  • The Plymouth Road Runner lives on as a well kept secret. Let the peasants have their Mustangs and their Camaros, and let those with more unique American classics thrive. Watch in [4K]!!

    The Plymouth Road Runner is, in my opinion, a forgotten legend. Hailing from Plymouth, an arm of Chrysler, the All-V8-All-The-Time muscle car went through several generations, this being the second. Aside from its superstar SuperBird cousin, the Road Runner eats tires (as the owner Chuck all too kindly demonstrated). Does anyone read these? If you're this far down, leave a comment with the phrase peanut butter for a prize. The prize is probably just a dumb joke back about jelly. 7.2L seems excessive for engine displacement but damn does it sound good.

    My favorite car. I've built and sold a few. I have one now. I love my car.... You nailed it though, when you go to a show there's a couple dozen Mustangs at least and half that again in Camaros but when you're the one guy with the Road Runner... You're the rock star.

    In my opinion, if you have a 440 six pack in a 71-72 roadrunner, the air grabber hood is the way to go. Awesome car man!

    Well done, young man. It's good to see some interest and respect for our older hot rods in the youthful folks.

    Awesome video! There's not enough content on these cars. I can't wait to get my hands on a good roadrunner and turn it into a GTX project like the one from Fate of the Furious. I Love that look and made me remember why this is my favorite old school muscle. Thank You! I was Born in 96, my first car was and is still my C5 corvette.

      Thank you!! I'm so glad you dig the video, this car was stupid fun to drive around. A C5 Vette is a hell of a first car, I'd have wrapped it around a poll by now lmao. And absolutely! Join the millennial crew keeping car culture alive

      Checkpoint Hahah yeah I wish it was a manual but I got it for a steal. $9k cash and was in good condition. I couldn't pass it up. Best in my area that I've checked out. The auto is fast but i can't wait to trade up for a C7! ❤️

    • @CheckpointReached
      @CheckpointReached  6 років тому +1

      Duuuude C7 is the right call. And as much as I like rowing gears, I can't hate on an auto too much. Especially with a deal like that. Does she still manage to do burnouts alright??

    • @614XJ
      @614XJ 6 років тому +1

      Checkpoint Still manage to like it's no ones business!! I just bought super sport cup 2s and gotta replace them.. $1200 for all 4 tires lol and I drive it everyday and drive it like it's supposed to be. Especially with the magnaflow performance exhaust no muffles or resonators. It's loud, can't wait for long tube headers and a cam to wake him up a little more and get rid of my cats ;p

    • @CheckpointReached
      @CheckpointReached  6 років тому +1

      Hey! For some reason UA-cam flagged your comment lol, just seeing it now. Dude an LS with that exhaust setup must piss your neighbors off. Good for you for driving the nuts off it! lol

    I HAD to subscribe! You are amazing, I was around in 1972 and remember these Roadrunners well. I even worked in the factory that built the other Mopar muscle cars, the Plymouth Barracudas ('Cudas) and Dodge Challengers, some with the Hemi engines, during this period, so I know what I'm talking about. I am impressed with your factual knowledge and understanding of the essence and intent of these cars, something lacking in so many of the 'opinion" based car revews on you tube. Your presentation style, camera work and video editing are also outstanding and highly watchable. Keep up the good work and I look forward to seeing more of it!

    Hey there nice to see you again lol. Is that you burning out the car alittle bit? Brakes are horrible in those days lol. Terrible handling and brakes just for driving straight lol. All these HOT-RODS is what started it for TODAY S CAMARO MUSTANG CHALLENGER AND SO ON. If it wasn’t for these yesterday cars there be no 455 hp ss or 460 hp gt or 707 hp HC. AWESOME VIDEO MAN🤗

      You know, it's funny that you mention this. The problem isn't so much the amount of light coming in to the camera (I can easily lower the iso to be in good shape) but it's how much the light changes depending on where I drive, or if the clouds part. The auto iso on my camera will generally exposed for the ~majority~ of the frame, which is usually the background of wherever I'm driving through. So, I have to expose for wherever I'm parked (and whatever the weather is at the time) and hope for the best as I go. You're right though, something has to be done for the in car stuff. Tough when you're usually running as a one man band ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

    • @JoeCnNd
      @JoeCnNd 5 років тому

      Not sure how much you'd want a new camera but I've seen test of the gx7 mkii and it has great auto exposure.

      $1,000,000 in 2019 money for rights to Road Runner name. Inflation almost 20 to 1 since end of gold standard. Big muscle then. $3,000. Doge Demon now $60,000 That would Bye a lot of Peanut butter. Lol

    If that engine came with the car it would be valued in the six figure range. Just look at the left engine block and if it shows late 1971 you then need to check the ID tag in the engine compartment. Since only five 440+6 1972 model Plymouths came off the assembly line. With that said I am 99% certain that that engine was not original. Also the Ignition, distributor, valve covers, intake manifold, wheels, instrument panel, etc. are NOT original equipment on this Roadrunner.

    • @CheckpointReached
      @CheckpointReached  5 років тому

      Correct. I talk in the video about this car not coming with the 440 original, but that the owner ended up swapping one in from a previous year

    I like your style, kid but as an old fart and owner of Coronets and 'Cudas when I was a kid you have to know Chryslers are "Mopars" and the Mopar fans have NEVER been ignorant of Road Runners If you are on this planet you'd know the entire Fast and Hilarious franchise is PACKED with Mopars and easter eggs of future Mopars = but that's it, Road Runners will never fly under the radar. Too bad you didn't drive a real one before they were pigged out in '72 OR became that bloated fuselage style you drove that began in '71; general consensus was it was too big, heavy and now (compared to 68-70) just a gas eating grocery getter that got gapped by the same RR's only OLDER ones from '68-'70 B Bodies, so there's that. Those '71-72s were tanks - boats; the '68'-'70 B Bodies killed it though. Styling was better IMO the fat later ones though no doubt, just not fun fast driving. d:D 🚗

    Terrible chopped up editing and over-loud music, as well as not even half way through and already many repeated scenes.
    Nice car except that horrible instrument mess , why the xmas tree gauges? - surely this car had the Rallye dash?
