3:58 I think the first most important thing for the exposure is how to read the exposure on the X-H2s. Since there is no FALSE Color or EL Zone in this camera you have to know where the camera is reading exactly in the frame for exposure; because a +0.3 or +1 with the PHOTOMETRY set to MULTI is not at all the same if it's set on SPOT or CENTER WEIGHTED. I will post a video on the subject very soon on my UA-cam channel, Peace.
20:02 Boom! This was the best part. Some say to put the color space transformation node at the end but often they don't have an explanation to it. It's also precious to see few folks like you guys using Fuji's F-Log 2 (or 1) with Davinci Resolve, thank you for this great reference point!
Dang! Super dense information here! Got really heavy and useful at the end. Definitely going to have to watch again and so many things to try out! Thank you both!
On the XT5 they also put F-Log2. It’s native ISO is at 1000 for the XT5. Not sure why they didn’t put 1000 like on the T5 for the XH2S. Either way looks sooo good 🔥
Pretty sure you can edit shadow/highlight tone settings in video mode since XT2. You make a great point though that with XH2S the film simulations are now baked in 4:2:2 which should increase their usability. Interested in seeing further test results of this. I usually hate baked-in profiles and FLog is certainly the way to go in general but for fast turnaround projects Eterna and Classic Chrome do have a great look. As for sharpness, I agree that SOOC the Fuji image looks way too sharp, interesting to hear you find it still too sharp even with sharpness & NR down at max levels (-4 ?). Wish Fuji could allow further fine tuning, oversharp footage ruins the cinematic look imo. Overall great conversation, love these kinds of interactions.
Man that Classic chrome definitely looks so amazing. Ive never wanted a camera based off a particular type of creative look it can shoot. I understand it's called a "film simulation" but let's face it, they are literally just creative looks.
I personally enjoy long format content. I tend to rewatch the video a couple more times vs videos below 5 mins. Especially when there is a tutorial in the video, too
Learned alot, great video. I'm new with shooting flog and node based editing in davinci. I've got a long way ot go, but this provided a great foundation of how to think about the post process early on by understanding the Log format and how to work with it better.
This was great.. would love to see a few more F-Log2 tutorials… there’s literally none. I think you can use the Fuji Log LUT converters and load them into Resolve in certain folders to allow the app access to them showing up in more than one place in the app… theres some stuff like that. His suggestion to use the converter in middle is a magic trick thanks for that … keeping the high and lows in range with that ideas is awesome.
I'm sure the answer to this question is what I think it is, but if I'm using a light meter with flog2, I'd set it to 1250, right? I'm using an old Sekonic. I'm coming from having shot on film the past 20 years. I just got the X-HS2 last week, so this is all new to me and I want to make sure I'm exposing correctly for flog2. Thank you!
Nice! Keep them xh2s content coming :) Honestly, could have been longer! More talk on video formats, adapters, davinci etc...super interesting so I wouldn't worry about it being too long. Worst case make it in multiple parts. Cheers
Noise reduction: I've heard recommendations to put it first or last. Your arguement makes sense: you have a cleaner image to e.g. apply the color picker to. It can also be faster because it can cache the first node output as it is not affected by other tunings. For the opposite advice: With noise reduction you effectively remove information from the image for the cleaner look. They argue that they want to be able to tune that until the last step...
Loved the interview! I'm starting to learn Davinci and just picked up the X-H2s so this came at the perfect time.Picked up Evan's F-Log conversion LUTs and it really changed the game for me. They're such as solid base to work off of whether I'm working with the X-T3's F-Log or F-Log2
Good stuff brother I sold my Z Cam E2 got an Fuji xH2s, in May Im going get the Lumix s5 IIx. Looking forward to the full frame look 🤤 I'm going keep this xH2s though this thing is beautiful
Super interesting stuff, especially the chapter about node structure on Resolve toward the end. The NR first and conversion lut placement makes so much sense now. Gonna get my hands on a xh2s in January/February and these kinds of videos make me so eager to do so. The last camera I had was an a7sii and often the grading part was pretty disappointing with the 8 bits 4:2:0 files. I feel like you had to be a really good colourist to get nice stuff out of it (I was not lol). 10 bits ProRes must be so much more fun. Also is it me or your AF is trying to focus on your glasses reflection 😅?
While I agree shooting over might not make sense when there are a lot of highlights in the scene that doesn’t mean it fits every situation. Let’s say we have a well balanced scene where there are no highlights and nothing goes about 90% reflectance or 2.3 stops over middle gray. In those situations shooting base exposure you are kind of wasting three more cleaner stops at the top that could be used. This is why the BMD pocket cameras setup ISO the way they did. They are essentially shooting over/under at different ISO levels. Sony also created Cine EI for the same reason. To remap the stops where they are needed. The point of shooting over isn’t just to clip but if there are no highlight values then the stops can be better used in the shadows to capture more detail. If something will clip well then yes perhaps one shouldn’t shoot over. Shooting over is for when nothing will be clipped or if the clipped values do not matter. For example shooting against a window is going to be clipped even with +6 stops over middle gray. If one is shooting in a high contrast environment then yes I agree. The point however is that log should be flexible like if is on the BMD cameras. You choose how the stops should be used per shot. It’s not a one size fits all thing.
@@CineDailies honestly dude. I’m testing out the xh2s for MobileSyrup right now and it’s a strange contrast to the xs10. But all I want now is an xs20 lmao

@@CineDailies Yes, it's internal recording 4:2:0. With just a basic grade the sky banding is so strong unfortunately. Even if you just lower the highlights a bit you can clearly see the different color lines in the sky.

Do you know if using the 18-35 when using the fringer will definitely retain video AF?
I have no idea.
That was great to listen to. I actually bout Evan's lut packs cuz i dont know shit about color grading... So cheers for that.
Awesome Im glad you enjoyed it!
Do you think the jump from xt3 to Xh2s is worth it for realestate and weddings?
Yes
@@CineDailiesisnt full frame still abit better? for example in realestate i need to change lenses for wide and close ups but for a full frame i wont need to, i cant find a zoom lens on fuji that goes from 10mm to 30mm
@@edi18912 better is subjective to the job. Pick the tool that best for the job.
On my X-H2, with F-Log2, the ISO goes down to 1000. Am I missing something? Or is the base ISO really different between the H2 and the H2S?
The base ISOs are different
@@CineDailies thanks! Just getting into video and thought maybe I was overlooking something.
I know this video is more about F-LOG but I have a serious question... I shoot wedding videos... I am thinking about buying the XH2s... I really want to know if the AF-C is improved in video from the XT4...
We use the XT4 for weddings as our main camera and we love it. Obviously it comes down to preference but check out our work to see.
@@krokisco I bought the xh2s 4 months ago :) I am loving it! BTW Nice work with your films!
@@BuddyG thank you! We’re in the same Mastermind class btw!
Serr and Mark Bone would be great
Why you ask? One very creative Fuji EX4 user, film guy and XH2S chap, tons of overlap and content ideas from interviews to create your own mini movie masterpiece with Fuji. Mark Bone on Sony cameras, his channel and doc school. So, you hit the funi and Sony users, budding film makers and Sony, documentary makers. Both are great at storytelling too
Good content
Thank you
Geat video!
Thanks for watching!
