Honda engines from the 90s are some of the most emotional engines ever made. Yes, they are not Ferrari levels but you have to remember you can afford this and spend just about nothing on maintenance.
@@dexxed674Depends. If you've got a good healthy engine, best to refresh it as early as possible to avoid any potential issues. They do love burning oil and the VTEC solenoid seals do leak oil but not much besides that. Quite economical on fuel too, if you shift pre-VTEC.
"they are not Ferrari levels" - *actually they were*! At the time of the launch of the Honda engine from the 90s, it was hard to find a better engine. When it comes to power, when you count how much horsepower can be extracted from one liter of displacement, the Honda are really close Ferrari (remember that the Civic was created as a cheap car to get from point A to point B). Comparison: B16A: four cylinders, 1.6 liters 160 hp = 100 hp per liter Ferrari F355: V8, 3.5 liters 375 hp = 107 hp per liter They are also easy to tune - big turbo's, compressors, tune parts from other models etc. are like pizza toppings - almost everything fit's. When it comes to durability, Hondas are often used in all kinds of motorsports, from mountain racing, drag racing, track racing, to even professional wreck and off-road racing (yes off road). In car sales advertisements, most Civics have more than 200,000 kilometers and even around 300,000 (Poland). They are often chosen as the first car because they can endure poor treatment and have cheap spare parts. Rust is the only weak point ;P
@@lordzed83 this is facts, in my ek3 one extra person makes it noticeably slower. 4 people in the car at the same time and it struggles to get up to 40 mph
There's definitely something wrong with the tune, engine or a different gearbox, after 200km/h its slower than a stock b16, when he changes from 4th to 5th he's in the powerband of the cams and the engine just stops pulling completely, it feels like there's low compression, also why change the vtec engagement point from 5600rpm to 6000rpm, I know that that is the b16b engagement point but in this car it would be better stock specificaly for b roads. There's videos of stock b16a2 doing a lot faster time on draggy without much of an elevation change. The owner clearly has put a lot of money and effort into the car and it's really nice in general but I think he needs a rebuild with some higher compression pistons and valves to really put it up a notch.
@@glennej9 Fair enough it was just an observation as I said before it's a really nice build and it sounds really good, hopefully in the future you can make it even faster.

Gearing Ratio's is definitely the best upgrade you can give one of these honda's. If I ever have to rebuild my ASU5 gearbox im putting in some DC5 gears. Because that is definitely the worst part about my CM2.
Needs the s4c type r gearbox, it geared beautifully for staying in the powerband. I bet you're running into heat soak from that intake as well. I have the type r, car felt quick N/A 185 whp on the dyno. I I know it's nostalgic to whip around in a stock B series, but their inability to keep up with modern sports cars was enough to push me to turbo it after one season. Reliability wise, these motors can take 8-10 psi bone stock for years with the right supporting mods. Very clean build I love the attention to detail
Everyone should own or drive an old school DOHC VTEC. I had the Euro Civic Vti. The MB6 with the B18C4 (170bhp) in a Rover body. Best £800 I ever spent. like it Max. I like it. That engine bay looks so good. I like it. I do, I like it. It's good. It's a real clean example, Max. I just don't like those lexus style rear lights.
Unfortunately, the engine has a very steep power curve. 200hp...yes but at 9k. At 7k only 160hp. That's why not much happens in 5th gear. For a significantly faster 100-200 time, the owner should set the limiter higher to reach 200kmh in 4th gear.
In this case I think is literally just lack of compression, a stock healthy b16a2 can go from 200 to 230 (redline) a lot quicker than this car, there's videos here on UA-camr where you can clearly see that, the vtec engagement in this car is also changed from 5600rpm to 6000rpm, there's is no good reason for this change even with the skunk 2 cams, imo this engine needs a rebulid or a better tune because it doesn't look like 200 hp and on the top end is actually slower than stock.
@@garra3504 I had stock gearing same as this in a 94 Sir sedan, would happily change into 5th at 190 & pull through to 230kph with less power than this one quoted at, also heavier as it was a full trim 4 door EG9 with subs in the boot, probably 1200kgs.
