My grandfather fought in wwii and Korea. We all know how military men of that generation were about shaving. I never saw a whisker on his face a day he was alive and all I ever saw him shave with was blue single blade disposable razors. It always baffled me. No idea what he used before disposable razors were invented.
I use Gillette aloe shaving gel for sensitive skin. Has a great smell and really softens the hairs up. You palm the gel then take a bit as gel with your other hand and start rubbing it into your face. It lathers up great and your hands don’t get all covered in foam. I use with my Gillette proglide and it gives a great shave.
I've not used a disposable razor in years. That said, when my neice, Sarah, was about, 3 she found the Bic disposable I left behind after a visit. My mom called to tell me that Sarah wanted me to come back to get it--I was 5 hours away. BTW Sarah is 20 now and probably wouldnt' care what I leave behind.
Great vid. I act this way when I explain using a safety over buying that cartridge crap from the store, you really save a bunch when you switch. But my question is, were there no "Bic Sensitives"? My grandfather shaves with it and it gives him a close shave.
I use Nivea shave gel, and I put a lil bit on my hand and then rub it onto my face, i dont recommend lathering it into your hands because you have to wash it straight off and doesn't lather that well
My first Safety razor I got was for a dollar form dollar tree. I still have it and it sits right next to my 1964 Gillette super speed. Even for a Dollar it was a better shave then the cheap throw away razors I used to use
My granny called HEB "Heebs". Always thought it was funny and adorable. I wish we'd get HEB in North Texas already. Hadn't been in one for years until my gf and I went to Austin in August 2019. Much better than the grocery chains we have here. I loved Austin too. Anyway, I shaved this way (with a disposable and Edge gel) for like 13+ years until I discovered that safety razors were a thing while looking at cartridge razors. I STILL have a ton of Edge gel that I'm trying to use up - cursing myself for bulk buying the stuff. I use it when my skin gets too dried out from using soaps. Well that was a random stream of consciousness comment, but oh well...
I once got stranded on a day business trip and due to a bad storm no planes were flying. I checked into a hotel with no bathroom / shaving kit. They brought me up a little kit with tooth brush, minature tooth paste, disposable razor and minature shave cream. All worked just fine. Not great but a god send at the time.
Great budget shave, the lion de razor i used last week costs about 1,5 dollar's and that can be re used so its also quite cheap. I went back to my aristocrat, and that certainly isnt a budget razor lol. Some budget shaving soaps like arko shave sticks work out super cheap too, and they're way way way better than gels and foams, so a budget traditional de shave is definitely possible.
I think is more like saving means than don’t need expensive to shave i think is more like what make you feel happy and comfort and easy to shave don’t need to expect a lot of money .
Ah the days when you you could cough and not have yourself and others immediately think covid....great video ! Makes me want to go try this out just for fun ! I quit the cartridge razors out of pure frustration of them getting clogged. So glad I went to the safety razor, I actually look forward to shaving every day. I like spending money on shavers accoutrements.
Tesco do Essentials razors, 5 single blade disposables for 30p, or 37 cents if you will. Shave foam, Aldi, equivalent 80 cents. Aftershave, don't know of any brands but the £1 shop will have some, so 1.37 cents for that. Our supermarket value brand prices have risen significantly in the past 10 years though, they're much closer to the price of the supposed quality own brands now. But a decade ago, you could get a pack of 5 razors for a ridiculously low price. Seriously, like 6 cents. Not kidding. Shave foam, probably about 30 cents. Cheap aftershave has stuck at the £1 price point for many years though, although that's becoming increasingly scarce. But you can get it, if you look hard enough.
My son bought me a double edge safety razor. I finally started shaving with it and now I'm hooked. I tried years ago and it was probably Wilkson Sword and I never took to it. Now, I bought the Parker 99R and it is a big improvement on the one my son bought even though that gave me a good shave. I feel a little more relaxed shaving with the Parker. I have used feather blades which are good but I've been very impressed with the Derby blades and its price point is insane at 13.5 cents Canada which is probably less than ten cents US per blade.
@@Lemurquito which one do you find better near-crippling debt(the usa) or a decent government that can still improve even though it's been around for 800 years( britain)

was moving the other day and had to crush at my pops place; he still shaves really low budget, plastic disposable razors included. since i left my safety razor in another suitcase i had to work with what i had at the time and it was really fun! i would definitely do it again just for the sake of changing something and spicing things up a little bit:))
I used edge shave gel for the longest time before I switched to de. One tip is to apply just like barbasol so you get it all around the hairs. But gels do gum up razors a lot more than barbasol/hand made lathers
You should give the Dollar Tree Store DE razor another try….they have slightly improved their razor and blades since you did your video on this product and I have been using the same razor for several months now with excellent results even though I am using different blades once in awhile but the original blades work good.
So.. Personna (which isn't bad) in the TRAC 2 style.....I'd prefer that over the Gillette Sensor 2's(because the blades are garbage) ....But I'd get the Nivea Men Gel and aftershave balm. Still love the sensor Excel...Which I got lucky with carts because 5$ per a 10 pack in the clearance isle. I think the "feather" weight throws people off. AS for Applied the Gel, I use the one hand method, spread some on my finger tips, one swipe on each cheek, then circle motion on the neck, then the rest of the face. For me it works every time, nice vid as usual!
The Dollar Tree sells a tto razor with 5 blades for $1, it's what actually got me into de shaving. Got it for shits and giggles and ended up really liking it. Glad I discovered it. Those throw away 2 blade razors tear my face up bad. Well both times they did but its beem a while. Have a bunch of leftovers that were my dads sitting in the pack in the bathroom closest.
I’m fairly new to wet shaving and really learn a lot from your videos. P.S. More live videos of you and the band! That was great man! Too bad you don’t live closer to SC! Would love to work with you sometime. Have a good one!
I love your content, when I used to use those cheap throwaways before I knew better, I only used each razor twice then threw it away. If I used it more than that it would nick the heck out of my face.
I have disposable Gillett razor and want to throw away , but I give a chance and shave and still satisfied . It all depends on your skin and diameter of your beard shaft . Now more than 9 times I shaved and still sharp.
I am the biggest cheapskate around, and i find that the Assured 5 blade 3 pack razors with the green handles at Dollar Tree are the best i could find right now. Dollar Tree once sold Noxema razors which were great too. I mostly buy foam creams like Barbasol because i like the lathers. The gels do not appeal to me. One piece of advise i can give with cheap razors is some makes are hard to clean, and i have to smack them against the sink to get the hairs out. Its because the gap between the last blade, and the frame of the razor is too narrow. I am now transitioning to a safety razor because i feel like in the long run they are a better value.
I use the assured green aftershave. For a dollar it lasts a couple months. Old spice is about as expensive as I go for aftershaves, I think it’s about 13 cnd.
Looks like a fun experiment, I am always looking at HEB and hope one day they will start selling wet shaving gear. For example, Proraso and Feather blades.
I just found this channel and im 13 and I just started shaving yesterday cause yesterday was my 13th birthday. I use Gillette shaving cream and Stetson after shave and Gillette razors. Keep up the good work!!
Cheap DE 15.00 Cake of soap 1.29 x 3 =3.87 brush 5.00 100 DE blades 7.00 total 25.87 = 1 year of shaving. .07 per day every year after that half price DE with last for 10 years. Now that's cheap but good. Brave Man using those high quality items!
If you want a cheap preshave use LectricShave before applying your soap. Works really well for DE even though it’s meant as an electric shaver preshave. You can find it at almost any drug store or supermarket. It’s really helped my skin as far as dryness/irritation.
I shave this way on rare occasions, but currently I have no goo in a can. I do have some Aqua Velva, and one disposable razor. I also have some brushless creams.
Hah, sounds like some ingredients got mixed up on the production line at Hill Country Essentials ("Bob, I told you to clean the nacho topping residue off the machines before we make the shaving gel...") Hey, I think I remember the one-night stand video, something about how you could get away with one pass if you'd had a one-night stand and wanted to get out of the hotel room asap😁
Hey, thanks! I got those Feather (and Bic) blades today. I now have stock after being down to my last Feather blade. Yeah! Oh, can't forget the pinch of menthol crystals too. Again, thanks.
Interesting video. I got my vintage tech for $6.00, use astra sp blades at least 5x each at 10 cents/ blade, proraso cream $9.00 that outlasts 10 or so cans of gel. I should work out my cost/shave. I do really like the idea you're getting across.
BOTBarrel price will give you botb experience. however, for just a tad more, one is in range of Nivea/Aveeno, and ANY razor will be an upgrade. Those in the vid are traveling salesman /hotel quick shave products, and they do serve a purpose
I might surprise you but in my country you can get a disposable razor of Gillette for shaving for like 0.20$ and a shaving cream for just 0.50$. Their is a cheap version of safety razor too that is cheaper then a plastic disposal razor and de razor blade for 5 cents. Aftershaves are expensive though
I swear the BIC ones are at a different angle, as I always manage to slice my face up with them. But that's all I knew existed when I started shaving, borrowed my Dad's who always buys the cheapest stuff he can find.
Actually, for the money, Aqua Velva is the best aftershave. Independent studies have determined that it cools razor burn, has a nice scent, and last a long time.
I use Gillette Fusion Pro Glide. Disposable razors never did it for me. And is it me, Or has Barbasol changed their product? Meaning the scream isn't as thick and rich as it used to be.
I’m looking into that. I found the first squirts from a new can aren’t as rich, but the later ones are. Probably the old ‘contents may have settled in shipment.’
You seem to collect safety razors like I collect fountain pens. I never use those cheap plastic razors, tried them once; never again afterwards. I have my Gillette Proglide , Harry ( gift from my daughter ) and Philco 1 blade. I keep mulling buying a safety razor ( but sure I wouldn't use it but once ) to mate it with my fountain pens and 3 watches. I like your channel though.
Those orange BIC razors are just pure nasty, you'd draw less blood if you shaved with a chainsaw!

Great vid. I act this way when I explain using a safety over buying that cartridge crap from the store, you really save a bunch when you switch. But my question is, were there no "Bic Sensitives"? My grandfather shaves with it and it gives him a close shave.
I use Nivea shave gel, and I put a lil bit on my hand and then rub it onto my face, i dont recommend lathering it into your hands because you have to wash it straight off and doesn't lather that well
You can actually bowl lather shave gel, i used to do it with a shaving brush before i got soaps.
Barbasol makes a 5 pack of disposable twin blade razors that sells for $1.00 at Dollar Tree, looks similar to the one you are using in the video.
The scent your smellimg is the propellant. Its usually isobutane or isopentane.
Bic sensitive (yellow handle)2.40-12 count vender Hagen puck soap 1.99 already had the brush under 10 bucks
That would be a good idea for a video. Good quality but budget DE shaving.
I can say I really do like arko. Stirling is my favorite company but arko is first cheap and performs well.
I think is more like saving means than don’t need expensive to shave i think is more like what make you feel happy and comfort and easy to shave don’t need to expect a lot of money .
Was cool to see one of these videos!
Really looking forward to that medium level shave :D
I’ll have to do some research!
Try mixing the cheapest and most expensive shaving items that you have... just for fun :) Take care and a happy day.
Oooh! I like that.
Friday we better see the vintage barbasol and 1918 gillette
Oh-Ho-Ho!! Maybe. May be!! 😂
I shop HEB all the time out here in San Angelo. Not for my shaving, but for our groceries and other essentials.
It’s the best!
Aqua Velva is good stuff!
I can still smell it!
I know it well cause my Granddaddy uses it!!
Isn't there "something about an Aqua Velva Man" ? LOL.
I’m a cheapskate and i’m offended
Ha! You’ve probably got more money saved up than all of us!
@@SinatraLennon not really bought one time investment of like $40 then 10 every 6monts for blades
lol grow up dude
You love to spend the money... I just bought almost 2 years worth of razor blades for £8 which is around $11 I guess. That's cheapskating ;)
@@Lemurquito which one do you find better near-crippling debt(the usa) or a decent government that can still improve even though it's been around for 800 years( britain)
Yeah disposable razors get clogged up i am a electric razors kind of guy. I collect them from electric trimmers to. Electric razors to disposable razors ive got it all
was moving the other day and had to crush at my pops place; he still shaves really low budget, plastic disposable razors included. since i left my safety razor in another suitcase i had to work with what i had at the time and it was really fun! i would definitely do it again just for the sake of changing something and spicing things up a little bit:))
I used edge shave gel for the longest time before I switched to de. One tip is to apply just like barbasol so you get it all around the hairs. But gels do gum up razors a lot more than barbasol/hand made lathers
Yeah, I found that to be true with this gel. Clogged up a lot.
Every once and awhile we all have a cheap shave and bottom line it does work
Rewatching because this is one of my favorite episodes 😄 You should do another "cheap shave" sometimes... Pretty interesting
Hey! Glad you’re here. I’ll try to show more band stuff in the future!
I use a cheep razor and I also use aqua velva
I love your content, when I used to use those cheap throwaways before I knew better, I only used each razor twice then threw it away. If I used it more than that it would nick the heck out of my face.
I have disposable Gillett razor and want to throw away , but I give a chance and shave and still satisfied . It all depends on your skin and diameter of your beard shaft . Now more than 9 times I shaved and still sharp.
Yeah, Tesco, Sainsbury's, Asda, Aldi, Lidil - the lot all have their own brands of razor here in England
I knew it! It’s worldwide.
you never used Aqua Velva?? It's good stuff for a quick shave
I know! I’m about 100 years late to the party.
How many shaves can i get from a razor like that?
I use a Mach 3 cause it’s good quality for the price and it’s my starter razor
For now it’s just Van der Hagen and their blades.
I just found this channel and im 13 and I just started shaving yesterday cause yesterday was my 13th birthday.
I use Gillette shaving cream and Stetson after shave and Gillette razors.
Keep up the good work!!
Good luck on your new shaving journey! Try out a safety razor and see if you like it.
@@SinatraLennon I will!!
I know some about them cause my daddy has one
I tried using these to shave my head and quickly learned that this was a mistake. I use a safety razor on my face and $5 shave club on my head.
Subbed instantly when i heard ''but, a hundred bucks is a hundred bucks'' too real.
Luckily you don't have to spend that much to get a good safety razor...
If you want a cheap preshave use LectricShave before applying your soap. Works really well for DE even though it’s meant as an electric shaver preshave. You can find it at almost any drug store or supermarket. It’s really helped my skin as far as dryness/irritation.
I wonder what’s in it that prepares your skin for shaving. You could use it before electric or wet shaving I reckon.
SinatraLennon it has a kinda oily feel, but by the time you’ve done 2 or 3 passes it’s gone so you don’t feel greasy. Smells pretty good too
15:43Hello :-) You have to say "Beat the devil out of it " 😎✌😂 greetings from germany Tobias
I shave this way on rare occasions, but currently I have no goo in a can. I do have some Aqua Velva, and one disposable razor. I also have some brushless creams.
Love the background music on this one. Thanks for another entertaining video.
A little vintage jazz.
HEB for the win!!! Wow that’s some cheap stuff 😮
Fantastic video brother!
Yeah, love me some HEB.
Your comment made me laugh out loud! It’s a shave gel and a nacho topping! It’s a dessert topping, it’s a floor wax!
Canned whipped cream can be used as an emergency shaving cream! So can oily peanut butter.
I find that the 2 bladed disposable razors work fine. They're much better than the 1 bladed bic sensitives.
Hey, thanks! I got those Feather (and Bic) blades today. I now have stock after being down to my last Feather blade. Yeah! Oh, can't forget the pinch of menthol crystals too. Again, thanks.
Great! Use the menthol crystals wisely. Or not at all! I’m an enabler. 😏
Idk just typing this to get you more motivated you are doing a great job
Interesting video. I got my vintage tech for $6.00, use astra sp blades at least 5x each at 10 cents/ blade, proraso cream $9.00 that outlasts 10 or so cans of gel. I should work out my cost/shave. I do really like the idea you're getting across.
BOTBarrel price will give you botb experience. however, for just a tad more, one is in range of Nivea/Aveeno, and ANY razor will be an upgrade. Those in the vid are traveling salesman /hotel quick shave products, and they do serve a purpose
Hey Sinatra how Are you doing? I use shaving gel every day what do you think about shaving gels
Enjoyed your video sir ! Keep em coming !!!
Olive oil works for me as a shaving oil. A wine sized bottle only costs £2 & will last years. Can't get cheaper than that.
Interesting!
It is clear so you can see where you are shaving. Rub it into my face with my hands & leave it for a minute.
I actually like using shave gel with a brush, lathers as soon as It touches your face.
I swear the BIC ones are at a different angle, as I always manage to slice my face up with them. But that's all I knew existed when I started shaving, borrowed my Dad's who always buys the cheapest stuff he can find.
On the more expensive bic ones they actually brag about the angle tuned for a close shave so it seems they do it on purpose
I have the same problem with Wilkinson, different angle than BIC. The Black BIC are pretty good though!
In my terms the cheapest is Bic metal disposable razor, touchme shaving cream or Gillette shave gel, touchme shaving brush and aqua velva about £1
Great Video Sinatra ! Looks like you can get a decent shave in a pinch for cheap razors and shave cream !
Actually, for the money, Aqua Velva is the best aftershave. Independent studies have determined that it cools razor burn, has a nice scent, and last a long time.
Hahahaha!! Love it! More more. So calming and motivating.
I can get the cost of shaving once a day down to $10 or $11 a year. Cheap razors and cheap foam. I just recently switched to electric rotor shaver.
@@SinatraLennon let us know what you find out if you can!
Love that Aqua Velva!!
Didn’t cringe, just whimpered a little as you’re trying to buff 😂
Yeah, go DE and save lots of money they said 😆
You seem to collect safety razors like I collect fountain pens.
