A suggestion for consideration in your cube next time you need to replace a green card: Dryad Arbor. Lands are such a prominent theme and it's a creature you can fetch, then sac for natural order.
Somehow you might have been right, albeit accidentally it seems. Without the through the breach wheeling my deck would’ve been like a 6.5/10 instead of a 9/10 and I did end up 3-0ing
Something that has been amazing in my flash decks is gruff triplets, especially if you have any reanimation spell. Having 2 6/6's (with trample) that turn into 1 12/12 if one dies is honestly better than what you get from triplicate titan, and gruff reanimates better than titan imo. Only downside is you can't tinker for it.
In my mind, you and sandy have a fun Frenemies vibe. He watches your videos and mumbles under his breath as you deliberately send mixed signals to him using your knowledge of his playstyle for extra value.
Balance over palace jailer may put you in a better position for crucible p3, if you can bank on zuran orb wheeling in p1. You didn't end up running jailer, and its sort of a lands combo when you're not running green, but balance with academy and those talismans would've been one sweet deck!
Unfortunate about the record, but that's Magic. Well, you can show this to everyone in the server as proof that they don't need to worry about hating Tolarian Academy and that they can safely pass it to you from now on.
The deck was sick and had a really strong proactive plan, but it wasn't great at interacting with the opponent outside of draw punishers. I think if it had a couple decent two mana counters that would have patched up a lot of its potential weaknesses. It was that, and I do think your draws were under expectation and your opponent's draws in some of those games were sick.
Hey Mr.LSV. What do you think about prophet of Kruphix type of cards and effects for the cube? Would there be any cube cycle in which untap lands effects could be meaningful?
@@ToddJohnson534 well, 17 lands and 4 talismans/relic = more than half a deck that is solely mana production. I don't find it surprising, honestly, that variance would seem to strike especially keenly. Don't get me wrong, it was a very cool deck, it just does seem like it could have shaved a land or the Relic or something.
@@bricelory9534Yeah, as good as talismans are, I wonder if they are actually all that good in multiples. If you want to run 4 talismans, you can realistically only cut one, maybe two lands at the most for them, which still leaves you with a deck that has more mana sources than you'd typically want. The ceiling on them is incredibly high, especially with Academy, but the floor is pretty low. Drawing a talisman when you're already flooding out is very rough.
Fantastic content as always. I'm curious if you have considered replaying some of these "should have done better decks" a 2023 cube celebration I suppose.
It's best draws were certainly very strong, but it was also 60% cards that produce mana, so it was also going to flood out some of the time. I think going 1-2 is probably a little below expectation, though.
It's so wacky to me that when they were making Lord of the Rings, they decided that the best archer card should be Orcish Bowmasters and not one of the multiple Legolas cards. I mean, for that matter, Orcish Bowmasters is more powerful than the One Ring itself... I'm not even sure where they got the concept from; there are no "Orcish bow masters" in Tolkien; all the best archers are Elves or Men.
LSV, you ever think about doing some collaborative drafts with other players for the youtube? I always enjoyed watching the streams when you were drafting with other players.
I think the decks weakness was having too many mana cards. 16 land, 2 moxes, 1 ritual, 1 candlebra, 4 talismans, 1 relic. 25/40 cards were purely mana, not too surprising to run into bad draws.
I think the other way of looking at it is that LSV probably could have done with more high impact cards or cantrips to mitigate the amount of air in his deck.
You know what's a cool card that's hard to use properly, but can lead to tons of unique, memorable plays? Stifle. It's the perfect card for the LSV cube, probably replacing Arcane Denial.
We need vintage cube on Arena. Magic's best format shouldn't be it's best kept secret. Learning curve is too high with such high stakes on MTGO. I timed out multiple times a few seasons ago because it took me 30 seconds of clock a turn to just curve out. -$10, yayy :/
To me it feels like the problem with this deck was too many mana sources. You were begging for action most games, but with roughly 24 cards that just produce mana in your deck, you seemed like you had a decent odds of missing.
have ya ever thought of joining a discord with your team to discuss picking strategy? if both teams could do it would be fair, add a bit of time to the picks and would add another element of the team draft
It might sound like an ok idea at first, but then you realize that everyone has perfect information about every single players deck/picked cards except for enemy 1st picks. the draft would be a lot less fun for everyone
@@jeffreyculbert2093 Hence my maybe type 2 comment that clearly you didn't understand. The mirage lands were first and could always grab duals in 1 or 1.5.
“I don’t have to be this artifact heavy.”
Blink twice if you’re being held against your will.
Ah yes, the two forms of Duress.
"Ha! That Duress did NOTHING!"
"Agh! That Duress got me GOOD!"
You and Caleb D have made this my favorite "season" of cube content ever. Quality and quantity have maxed out, and I am hooked.
LSV and Caleb rattling off a prime LeBron vs Curry for nerds year before our very eyes ❤
They need to get Caleb on he server
walking ballista for 15 is crazy lol. nice as always lsv.
The Luis “I’m gonna cut all these cards I swear” cube
Julie is obviously just living her best life.
❤ The daily uploads, especially when it's the best format in magic. cube is just the best

The gray border of Orcish Bowmasters always makes my brain initially think its an artefact.
That's part of why I like the borderless version in my paper cube. Very black feeling art, though not a bow in sight for some reason.
It also looks a lot like the Troll at a glance.
The pick I most disagreed with was Walking Ballista over Through the Breach or Karn, and I'd just like to state for the record that I was wrong.
Somehow you might have been right, albeit accidentally it seems.
Without the through the breach wheeling my deck would’ve been like a 6.5/10 instead of a 9/10 and I did end up 3-0ing
I need someone to look at me the way lsv looks at tolarian academy
Watching this 5 months late. Crazy to see LSV pass Bombardiers. We have learned so much about that card since then.
Once again I can rely on LSV to brighten up my day with another epic video. Thank you.
Sacrificing City of Traitors to Lotus Field is cute.

If I had a dollar for every time I heard LSV say "Jeskai Control" :)
"This looks like a Jeskai Control deck" weeeellll the thumbnail said otherwise xD
Yeah... two of his teammates were on jeskai control lmao
I can just see the post-draft discussion of the opponents. DAMMIT WHO PASSED LUIS THE ACADEMY??
Game 1 is the perfect example of the Wurm being mightier than the Swords.

Awesome deck! What it is missing is consistency. Cantrips/tutors would have done wonders.
Agreed, especially given how mana-heavy the deck was.
LSV is living proof that screw beats flood 😂
Pack 3 was just chefs kiss ❤❤

I think the lack of card selection was a bigger problem: The deck was effectively 60% mana sources and LSV basically lost two game threes to flood.
Thanks LSV. Appreciate the content
DO you have your list on cubecobra?

First round op wheel of time fan! Love to see it
“As much as I hate Coalition Relic”
My goodness, times have changed
Is there a place online where we can view your cube list? (Cube Cobra, etc.? There are old versions of your list there, but not the current one.)
Rad Thumbnail props. I wish to see you draft BW i have never seen you draft Ozolov
Any of the Sinvicta Mosh Pit in here? I take my daily dose of LSV and Eden every day, and so far it’s been the best year ever.
did y'all win or was it a draw? 👀
Draw sadly
The big flaw with many Talismans is the risk of flooding out, I have noticed.
Can't count how many times Luis has said, "Need to draw something good here" right before ripping a talisman.
(Not that I think there's a takeaway from that other than variance, but it sticks with you when it happens.)

Jules on the war path 😅
Wait, is he just going to play a lethal Ballista?
I dislike Enlightened Tutor as much as the next guy, but even I would have taken it over another talisman @ 17:55.

fetches never had to just get basics. Maybe in type 2 but duals were always available.
Not the case at all… the shocklands came after the original fetches. When fetches were first printed they could only grab duals in Vintage/legacy.
