Who were the Mods and Rockers, What were teenagers like in the 1960s and 1960s vintage fashion.
Let's take an in depth look at two conflicting British youth subcultures and talk about who were the first subculture in Britain and how did that influence the Mods and Rockers of the 1960s. We will answer the questions what was life in Britain in the 1960s like and discover the history of mid century modern design. How to dress like a rocker how to dress like a mod and how these differences eventually led to violence at the British Seaside Resorts of Clacton and Brighton in the summer of 1964.
Let's explore the counterculture of the 1960s and find out who were the mods and rockers and why did they fight.

I remember reading an article from a website many years ago, which featured an ex mod and ex rocker talking about those times. They also mentioned that there were occasions, especially at the seaside resorts, where reporters would pay them to stage a fight, so it would give the newspapers a story. Depending on the scale of the staged fight, the payment for the mods and rockers could range from giving them a really good night out, to a down payment for a new scooter or motor bike.
😂 That's so interesting!
They said that about my own, the Ted's, so I don't know how true that is. The Ted's had one excuse, WW2 psychosis, their world being destroyed in childhood by war 9:-Y
Thank you Ms Amanda ❤
I think I am going to attend our 55th high school homecoming in Rocker attire in contra distinction with Mod (ernist)
Happy day to you 😊
@@robertopanerio8469 Sounds fun! 😊

Great! Happy to hear from you 😊!!
Hi there Amanda I have been a mod from 1977 when I saw the jam on top of the pops and from then on I was fascinated by finding out everything that I could about mods in the sixties and have loved it ever since I really enjoyed your video and hope to see more from you thanks and keep it up darling xx
That's so cool! Happy you liked the video 😊!
So interesting. Some of those photos are so stylish and cool ❤
I love the photos too ❤
Hi Amanda, greetings from Brazil! I loved your video, since I was in search to understand more of that groups. Awesome explanation!
That is really great to hear 😊!
Hi! Can you explore the transition between the Rocker and the Grenoble or Greaser in the late 60s early 70s? These followed the look of the American hells angels… long, matted hair, filthy torn clothing, facial hair, obscene patches, and what became known as the heavy metal look… and custom Choppers versus the British racer bikes… thanks!
@@exebit9366 Great suggestion 😊
@ I was fascinated by hells angels and outlaw bikers since childhood and studied Cultural Studies courses at Uni for my Media degree at the dawn of the internet early nineties)… if you haven’t done so already, check out academics such has Dick Hebdige (‘revolt into style’) and Stuart Hall… they were the first academics to seriously study youth culture… and their work is very similar to your narrative of the frankly, quire brilliant documentary on mods and rockers. Excellent work :)
@exebit9366 Thank you! I appreciate your kindness in sharing resources 😊 Very much appreciated 👍

YIPEEEEEE MORE AMANDA
🖤 Woop 🎉
I'm 61 years old (???) born in 1962 and love the 50's specially the music bikes and cars. They had a Little more style than the 60's. But now it's the 2000's and nowadays youngsters miss everything the elderly youth had then.😂😂😂
That's true 😊!
@@classforbrits watch the 70's movie "Quadrophenia". I have it in my house while I'm a Rocker. It's hilarius.
@@henrysonnemann2597 Yes!!! Good shout 👍
@@classforbrits I know. I was 16 when I saw it for the first time. One good sight on what happend with the youngsters (teenagers) from the 60's.
@@henrysonnemann2597 It's fascinating!
Hey Amanda, sorry to tell you but, you are wrong on at least 2 statements on your video: The Rockers were not an evolution of the Teddy Boys from the 50s, the Rockers were an evolution of the Ton-Up Boys from the 50s. 2nd: the term "rocker" was a term hurled at the ton-up boys by the Mods because they listened to 50s Rock-n-Roll music and not the music the Mods listened to.
Brilliant 😊 Thank you for sharing...
@@classforbrits I owe you an apology, my original message was quite terse and a bit rude, there was no reason for me to come at you that hard. I do apologize.
Great video, youre beautiful Amanda 😍❤
Bless you 😊 Happy you liked it!
well... i obviously read that title wrong... but nice video though. very informative.
I always thought we got our look from the early modern jazz scene, and Italian, Jewish youth who worked in the rag trade .
Thank you for adding that! 🖤 Really interesting
@@classforbrits theres more to the mod scene than scooters parkas and Brighton
@@CarlJones-in8pm I'm sure! 😊
@@classforbrits you looked into the scene a little more you would see the early mods took the tear boy jacket kept the box shape shorten the length to create a bum freezer and narrowed the lapels and keeping the straight almost drainpipe trouser, female MODS were masculine Tom boyish in style little make up short boyish hairs cuts
@@CarlJones-in8pm Hopefully that will be helpful to somebody looking for more details... Appreciated!
Yes, started with the Teddy Boys, the Godfathers of Todays "Hoodies""Chavs" and "Scallys".
I like that! 👏😊
Still no damn turtles :(🐢🐢🐢
