Had a friend who went to Japan she has beautiful strawberry blonde hair and she was sitting in a cafe, this dude kept touching and playing with her hair when she politely asked him to stop several times in Japanese. He followed her outside and she got mad and yelled at him to STOP and his response was to spit in her face and call her names. So I imagine that's why she reacts the way she does, it's a reflex to not escalate because their pride is so fragile, when broken or rejected they go 'full' caveman.

It was terrifying for her because she practically just arrived - her first time visiting Japan - and alone. There were a few people around when it happened but they weren't paying attention... She said the moment she turned around and firmly said "stop" - his expression slowly went from a sly smirk; to this cr@zy, dead-eyed, silent/cold yet enraged - complete "I'm gonna m*rder you"! Expression. Like "how dare YOU"!!!
And she couldn't help but freeze in that moment out of fear... After he spit in her face, cursed, walked away continuing to curse at her and spit on the ground - she felt relieved that it wasn't worse, but was completely in shock, disgusted and terrified. And she said she felt like it was 'her fault' somehow.... Then she just started shaking and balling. I don't remember what exactly 'she said' he called her, but it was along the lines of your basic -"foreign $|ut"/ trash, b!t€h" etc etc insults (she spoke "broken" Japanese but understands it well), but I remember her describing his face and expression in detail, and I felt fearful for her just hearing it.
I still want to visit Japan, just not alone 😅... Preferably learn the language first.
