    Ive worked on a few similar dell laptops, and they are very durable, well built machines. I have a few that have a nice magnesium bottom cover. I also have a couple from similar era that you have to completely disassemble to change the cmos battery, which really sucks, but other than that they are very nice to work on, easy to change CPU/RAM/Primary storage/wifi/...

    Hi Sorin, by removing the shorted capacitor the issue is fixed but wouldn't you replace the capacitor with another one to "properly fix" the fault? Which brings me to my next question: How can you identify the capacitance of these tiny capacitors when they're shorted and you don't have a schematic? Thanks for the video, great as always!

    Dell laptop are pretty solid, got one from 10 years ago, it has a lot of screw to disassemble it completely. And it's running fine, with 8GB ram and SSD. Unless you do gaming or run virtual machines no need for more. On the other end i have an asus vivo from 5 years ago with broken hinges, bug on super io (i need to disconnect and reconnect internal battery for it to power on) and sound is broken. I'm using the Dell, the asus one is only there to store my eth wallet.

    Nice job sir, contrary to a Dell latitude e6510 I got here, it has this fault.
    1, If the battery is in it, and I plug the charger in it, the charger light goes off. And the system won't charge but will definitely come on as long as the battery is still connected.
    2, it can not be use when plugged and battery is in it the same time. i.e. If the system is on and the battery is low, and I plug the charger in, it goes off completely.
    3, It powers on only if either of the battery is plugged in or the charger is plugged in without the battery.
    4, it doesn't charge at all (I use other battery-compatible system to charge the battery anytime it's low.
    Would love to get your response on it.

    This is so great. Love it. very educational
    I didn't get what was the problem with the capacitor? Obviously it is toasted, but does that mean it has a short circuit? can we just remove a piece like this and expect the laptop to operate as usual? In other words, why this capacitor was there in the first place if its removal doesn't affect the functioning of the laptop?

    I keep asking the same question: Is it necesary to replace that capacitor or you can leave it without it?

    • @09danstart
      @09danstart 2 роки тому

      best to leave it out so it carnt short again

    • @ralphj4012
      @ralphj4012 2 роки тому +9

      Good practice is to replace the capacitor. Whether it is a singe capacitor or multiple capacitors in parallel their function is to suppress noise / spikes / surges and thereby protect other components, which, if they fail, can do more, expensive damage. Cleaning clogged fans is also good practice.

    Bought a similar laptop for a customer as these are the older Dell business pro grade versions & it's still running Win10 with a Samsung SSD upgrade as customer didn't want to upgrade it.
    Pity all laptop chargers don't have a power light ring like Dell has.

    When injecting 19v directly to mosfet, you do on drain at high side mosfet? Isn't safer to do on power connector at big shunt resistor,because I saw on video once you put by mistake on low side fet
    And Isn't is more safer to inject 1v. If you put 19v to low side drain it goes directly to inductor or mcu
