    I never met Grant, but look at how many people he's helped with these videos to get off of couches and gaming chairs and actually do something worthwhile. I knew how to make large batches of charcoal with clay mounds, but not small batches for little projects. This video popped up in my feed when it first was published and I've been using it to make 3lb batches of black powder with each paint bucket full, all thanks to Grant. I haven't bought any black powder in several years thanks to this - only substitutes for when I don't want to shoot anything corrosive through a hard to clean gun like a lever action. I've taken game and done French and Indian War reenactments and gotten Native American and non Native kids interested in their history with the black powder made with this charcoal method coupled with my trusty musket. Thanks, Grant. I know that you're enjoying this next adventure.

    During WWII the federal govt distributed literature which described how to convert gasoline powered engines to burn that wood gas through the process of gassificiation.
    Was basically a 55 gallon drum with a vent that went to your carburetor you filled with wood and biomass, and put that inside of a bonfire. Was designed so farmers could still farm with tractors if there was a shortage of fuel. Could also run low horsepower vehicles, even some pickup trucks of the day.

    • @brucecoulda1596

      theres a video a guy did running his whole farm off wood gas, also, MrTeslonian here on youtube has setup a ghetto outdoor wood gas distiller, and there was also a channel named victory gasworks run by a guy who made gasifiers for people and demoed them on youtube but has since stopped giving info out and started a commercial operation based on his designs, they have a website but no more informative videos :(... interesting stuff, they say 17 lbs of dried wood is equal to the power in 1 gallon of gasoline

    • @elementiro
      @elementiro 8 років тому +5

      Clear glass - I don't think so. Well, it would maybe break after some time because of teperature difference. And it won't be instant effect. If liquid nitrogen would heat, it would just boil a little more intensive, but created mist would disperse the light more effectively. The other thing is that liquid nitrogen and dry ice would only boil/evaporate heated, producing some mist, so - nothing very impressive. (however, if you would close them in container and then heat it would "explode" because of pressure). Anyway, hey, I said "presumably". I didn't say it's bad idea to try. I would be very happy to see that I'm wrong. =D

      It's charcoal not coal.
      Coal is made out of carbon which diamonds are aswell made up of. Diamonds are super compressed heated carbon.
      And a hydraulic press wouldn't be able to do it, you'd require several million tons.

I cut it up into smaller charcoal sized pieces and "cooked" it. I now have beautiful charcoal for the next time I cook. This video was awesome. Thanks. I appreciate it. I go through so much charcoal because I grill a lot. This video saved me hundreds of dollars. Easily.

      You could, probably, if you use an electrolytic seperator with water, you get highly flamable hydrogen gas and oxygen gas as well. Oxygen allows combustion, so if you can collect the gasses and control the output rate, you could certainly burn the gas, and with the right hydrogen to oxygen ratio, you could probably power a mini foundry.

    I love your channel and I have done most of your projects. You have a great channel and everything, I would like to see something more with rockets. Your rocket series was great. I was hoping you could build/make some other rockets(possibly more aerodynamically better or bigger) and/or make a new rocket fuel (possibly something that gives off more thrust and making a rocket go higher). Something else that'd be cool to see is more wilderness survival/emergency "hacks" that'd help with maybe camping or going on a long expedition. (Something kinda like maybe using old tic tac containers as holders for spices or something along those lines). Basically survival "life hacks".
    Thanks for taking your time to read this and put it into your consideration if you like the ideas.

    • @95TurboSol
      @95TurboSol 8 років тому +30

      Grant Thompson - "The King of Random"
      I really wish I did, when I researched it a few months ago I learned there are 2 basic methods to activate it, high heat steam or using acid + very high heat then washing it to remove the acid. But the temperatures involved are close to 2k Deg F for steam and even higher for the acid method, I know we have melted glass bottles in a super hot campfire before which is about a 3000F melting point, so it can be done but that fire took hours to make and was a stay 5 feet back or your clothes started smoking fire :)

      "activated charcoal" is just charcoal with a very high surface area to volume ratio.

      95TurboSol In theory, very fine sawdust that's turned into charcoal would be pretty decent.
