- In this Lightroom tutorial, I will show you how to turn a daylight photo that could be boring into a moody darker Harry Potter style photo!
Check out My good Friend Jamie R Mathlin on 500px and follow him here: 500px.com/Selb...
You will learn in Lightroom to use the radial filter and brushes to transform the photo and make into a dramatic photo.
I love this technique, Serge, and the results it gives! Thank you for sharing.
Your welcome! Very happy you like this technique :-)
I am so addicted to your videos - they are the highlight of my week! I have always thought of photography as, "making art with light." You really take this to the next level! Your photos are beautiful and video presentation is totally engaging. Thank you SO much Serge!
Wow you made my day with this comment, that is so nice to hear! I am very happy that you enjoy my videos, that motivates me so much do more! :-)
Serge, I started watching you a few years ago doing the hotel rooms in Paris. I've always been fascinated with the way you create light. It seems to me that this is even better than before. While your videos have always been great, to me it seems that now you are really in the mode of teaching by showing and explaining, rather than just showing. You're really putting in the effort. I hope it pays off well for you. I love this. Thank you for your hard work and sharing.
yes it is a new format im happy that you like it
learned a lot from your tutorials last two months Serge! You're a guy who can make people havin fun with photography. Thanks Theo from holland,
This is so nice to hear Theo I really appreciate, glad you enjoy the videos and you are having fun!

Serge, just wanted to say how much I appreciate your videos and tutorials. You are one of the most consistant and hard working uploaders I know. Keep up the good work my friend.
Thank you very much for every video. It's a lot of work for you, but it's a great inspiration for us... You really inspire and you taught me things in easy steps and I see a great difference in my photos.
Thank you so much that means a lot!!
Wow, this will be a great addition to my arsenal. I do this sometimes to add lights when they are off during early bluehour. But I never went as far as turn day into night. I did watch your tutorial on it before. This looks great. Thanks for sharing.
yes give it a shot!
Excellent tutorial...I love this kind of tutorial.
Awesome! Happy you like it! :-)
Amazing technique, to do this more realistic you have to understand how is the light cast on different types of lights, for example the light at 09:50, it casts the light to the sides and not below.
Yes you are right! :-)
I actually like this type of editing for effect. I must learn the command+shift options for controling the brushes. Love these tutorials for editing! Thank you and keep uploading lessons!
Serge, this is FANTASTIC!! That is creativity beyond photograhing. It combines foto with a new level of creativity. Let me find time to simulate this. Once more: THANKS. Ingo
Thank you so much! Excited to see the results! ;-)

Awesome! So happy you are learning new stuff with my videos :-)
This is an awesome tutorial...WOW!!!
Thank you so happy you like it
I love this effect Serge. Thanks for sharing. I can’t wait to try it
Really like the dramatic re-lighting of the scene. I certainly will try this at home. I can see how doing this in Lightroom (instead of Photoshop) with sliders at each pin area, as it is more convenient to adjust sliders back and forth when changing the global lighting and then local area lighting again so there is balance and believe-ability.
Very Nice Serge! Thanks!
Thank you so much!
Thanks Serge, your sessions are very inspiring.
Very glad! :-)
Amazing tutorial! Please keep them coming!
Absolutely ;-)

Hi there. You inspired me to take up photography. Now, it is supporting my tertiary education. Thank you so much. I would like to suggest you to do a video on choosing place for landscape photography.
ok great idea!
So pleased to have found your channel. Your enthusiasm for your craft is tremendously inspiring and you state things clearly and completely. You are a natural teacher Thank you for taking the time to do these. They are very helpful. I do not work in the Apple environment, but Linux. Although my software (Darktable, Raw Therapee, The GIMP) have different user interfaces I can still apply your principles to them.
good stuff Serge! i enjoy your videos....last year i was in bananna republic in south coast mall and to my discovery they had your photography book on display!!!! congratzy on your fame =)
Thank you very much! Yes it is so funny I saw it as well ;-)
Love it. Thanks for letting us watch you play with your sliders!
you are welcome
Great video Serge. I was familiar with the idea of shooting day for night from movie production but hadn't seen it done with photos. I've had a couple of goes with some of my images and got some cool results already!
Oh wow that’s really cool! :-)
Genial la Modificación de la foto !!!!!! 👏👏👏👏
merci!!
Hi Serge, I always learn something new from your videos and enjoy your style of delivery , maybe one day you could revisit the film locations for the 1956 film the Red Balloon and photograph them in your style of course adding a red balloon
That’s a cool idea :-) thanks for the suggestion :-)
Absolutely love this kind of edit. Thank you Serge..

grazias
Wow !! Awesome tutorial, thank you so much !
You’re welcome
Dope video. Lots of lots to learn from you
thanks!
Awesome as always Mr.Serge Looking forward to try this effect on my next photos.
one little thing, i was hoping giving us some RAW photos to practice with it and apply this effect on it to get familier with it, other then that it was a brilliant video THANK YOU FOR ALL
you are welcome!
This is great! Thank you sooo much! Wondering what you would do with people in the photos? Was thinking daytime light in the room could look like moonlight & also lamp lit.... so people more orange, and room blue / silver light??? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
I guess it would be the glow from the light so it would be golden colours
Good jobb as allways and thanks for sharing your knowladge with us.
welcome!
Can’t wait to try this in my photos
Nice video. One suggestion is to be aware of corners. When the light is added above the "BRICAdiCORNICI" sign about the 8:15 and the erase brush is used is used to shape it, the added glow extends around the corner and on the wall down the street above the orange hued window. Obviously, that would not happen in reality.
true
Fantastic technic
Thanks! Glad you like, hope it will be useful :-)
Great tutorial, are you doing all these adjustments in the same layer or separate layers, keep up the good work.
thanks a lot
fitou143, there are no layers in Lightroom, but you can add multiple brushes to the photo, and those are adjustable.
You have the best tutorials, I was wondering If you can do more hdr portraits
ok goid idea!
Excellent! I have been looking for this caliber of instruction.!
Thanks a lot
Great idea and video ! Bravo !
tks!!
Bravo Serge, Well done. Got your free sky replacement and having fun. we will see about the pro version. Would be nice to have an in between version with about half of the pro version for about half the money. Bet you sell more.
Merci beaucoup. Excellent tutorial and custom laptop cover.
I like ur work on dodge n burn! :) when adding light sources in composition there are projections of shadows that could be considered, for this one the
curtain in window 2 also is a bit distractive and should be darker. thank you..
ok got it
I love this technique Serge! You are a Genius! I saw you do this once and finally I'm going to try it in one of my pictures. Marci Serge. Hugs!
i like all your tutorials
Looking forward to this one! Watching it now!
YEAH!!! You are the first ;-)
That's great! Wow, I'd never thought of doing anything like that! Thanks!
Welcome!
Hi serge, as always good video. I was thinking if we can do this same on landscapes where we don't have lamps to amplify that the photo is of a dark time
Yes you can but it does look better in cityscape with the light effect ;-)
Great video Serge! This is a challenge! So you always underexpose a daylight photo and then turn it into a night foto while bringing back the shadows for more details correct? I'll have to try this myself!
If I want to create that effect yes it is what I do ;-) I would love to see your results
@@SergeRamelliPhotography I'll give it a go 😁👍
Great video. My first like! Looking forward to seeing you in Paris next week.
Thank you so much! Excited to meet you there too ;-)
I love this video, it's very helpful, thanks! :D
you are welcome
Serge Ramelli Photography can you have a thing where we send you raw photos and then you edit them and show them? Check out my instagram and let me know what you think if you have time, I’m @nathanknows
Great tutorials. Keep them coming!
Great job Serge. I love this style of video, this is digtal imaging in 2019. Stylized and artistic, you rock.
Very interesting technique, would it potentially not work better on B&W instead?
yes!
Serge ur the very best! I’m learning so much from you!!!! Thank you my friend 😍👍🏽⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This is so so amazing, very happy to hear that!
Thank you kindly - I'm hoping can do the same in PS as don't use lightroom.
you can exactly the same
very nice tuto. Are you using a wacom or Xp-pen tablet with LR/ACR ? LR is by default "pressure changes opacity" but it is lagging a lot with respect to mouse so it is awful, too much or nothing. in general my LR has become very slow. i have improved it by removing dynamic collections and disconnecting LR mobile.
Oh nice I usually use my mouse with Lightroom and my wacom with Photoshop :-)
thanks. same for me, brush in LR, wacom intuos pro small or XP-PEN G640 in photoshop (XP-PEN works better in win10 than wacom i think).
and what about Luminar 3. do you use a tablet ? i have tried and it is awful, lagging, hard to play with opacity. moreover i wonder when we will have a edge detetction in luminar.
Hey serge, would you recommend to speed up this kind of work flow to use photoshop for the windows? It's kinda annoying to work on the windows and in Photoshop it's just a few clicks to mask them.
Sure, I am not too familiar with Windows so whatever works for you :-)
I did a dark and moody shoot last week, spent hours on it, and the client says no she want bright, even blown out windows😱 ugh!!! So because that's how I shot it (this is my style, I like higher contrast and darker features, she knows this) so now I have to shoot it again🤬 thank you for thhis, this is awesome secret trick!
Your welcome! I am sure it will turn out great!
! LOVE ! THIS ! TYPE ! OF ! VIDEOS !
thanks so much!!
Hi Serge, it's very cool, will try it soon.
Awesome! Let me know how it goes :-)
I love it, and you are a cool guy.
Thanks so much
I would love see how you do a "moody portrait"
great idea!
Hi.. Thanks all your videos are wonderful... Can you do one course from taking image to processing to printing to preparation for making book... I mean a comprehensive course end to end... Thanks
ok I did a video about printing a while ago ua-cam.com/video/30wUedTXg-Q/v-deo.html
Serge, thank you for sharing. Your videos and photography are amazing! Here are a couple of ideas for future videos. 1 - take raw photo submissions from your viewers and edit them in your style. 2 - collaborate with other landscape photographers and do a challenge where you both (or all) capture the same subject in your own style and share the differences.
great idea !
Amazing!!
tks!
Great technique. I will be trying this soon.
That is awsome!!
thanks so luchy
Excellent. I have been doing this in Photoshop but it’s easier here in Lightroom
Nice! Yes I think so too :-)
Could you do on one working with portraits and incorporating the city scene?
Yes here it is: ua-cam.com/video/YoIw-9Y9X8c/v-deo.html
Love it...
merci
Nice technique, but for the windows, instead of drawing the radial filter and then erase around, why don't you paint directly over the windows with the brush tool? Thanks for the great tutorials!
I find it harder to do it that way but if it works for you, perfect ;-)
Awesome keep going and doing like this,i like your tutorial
thanks a lot!
Interesting video. Amazing what can be done from any photo. For me, less editing the better.
every tells his own story
Amazing technique.. I will try this on some of my photos this weekend
Sounds great! Let me know how it went, I love to see the results after a video ;-)
A great video Serge!! many thanks.
Serge - love this technique - are there some sample raw files to work with?
Yes here you can find some: www.photoserge.com/offers/Q4XRypgz/checkout
Great Serge !!, I was looking for a video with this technique. Thanks.
Oh wow that is so cool! Very happy if it helps you out! ;-)
Thank you.
