), cheapo pedal control (wah, volume, the active movement less than an inch) only 6 effect including the amp sim
bladuck1 u are really true.....this one is against zoom....this person has not even described the patch effects, amp simulator used and parameters on either Gt10 or G3x to compare them both.....so without this we can never be able to compare anything between them...this is a completely biased video....maybe he has created different presets with different parameters and effects on both.....just to highlight the one
Zoom's dynamics and nuances are on another level. I have both of these but they're quite different, with Boss' superior looper and beef, but my G3(&X) are just endless in detailed sound potential! Wonderful pedals overall 🌛 An amazing time to be a guitarist.. experimental especially. Caveat: only gripe is that you cannot switch between volume and wa in the same patch on the zoomers
The Zoom sounds a lot more ”analog” and natural, seems to favour playing dynamics more and seems to be more open across the range that the Boss, which seems kind of mid focused.
Shout out for cheap effects, I smashed a 750 capacity venue the other night with my beloved Zoom G1. Have tried so hard to upgrade but nothing comes close for pure tone.
I thought the Boss sounded a bit better but the Zoom held up well for a lot less money. I hope someone here has noted that your playing was great & made the video all the more enjoyable. Thanks.
I have my Boss gt 8 ( older one) and a Zoom g3 with no expression pedal, I tried them both thru the fx loop of my Soldano slo 100 watt head and 4x 12 soldano cab. I'm using of course the Soldano's pre amp section, so I am testing the boss and zoom as fx pedal boards only ( no amp modeling ) I find the Boss GT8 better, less noise and the effects are more convincing, and the amp seems to retain more of it's true tone with the boss effects. I do like the variety ofdifferent effects on the zoom- but the Boss unit seems to have more available functions at your feet. I think it's a case of you get what you pay for…the zoom G3 cost about 160.00 bucks, my Boss GT8 cost like 500.00 bucks or more. so go figure.
With my computer speakers, the G3x had a richer clean sound. The Boss sounded good too and I could gig both and nobody in the audience would notice or care. My vote is for Zoom for the size, portability, loop, amp sim, drum machine, and DI.
I got rid of my GT10 and ended up buying a Zoom G3X just for a back up. I've got to say I love the Zoom.It fits in my gig bag for small rehearsals. Ive also made space for it on my main board. It sounds better than the Boss and for the money you can't go wrong!!
well, listening at this video, my ears, and people comments, the g3x sounds better, only in the hi gain part the gt 10 sounds better, still I think op didn't tweak the g3x enough in the hi-gain, I have listened good high distortion on this unit
I have a G3X. To me the GT10 is more close to real gear, but I prefer the sound of the G3X, its veeeery easy to customize the patches, the sound is more crispy and have much less noise, and this is awesome features for those who play with band. The crispy sound makes it easy to to cut through in a band enviroment, the high gain patches doesn't have those low frequencies that Boss does, but I don't care much about this on a live situation, let the bassist do the lows :)
I have a zoom g9.2tt. I have owned many pedalboards before. It is REALLY difficult to compare different makes and models. First of all whoever wants to get good sounds, must STUDY at least some basics about sound. Generally presets are not good. You MUST know whta to modify, how to do it, and the amount of every little chage you do. Even you must consider the amp gain, volume, tone, as much as the pedalboard parameters. Little changes make great differences. I'm satisfied with my zoom. I can get whatever I want from it. If I had a Boss, or digitech or line 6, I should program them in differents ways. Every engine has its own secrets. It's difficult to find "bad" pedalboards nowadays, but really "bad" programmers.
You stated the heart of the whole thing right there and I wholly agree. I have found sounds I like and use on every single petal I've ever owned but I am a tweaker anyway.. they each have their own personality 👽
Once in my life i had play on Boss multi effect, that was in early 90's, and i loved! That was off chance, when one guy from a band let me have it for a day or two, and i'd love it to a bit. Now, more than 25 years later, i choose Zoom. Why? 1. Zoom is cheaper (half price of Boss) 2. Zoom is better built than Digitech, and any other multi pedals, if you can't afford Boss off course. It is Heavy Duty starting from GFX3 series, and all of them have metal case. 3. About the sound? The most important!... I had manage to download lots of patches on G3X, as setting them up manually is a nightmare. Am sure you can do this on Boss as well, but the clear cooperation of guitar/effect/computer (Cubase Element8-which is given with effect) / your amplifier / general output = very, very nice sound:) Am into heavy metal stuff, like really heavy, and i noticed, 90% of Zoom (or any other pads on the market) won't suit me. But I'm so happy of this 10% i have been given! It is great!!!
@@bbuteo I would never buy a boss cause the price, the same for other brands, is ridiculous that tech is soo basic, is not a fucking lap top is much more basic than a lap, helix well helix is a fucking monster
Zoom tone depth is Much lower than the boss gt10...and boss produce a high quality modulation and the distortion tones are also more powerful in gt10. So u should compare this zoom G3x with boss me- 25. (In my opinion boss me 25 is lilbit powerful than G3x)
Having tried both, owning the zoom, the GT-10 is a pain in the ass to set a good sound fast and especially in high gain applications, that cocked wah sound gets on your nerves. The zoom is superior. If you like the boss functionality, just put a g3 in its loop and get better modelling with boss effects etc, still it tone sucks a bit whereas the zoom doesn't (at least with the amps I have).
The GT10 (and the 100) are both absolutely perfect at producing something sounding 100% 'Digital' AArgh. The Zoom on the other hand can truly fool me into believing I'm listening to something 'Real' - Not always; but at least sometimes. No contest. Well done China :)
+Ezwan Rosli :) Correction correction. lol. You are quite right that Zoom is Japanese, but they are outsourcing to China for manufacturing, like most companies these days. Since I posted this article I've bought the Zoom G5, which states 'madein China'. I could be wrong about the 3X though. Merry Christmas. Buon natale a tutti.
I wasn't disputing that it was Japanese genius that created it. Bravo Japan and Zoom, I say. I couldn't live without my G5...it is better than you could imagine (to anyone who hasn't used one). Hey...maybe they should get me to do their advertising. lol :)
I have both of the pedals. And boss GT 10 is much better. It's sounds are just pure , with really nice&special effects , probably best wah effects , a bank with over 400 built in effects , what else would you need in a pedal?
how come the BOSS GT 10 sounds more mid than the G3X .. what kind of pickup do you use for the comparison ? is it the same guitar or ?? because you didn't describe it
I'm a pedal guy, but starting to really like the G3. I was messing with one at Guitar Center on a decent Ibanez and a Gibson SG on a Fender Hot Rod or Blues Deluxe can't remember.. Thought it sounded really Authentic. I was really impressed with the Delays. Perfect Cheap Multi-Effects if your on the go, practice, recording, or if you want to add additional effects to your Board and save space. Hell the looper and delays alone are worth the $150.
looking at your you tube page you have 0 activity and = videos which indicates to me you may work for or be associated with Zoom, so i have to take your name and critic as possibly not neutral ...
John Winters hmm... is that a bit like when you are bidding on something on eBay, and suddenly some brand new eBay user that just joined 5 minuets ago outbids everyone...?LOL!!!
Hmm, I smell Boss bias. The settings for the Boss were much thicker with significantly more mid and bass than the Zoom. I tried the Zoom myself, it has the potential to sound quite a lot like the Boss you have here. Also my ears are telling me you used a humbucker for the Boss but for the Zoom you used a single coil guitar? Nothing's wrong with either, but the point of a comparison like this is to take two variables under the same factors/circumstances :) IMO!
lulus panjulus Elsewhere, spanish guy says the GT-10 has awesome Equaliser, would explain difference and still be fair if it is part of the kit in-built I guess?
sleekitwan it is true that it has an eq, but it is not activated here. That tiny red light is the preamp, and the next one is the eq, which is off (when 'crunched' he activated distortion, preamp, and delay).
I've always said it and I'll say it again, sound is subjective what's right for one is wrong for another. Both these products are great but aimed at two different guitarists and two different budgets. So which ones best? easy the one that's best for you, this vs that never works for me it just gets everyone arguing and trying to justify why one is better than another.
zoom is fine economic compromise, it sounds very overtonic and dynamic, especially w/gain - very acceptable for small/mid scene (club, cafe), good for combo ensemble, but boss cuts even a solid mix - it sounds noticeable solid and it`s space effects are more natural. It`s better to compare pedals at mix(backing tr)
i don't understand something. on my very simple but effective digitech RP55 i can easily switch between 40 user made and 40 preinstalled presets just by holding on to one of two buttons. i don't see anything like this here. how many presets can these guys memorise?
the Zoom G3X is a great pedal but the GT 10 Hands down sounds better if i had to choose it would be the GT 10 I'm a Boss Man! I have the GT 5, the ME 80, and am looking to find a GT 3,
Great playing shame youtube sound is so compressed both sound good to me, it's your playing that shines . I think your playing would be top even on a bargain basement amp , nice work ;)
in this vid, u are using tele/strat with single coil pu right? direct recording? i dont know, but for guitar with single coil pu, boss gt 10 sounds thicker than the zoom g3x, both in clean and distortion.
You better go with TONELAB. the sound of it is thin like zoom boss gt, digitech, BUT tonelab has tonal character of analog. though my clear choice is ampsim softwares.
I can't understand when people says that Zoom sounds more "natural", it's absolutelly crapy shit, mid-scooped sound that don't mixes right in a gig. I dont like digital effects too much, but Boss definitely sounds better, more dynamic sound and best attack response when playing. It's not just about brands... these guys really know what they are doing!
Well zoom sound more natural, but with the boss you have midi control, 8 assignable expression control, a send return loop, more assignables switch, double chain of effect... The boss is very cool if you mix it with a dry analog sound .. ... I want the zoom to be midi controlable.. Maybe possible with a usb host but i'm not sure...
just lower treble and maybe presence with your zoom, and there you have your "fuller". with the GT-10, however, you can't boost the highs, because they're not there to start with... or sound really nasty. But I agree: the Boss didn't sound bad at all here (except for the polyphonic confusion in crunch).
I have 3 processors. I have a regular g3, me25 as well as a pod. To be honestly, I find zoom and pod to have a much less digital sound than the boss. The boss is only good for some sounds, but honestly it is a hype. Infact, it's very expensive. When It comes to my line 6, I think it's a little inconvenient to maneuver, besides, the pedal is a little tough in the sense it switches to another effect very easily. So using a wah wah is a challenge. But my little zoom, the cheapest is the best. I like the looper besides, it's all divided onto three different displays. So making patches is a Hundred times easier. Just an opinion for the buyers though, I think zoom is lovely.
+Leuken Hopper After listening to a ton of clips of everything from line 6 to boss to even audio fractal's ax8 and yamaha's thr10 and blackstar's id amps, the zoom g3x sounded the best to me for everything under $500. It's pretty crazy that it's also the cheapest. This video got me to pull the trigger on one today.
I had a Boss ME 10 over 10 years ago, one day out of the blue it just starting malfunctioning, it was stuck on one patch and went out of tune, to get it fixed ,I would have had to send it back to boss and pay almost what I bought it for, haven' t bought anything Boss since then, but I've had 2 Zoom boxes , my first one was the 9000s and now I use a G2.1 Nu, I like Zoom products
Good comparison demo! Nice playing! ...and you selected a fair range of style to represent these different basic flavors. I know this is not a contest and my opinion means little, however, I notice that the Boss sounds like it missing dynamics... too compressed. The Zoom seems more like a real amp in both tone and dynamics. It also seemed to have less noise. Thank you! This is very helpful!
Gracias y saludos
The zoom can be set to sound much better than that. Plus the fact it's A HELL of a lot cheaper than the Boss. I personally don't give a shit about people saying the Boss is better for gigging. If you're a serious gigging musician, you wouldn't be bringing a digital multi FX unit in the first place. You'd be using analog stomp boxes. And if you do break your multi fx unit during a gig then you're an idiot. What do you use to press on the buttons? A jackhammer??? Give me a break lol.
The Boss got a more bright sound than the zoom, but the zoom is more cheap and have an awesome ways to transform the sound xd it all depends on what sound do you want, a more "crunch" or a more "bright" sound
Boss admittedly sounds better. I think the zoom ms100bt makes a great little multifx stomp though. On the other hand I own two of these GT10 and one GT10B...
I would much rather have the Vox Tonelab EX over either of these pedals, but I don't think Vox makes them anymore, because you can't find them anywhere and if you can they're $300.
why the hell you never attemp with heavy metal effects...??? when one buys some of this devices you usually buy it to get distorted , most of sounds are clean and that is not so good . I am thinking about buying a boss me-100 and I want to know if it is good on heavy metal area or what is the best...???
I believe you are a strat lover judging by most vids i hear the same strat sound. are you using an american fender stratocaster? or something like that? if so, then i think zoom wins. because if you are using a strat and you love using a strat, because if you can hear the difference between the two, the high gain sound of the zoom expresses the 'stratty feel' of your fender strat. on the other hand, it is like comparing a gibson or PRS with a fender.
BOSS GT10 Clean - 0:04
Zoom G3X Clean - 1:32
BOSS GT10 Cruch - 2:53
Zoom G3X Crunch - 4:23
BOSS GT10 Hi Gain - 5:44

Probably because the Zoom G3 is 32 bit. Mine smokes most I put it up against including a Boss GT-001.
The Zoom sounds a lot more ”analog” and natural, seems to favour playing dynamics more and seems to be more open across the range that the Boss, which seems kind of mid focused.

Lo ideal es tener la G5nx 👍

To do a fair demo you have to adjust the eq on both units while playing and set the volume to the same levels. Otherwise it is useless.

looking at your you tube page you have 0 activity and = videos which indicates to me you may work for or be associated with
Zoom, so i have to take your name and critic as possibly not neutral ...
Nothing's wrong with either, but the point of a comparison like this is to take two variables under the same factors/circumstances :)
IMO!
lulus panjulus Elsewhere, spanish guy says the GT-10 has awesome Equaliser, would explain difference and still be fair if it is part of the kit in-built I guess?
sleekitwan it is true that it has an eq, but it is not activated here.
Hi. I have noticed that on the back of the pedal board there are two buttons that say Balanced out. Someone knows what they are for. ??
which one is better Zoom g3x or Boss ME 25???
Hi, it says boss clean, but you are using a preamp, which one?? the same for crunch, what preamp? then you add a OD and delay, can I ask whick od?
very good! Could you share the settings used on these ZOOM G3x tones? I'm from Brazil.
i don't understand something. on my very simple but effective digitech RP55 i can easily switch between 40 user made and 40 preinstalled presets just by holding on to one of two buttons. i don't see anything like this here. how many presets can these guys memorise?
I really love my G3X !
the Zoom G3X is a great pedal but the GT 10 Hands down sounds better if i had to choose it would be the GT 10 I'm a Boss Man! I have the GT 5, the ME 80, and am looking to find a GT 3,
Igual exelente review!
..the best is how you playin' guitar! mantabs!!!
Great playing shame youtube sound is so compressed both sound good to me, it's your playing that shines . I think your playing would be top even on a bargain basement amp , nice work ;)
How to setup crunch sound of zoom g3
in this vid, u are using tele/strat with single coil pu right? direct recording? i dont know, but for guitar with single coil pu, boss gt 10 sounds thicker than the zoom g3x, both in clean and distortion.
Pleas how to make setting
Why is there so much effect intensity difference b/w them??
VOX TONELAB ST vs ZOOM G3X... which do you recommend?
zoom g3x
You better go with TONELAB. the sound of it is thin like zoom boss gt, digitech, BUT tonelab has tonal character of analog. though my clear choice is ampsim softwares.
Ali Saputra if you have the ear, you'll pick tonelab. but a sound engineer will picked ampsim softwares! not even AXE-FX can do, tonewise.
Nice video. Btw isn't the first song The silent man from Dream Theater? :O
Maybe possible with a usb host but i'm not sure...
i need your help sir...can i use the g3x exs pedal as a volume control for any effects..really dont know how to set it up..just a newbie sir..
Yes you can, press the "total" button and then select the ctrl pedal page or something and you can select what the expression pedal does very precise.
What guitar where you playing. Thanks
This dude has loads of killer chops in store ^-6
I have Zoom G3X Boss GT1 and Boss GT100 . The sound of Boss largest Winnnn.
fico com g3x, n é a toa que é a minha. Indico! pedalaria versátil!
i like zoom
THE ONE WHO DEMO THIS VIDEO IS MASTER IN GUITAR.
The first riff you done is "The Silent Man" by Dream Theater? ;)
Hm, I would like to get the patches for the Zoom...
just lower treble and maybe presence with your zoom, and there you have your "fuller". with the GT-10, however, you can't boost the highs, because they're not there to start with... or sound really nasty.
I am confused between g2.1Nu, g3 and boss me25.. which one should I buy? plz help.. I'm a rock and blues player
loa sony v7
I had a Boss ME 10 over 10 years ago, one day out of the blue it just starting malfunctioning, it was stuck on one patch and went out of tune, to get it fixed ,I would have had to send it back to boss and pay almost what I bought it for, haven' t bought anything Boss since then, but I've had 2 Zoom boxes , my first one was the 9000s and now I use a G2.1 Nu, I like Zoom products
anyone of you have any advice about wich is the best device for heavy metal sounds...???
metal zone
go with the GT ME 80
Ive had both, the zoom amps on this model are diabolical, id take the boss
Zoom G3X for me.
My own high gain preset on mine beats the living shit out of that BOSS GT 10..
is the ZOOM G3X's output set to Direct?
Yes it's transforms if it's not. Direct is terrible, nearly got rid of the pedal until I discovered that
correct boss sound is the best... zoom? i dont know... sound like calculator... it so very thin sound
Zoom sounds like thin waffer
Good comparison demo! Nice playing! ...and you selected a fair range of style to represent these different basic flavors.
I know this is not a contest and my opinion means little, however, I notice that the Boss sounds like it missing dynamics... too compressed. The Zoom seems more like a real amp in both tone and dynamics. It also seemed to have less noise.
Thank you! This is very helpful!
Hey m@n very nice demo with a bunch of cool licks
Gracias y saludos
Zooom is the best..... G5 and g3
I trade my GT 10 to zoom G3X... G3X is better, tones depends on EQ settings.
Qual é o crunch da g3x?
Boss admittedly sounds better. I think the zoom ms100bt makes a great little multifx stomp though. On the other hand I own two of these GT10 and one GT10B...
Patch boss Gt10?
Zoom G3 has better attack and presence but even more noise. Zoom G3x with a Boss DS-2 noise suppressor stompbox is the perfect equipement
Zoom sounds better for me.
+Rodrigo Mayer I own several Zoom products and they are fantastic.
+leegenix you'r all right men..., i do. but i think zoom is less in its Wahwah
Prab: I agree with you on that.Wah-Wah pedals are over used and there way too many in the market place already.
yess, zoom need to develop this less., so therefore we unnecessary to set addition wahWah.
+Rodrigo Mayer hehehehe
Zoom so Real sound, Boss so Digital sound
I would much rather have the Vox Tonelab EX over either of these pedals, but I don't think Vox makes them anymore, because you can't find them anywhere and if you can they're $300.
how to do distortion
why the hell you never attemp with heavy metal effects...??? when one buys some of this devices you usually buy it to get distorted , most of sounds are clean and that is not so good . I am thinking about buying a boss me-100 and I want to know if it is good on heavy metal area or what is the best...???
Muchos se burlaron de zoom. Pero ahora sus nuevas pedaleras están buenas
How many Master Volume of All F/X
Something is messed with the last zoom sound
I believe you are a strat lover judging by most vids i hear the same strat sound. are you using an american fender stratocaster? or something like that? if so, then i think zoom wins. because if you are using a strat and you love using a strat, because if you can hear the difference between the two, the high gain sound of the zoom expresses the 'stratty feel' of your fender strat. on the other hand, it is like comparing a gibson or PRS with a fender.
Can you give me those patches please?
Zoom sounds more natural, and better IMHO.
wow g3x got that crunch sound.. blues breaker sound
tones depend on EQ settings. I think its all meaningless unless both settings are identical.
Ably showing why Zoom is taking over the market. For both sound and price the Boss just can't keep up.
Finally, who win ?
Good thing about zoom is that you can use drums+looper at the same time. Dont know about the Boss?
Zoom is much better as for me... I will buy Zoom G5 soon )
BOSS is much Crisper and clearer
