I really like Kate Stewart. In spite of the flaws you mentioned. I like how she FEELS like a Lethbridge-Stewart. She (and the show by extension) doesn't just say she is. You watch how she speaks, and her body language, and you just go, "yep... that's the Brig's daughter." I think that's more a testament to Jemma Redgrave's acting (I mean, she's a freakin' Redgrave), but my point stands
'The Time Monster': worst TARDIS console room set ever. It makes me feel slightly ill just thinking of it. But i might not be 'with it' so far as console room trends go: i was informed recently that Paul McGann's 1996 interior was rubbish, and that's my favourite. Who knows?
He's literally the title character and has been in the lead in almost every episode. He by no means fits the definition of a recurring character in a series.
FWIW, in the Zygon 2-parter, Kate at least remembered that the Zygon's aren't immune to bullets, which everyone else seemed to forget as they stood around with their mouths hanging open as the Zygons zapped 'em.
On the point about Osgood and whether the one who died was Human or Zygon, I think the point is that no one knows the answer. There's no way of knowing and yeah, you can say it needs to be one Human and one Zygon for the truce to work, but ultimately it still works because no one knows if that's the case or not. All we know it's it's either one Human, one Zygon or it's two Zygons. But, we simply don't know which. Hell, I doubt that the Zygon who became the other Osgood at the end (I forget her name) even knows.
NPCarlsson One fatal flaw in that theory... The human must remain alive for the Zygon duplicate to retain its form... Therefore, it HAD to have been the Zygon who died, otherwise, the Zygon duplicate of Osgood would've lost that form and thus, no more Osgood PERIOD... (Ref. "Terror of the Zygons")
Yeah that's my take on it as well... and you don't even have to go as far back at TotZ ... just go back to the first part of the Clara and the Zygons story and you see that they still had to keep the subject alive to duplicate their memories
wait the doctor himself had said that the 2 had merged so well that even if the human had died then the other would be able to maintain her form, also she said it herself it does not goddamn matter one died that was the point and that was one of many sparks for the zygon uprise
Christopher Althouse But, they explained that in The Zygon Invasion that they no longer need to keep the human counterpart alive. I'd link a clip if I could find one, but The Doctor comes to that conclusion as well and says to Osgood that she must be the human. But, Osgood explains that Zygons only need to keep the humans alive if they need more information from them. That's why the Zygon Clara was threatening to kill real Clara if she didn't tell her the truth.
Exactly. The reason why Osgood was chosen to be the caretaker of the box was because there wasn't that differentiation between them. There wasn't a "Human Osgood" and a "Zygon Osgood", there was just Osgood. The two of them figured out back during the 50th anniversary which was which, thanks to the inhaler, and they decided it didn't matter, They moved past that distinction, which is why the doctor trusted them with that secret.
One of the reasons I love Jenny is because she explains Madame vaxtras completely inhumane actions to humans from the outside world as if they are nothing. Like for instance when she tells Clara that she is having a criminal for dinner I just think is hillarious
Ashildir shouldn't have been as immortal as she was. She said all the other immortals had gone by then, like how tf is a little human girl with a little medical square on her head more immortal than captain jack? A "fixed point in time"
Honestly, this really annoyed me. It's like, if all it takes you make you COMPLETELY immortal is a bit of souped-up alien medical tech, why isn't everyone doing it in the future?
Like.. There are immortals that can't die from anything but the immortal that could die from getting shot is the only one still alive? How is that possible? Especially when (at least to me) they're as annoying as Ashildr or that Me bullshit she calls herself
Her being the only immortal alive is very convenient for the story. Even Jack, who was made immortal by the dangerous in the tardis dies eventually as the face in the story. She just should live extremely long. Still not a bad character, but she suered i make my characters the best, the most immortal, syndrome. Or she could have lead a clan of immortals. Missed opputunity.
Ned Barks exactly, the technology that kept her alive definitely shouldn't have lasted as long as the power of the time vortex or whatever kept jack alive. The doctor consulting a council of immortals would have been cool, hell bent was still bs tho 😂
The "traditional" (Old Who) definition of a companion would have excluded Vincent anyway since he only traveled within the span of a single story. He's sort of like Sara Kingdom who traveled with the doctor to multiple locations in one story but who didn't stay after that. (Well, couldn't stay in her case.) But companion rules are nutty and everyone has their own. Liz Shaw, River Song, the Brigadier, and others are all borderline in weird ways that it's hard to come up with a perfect rule that doesn't allow or disallow too many characters. It's all in fun!
liz and the brig were mainly in the3rd doctors era, and he was stuck on earth for 3 of his 5 years, so earth bound companions count, and the brig and sgt benton HAS travelled in the TARDIS (more than once actually) so they are definately companions
Agree with the top. But maybee Donna Nobles mother Sylvia deserved a place on the list. She’s just a bit overbearing, normal middle class woman who’s not interested in the bigger issues. She’s trying to cope, and doing it rather well. Well acted in a role tha could’ve been boring to watch, but was written so well, as it developed the character of Donna so one could understand her better...
This actually makes sense, it's kinda changed my mind although I do agree she is boring to watch but I do get the concept and I've come e to realise how she serves as contrast to Wilf's happy and jolly personality and I feel that she is a very realistic character who has the most realistic reactions
To me, I liked the sort of ambiguity of Osgood's ending, how even if the real Osgood died it didn't matter since they (at that point) represented being neither human or Osgood, they were a symbol of peace between them. The real Osgood could be dead, but it doesn't matter, and I like the ambiguity of that
Well actually, the real Osgood can't be dead because it was established that the Zygons need to keep the original alive so they can take that person's shape.
@@sw3602 Pretty sure they don't have to keep them alive to refresh the image anymore. They explained this in either the Zygon Invasion/Inversion. Of course this could be falsified but I don't think so. I think Missy killed the Human Osgood. The beauty is we probably will never know, and it's better that way.
I really felt like Harriet Jones was just a normal, every day woman with only her common sense and hard work behind her. She wasn't special or glamorous, she was just a very down to Earth person who found herself thrust into these situations and had to make those massively powerful decisions that none of us would want to make. I like how normal she was, yet so brave and resourceful and like you said - willing to do anything for the actual greater good. I liked Craig too because it was interesting to see how chaotic he could make someone's life in one episode and the strength he gave them that carried onto the next encounter. I agree that bringing him back would not be a good idea.
I liked danny pink. He was an interesting foil to the doctor. I didn't like clara with capaldi. She got on my nerves. I wish she had left and danny had become a companion. I always thought that the doctor was projecting his own self hatred onto danny in regards to his participation in the time war. In a good man goes to war, that one girl says in the language of her people, the doctor is translated as warrior. This is especially seen in him asking himself if he was a good man. Danny, i think, reminded him too much of himself, so it was easier for him to be mean to him. I wonder if he didn't understand why someone would choose to become a soldier. I don't think the doctor had a choice in the time war (at least pre 50th timeline). It was either let the time war go on and destroy the universe or use the moment.
I personally DESPISE Ashildr/Me and would put her in a list of the WORST characters to ever appear on the show, even excluding Hell Bent. Its mainly due to one line in In The Woman who lived, when asked why she didn't use the immortality capsule on anyone, what was her response? "No one's good enough." even though we later find out that includes HER OWN CHILDREN! If she'd said "why would I inflict immortality on anyone else" or something along those lines that would of been reasonable and made sense but she didn't she said "No one's good enough." making her come across as completely callous! Even after seemingly learning her lesson by the end she switches right back to being an awful person in Face the Raven. It might of worked if she was meant to be a villain but I don't think that was what Moffat was going for.
BladeOfFlames Productions My bad on the spelling corrected it now. It was more the callous way she came across if she'd given the reason that she considered immortality a curse she didn't want to inflict on anyone else I'd have no issue but she just said "No one was good enough".
Also, the alien tech square that made Ashildr immortal stops the aging process unlike Captain Jack's immortality. If I'm remembering correctly, we see a scene of her crying over what appears to be babies. If she had given one of her children immortality before they grew up they would be eternal babies. Even if she was planning on giving one immortality, the plague took them away before she had the chance.
My main issue with Danny is he comes across, at times, as controlling and/or emotionally manipulative. Whether that's down to Samuel Anderson's performance, or if it was authorial intent, I've no idea, but he just feels 'wrong' somehow.
Danny encouraged Clara to calm down after the incident in Kill the Moon so that she could repair her relationship with the Doctor. If he was controlling or manipulative, he would have encouraged her to stay away from him so that he could have her for himself.
@@tomnorton4277 My instinct at the time was he was being supportive in words only. His intent, I felt, was more coercive than that. Looking back, I'm not entirely sure I agree with that stance now, but I still don't find the character particularly likeable. As I say, I don't know why.
I completely agree on #1, I really enjoyed her as a recurring character and always chuckled when she'd go to introduce herself. "Yes, we know who you are" Haha, even the Sycorax knew who she was. I didn't know there was hate for Danny Pink. I liked him a lot and just felt bad for him, as I thought Clara and the Doctor treated him terribly.
One thing you may not know is Osgood is also a nod to classic fandom. In 'The Daemons' - one of Pertwee's stories - the Doctor is trapped inside a heat barrier and has to work with the Brigadier's technical fella to create a device to get through. Sergeant Osgood. I very much doubt the name is a co-incidence.
Harriet Jones would be my top pick. I'm also very glad to see Danny Pink on your list. I loved his character. In fact, the only time I ever really enjoyed Clara was in her interactions with him. Clara henpecked the Doctor (especially #12) mercilessly and took on an annoyingly godlike persona, but with Danny she seemed much more human and vulnerable.
But wouldn't the memebers of the Paternoster Gang count under your definition of companion? They all traveled via the TARDIS in "A Good Man Goes to War," do they not?
He doesn't include that because we never actually seen them in the tardis. We assume it's the only poisible way they could have got there, but we didn't see it sooo
When looking at the classic series, there are just fewer to pick from since outside of the UNIT era, The Doctor didn't re-encounter that many characters. There was Professor Travers, the Alpha Centauri Ambassador from the two Peladon episodes, and Sabalom Glitz that I can think of off hand. The "never traveled in the TARDIS" criteria can get a little dicey. In The Three Doctors, Benton and the Brigadier were in the TARDIS when it got sucked into the anti-matter universe. It wasn't under its own power, but they technically traveled in the TARDIS. Brigadier also traveled in Mawdryn Undead (without The Doctor) and at the end of The Five Doctors (timey wimey at best). For Liz Shaw, I consider her a companion because she did all the companion things moreso than the military regulars from UNIT. She didn't travel in the TARDIS only because she couldn't.
Pretty solid list. Definitely agree with number one too. Also gotta say the actress of Harriet Jones (Penelope Wilton) is on my second favourite show Downton Abbey and that definitely boosted it up for me as well.
I think the thing with Jenny is that she is a fighter but she is not expected to be, plus you kind of see her evolve and taking more chances as the episodes progress.
I’m fairly certain that the paternoster gang have traveled with the doctor from the a good man goes to war episode Edit: wait so do we have to see the people in the tardis or can it be presumed because in the episode the tardis appears in their house and in the next scene they are on the weird military spaceship thing
They have to be seen entering, exiting or inside of the Tardis and travel in it so no 'A Good Man Goes to War' and 'The Name of the Doctor' do not count
LOVE Harriet!! It's entirely plausible that she talked the daleks out of killing her #BringBackHarriet 😁 Strax is my 2nd, just because he cracks me up. Vastra, Jenny and Osgood round out my top 5. I still think they should do a spin off show with Strax, Vastra and Jenny 😆
I hated her Her absolute confidence in bossing the Doctor around and basically being perfectly ok with letting Clara die and sending the Doctor into effectiveally TimeLord Hell She is awful
I... think the reason Kate took such a hit in the zygon episodes was partially due to Clara. In order to beef up Clara's intelligence and importance in the episodes, she made a lot of deductions and performed actions that Kate was easily capable of performing herself and would have, had Clara not been the centre of attention. I'm really hoping the UNIT gang make a reappearance in S11 because I love them in the BF audios and they deserve more onscreen character time (bonus points if Josh and Sam make an appearance).
I have despised IT since series seven, and yes I agree, Kate is a scientist, IT is an English teacher (not that theres anything wrong with English teachers they can be quite brilliant!!), what makes IT so much better!
Re Jenny: Ever since the first doctor and Katarina, the show's writers have struggled to integrate companions from history or from other retrograde societies. Their only real success has been Jamie, mainly by giving him plenty of warrior stuff to do. I'm guessing writers consider the rewards too small to justify the challenge. I've never tried writing a Doctor Who story so I can't imagine how difficult a challenge that is. What I do know is Louise Jameson (Leela) quit the job because the writers side stepped that challenge.
my problem with Danny is the plot hole that he leaves. In the future, there is a descendant of Danny, Olsen pink, my question is How does he exist if Danny died before having any children?
Maybe Danny's death wasn't a fixed point? Alternate future maybe. The doctor was definitely more willing than usual to help try to get him back, even finding him a way to come back. So yh. Time can be re-written on that one..
On rewatch I actually really liked Danny. He got some amazing moments. I loved him calling out the Doctor as an 'officer' when they met and his answer to "When did you get so wise?" "Same as anyone else. I had a really bad day." Also him selflessly giving up his chance to live in order to give the boy his life back.
Agree with your number 1. Agree with what you said about Danny. I could never put my finger on why I didn't like him even though I did like his character. You really summed it up for me. Definitely agree with everything you said about Jenny. I probably would have tried to squeeze Amelia in there. I know technically she's Amy but still, I think she deserves her own credit.
Maybe this is an unpopular opinion, but I would love to see the Doctor's Daughter, Jenny, come back, at least for one episode. It's something I've wanted for a long time, and I think she would be great to introduce for another one-off story with 13. One recurrence.
I liked Kate Stuart in DotD, but she was very stupid in arming a nuke right beneath London to stop a few Zygons from getting the artefacts. I mean, a normal bomb would work just fine,
I think it was the human Osgood who died judging by one line. That's where she says she never met Clara. If I'm not mistaken, Zygon Osgood never had a proper interaction with her, while the human one did?
Well, there's a line in the zygon 2 parter where Osgood tells the Doctor this is no longer the case, so that line about Clara is all we really have to go on.
Yuki Nagato I don't remember Osgood interacting with Clara in the day of the doctor at all, but it's been a while since I've seen, it so I'll be watching it again tomorrow to make sure.
All the planes around the world have stopped. "Thats alot of passengers" "Thats alot of fuel" Oh god... you're right!" *SERIOUSLY KATE?!* You thought of the passengers, but not the fuel??!! Hell, the ENTIRETY of UNIT, and nobody thought of how much fuel was up there?
Regarding the Osgood thing, the whole point in the two-Osgoods dynamic is that it's ambiguous to everyone except themselves as to which one is human. Therefore, after one of them died it would make sense for the other to not reveal whether she's human or zygon. In which case, the decision for the replacement doesn't consider the species of the current Osgood a factor. I guess it would be pushing it if they always replaced one of them with a Zygon and never a human though.
I always assumed it was the Zygon who died because otherwise who is Zygella going to copy? Can a Zygon copy a Zygon copy of a Human? Seems a bit of a stretch given how the Zygons had to keep the human alive in order to be able to mimic them accurately earlier in the two parter.
I do like Strax but yes in the modern series the Sontarans are for sure watered down and less scary, which I miss. But what I love is the sarah jane adventures episode where she finds a sontaran ship and she is downright terrified seeing it again, she knows that she, with this ragtag team of kids are way out of the depth and she cannot handle this alone, that's how much of a threat they are. It was like watching the sontaran experiment cliffhanger where they are finally revealed again.
Before I get to my main thoughts on charcter opinions that caught my interest, I just want to ask you if you'd consider doing a list of people you'd wish became companions. You know at list of almost companions. You could have Astrid, sweet Lynda from 9's era (I was so upset when she was killed, they had me fooled she would join), that guy from Mummy on the Orient express, the two from Time Heist and dammit all I hate how Moffat spent that whole series basically taunting us with red herring companions. I personally think he did it out of spite because of all the complaints about Clara. Anyways the rules would have to be people who were asked, or asked the Doctor but for some reason or another couldn't/wouldn't travel with him. Unless you've already done this? Not sure to be honest but thought I'd ask encase you haven't. Anyways moving on and I might as well apologies now for the long comment just you know as an obsessed whovian I couldn't help myself. First of all..I despise Ashildir. I understand you like her but for me. I found her a boring, self important, fanfic reminiscent character and just...well I'm glad some people like her but nothing will change my opinion on her. I love Craig, I kind of wished after the Lodger that he could have gone on a trip (even just one) with the Doctor, simply because I enjoy his personality and how he interacted with the Doctor. Also, I love Strax he's so entertaining to watch and just sort of endearing. I don't blame him for the Sontarans being devalued though I do see where your coming from. I blame the writers, they could have wrote and episode to redeem them, make them seem threatening again, hell still could but they haven't. Danny Pink you did change my opinion on him. You made me realize that actually I don't hate him, I though about what you said at the beginning and realized I do like his personality and it was his effect on the show/what he represented that put me off. Basically how your explanation was great. Jenny...eh I don't hate her, don't love her. She's a bit boring to me, sort of meh so I was baffled you had her so high but hey opinions. I enjoyed hearing your enthusiasm as you explained why you liked her. Harriet Jones, hell yes. Her development is wonderful, we see how she grows as a person. Also I also thought the Doctor's reaction and judgement to her was undeserved and I also like how she didn't hold it against him, it showed her strength of character.
I was convinced we would see Lilly awell (Dr window and the wardrobe) Moffat does like child come back adult thing, thought alot more could have been done with her, she was good little actress and I know Dr who thinks it's moved on from all that but you could tell she was going to grow into a very attractive lady. Maybe syrill too. I've always thought I'd like to see siblings on the tardis. Couples have been done to death
Nah just an extra. He walks past Van Gogh with a radio (wearing a scarf) after they've just got out of the tardis. Doctor tells him to ignore my brother haha. In this scene: ua-cam.com/video/ubTJI_UphPk/v-deo.html He also appears inside the gallery in the next scene but not as obvious.
Great list and fair points as always, but I believe Strax should be considered as a companion by your definition. When he is first introduced, the TARDIS lands next to him and he walks towards it. Granted, we never saw him in the ship, but it’s almost certain that that’s how he got to Demon’s Run. It doesn’t really matter, though, and basically everything else you said I agreed with (except I would place Kate a few spots higher, even with series 9).
Im so glad Harriet Jones was on the list let alone the top. Her character also develops from MP to a Prime Minister to be proud of to the absolute hero she always was. She never thought of herself she thought of the bigger picture. Even when the doctor condemned her she still was by his side to the end even if he despised her actions
I'm not a huge fan of Corden but I like him a fair bit as Craig, he played the character really well and his relationship with his girlfriend and Alfie was so sweet
I love 💕 your Nail Polish 💅! I got distracted in the beginning of the video hahaha. I agree with this list. I absolutely love Vastra and her Gang especially in aiding a good man goes to war episodes and all the earth reptilian sisters Vastra has just show up to support in The Cause to save the Child and Amy.
For classic who the 10 best recurring or memorable side characters would be: 10- Borusa 9- Brigadier Bambera 8- Mags/Ray 7- Counter Measures team ( Chunky Gilmore, Allison and Rachael) 6- Professor Travers 5- Professor Rubish 4- Professor Chronotis 3- Sabalom Glitz 2- Henry Gordon Jago and George Litefoot 1- Brigadier Lethbridge Stewart.
Madame Vastra did technically travel in the TARDIS. Not through time or very far, but in The Snowmen, she and 11 did technically travel in the TARDIS from the House to the Great Intelligence.
That was good. But you probably forgot a few, I think it was Wilfred Mott you left off. Oh not to mention, uh, Jackie Tyler. Will you do a second companion list and talk about the other companions?
Slight argument with your list, while we don't see them enter the TARDIS or inside it, it's established that Strax and Jenny travel with The Doctor in the TARDIS to get from their allotted points in Time and Space to Demons Run, whilst I'm pretty sure that Madame Vastra travels in the TARDIS during The Snowmen to get to the GI headquarters.
To be fair, I think Amy Pond was the Whovian self-insert before Osgood. Everybody who grew up with this show dreamed about the Doctor taking them away.
Glad someone else likes both Danny Pink and Ashildir. I loved Danny Pink for giving Clara more humanity, his friction with the Doctor and great character arc. I think Ashildir took a new approach to an immoral character with some new ideas and concepts and Maise Williams did a great job with the role and greatly challenged and mirrored the Doctor. People often judge her based on her appearance in Hell Bent despite the fact that her character was great in the the girl who died, the Woman who lived and Face the Raven as she dealt with the consequences of immortality.
12:50 definitely the character’s effect on the show. There’s also the fact that he doesn’t have any chemistry with Clara, appears in some of the worst stories of that season, and often makes unnecessary cameos in otherwise good episodes that just seem to stagnate the plot of the episode.
Yeah, this was a really nice list and Harriet was really quite surprising and I was glad that she was there cause it reminded me of this overlooked yet really great character, so thanks for that. But I have to rant on Danny cause I believe that he is not as strong of a spirit as you might think. Personally I quite enjoyed him but that was mostly because Clara liked him and I believed in her judgement to find the partner that was best for her, though he himself didn't really grab me. But then after Death in Heaven I really started hating him and here's why: When given the option to come back to Clara and continue their relationship he instead chooses to redeem himself and calm the demons of his past by resurrecting the boy he'd accidentally killed while on duty. Now I'm obviously not saying that that is not a horrible memory to live with. I'm not saying that he shouldn't have just gotten over it because accidental killing of innocents has got to be the worst thing that a conscientious soldier could do and it causes most terrible guilt and self-persecution for a person (like Craig Boone from Fallout New Vegas who killed multiple Khan civilians during the Bitter Springs Massacre). *However* , being in a relationship and doing what's best for your partner is indefinitely more important in my opinion, as it allows a person to create a better future as opposed to mourning about the past (even if that past is really horrible) and not doing better and greater things. And to me the fact that Danny failed to see such self-evident notion and instead chose to go with the option that appeases him (and the boy's parents if they _happen to still be alive_) as opposed to going with the choice that would indeed cause more pain and grieving for him, but would ultimately lead to more good as he would continue to build his relationship with Clara and potentially even start a family. And that is why I believe that Danny Pink does not deserve to be called "strong-spirited". But that's just my opinion and you may beg to differ. Hopefully this didn't offend anyone.
Have you read "Devil in the Smoke"? It's a Vastra-Jenny-Strax story that's really fun and really nice if you like the characters. Also, the audiobook is read by Dan Starky, who plays Strax, so his Strax voice is awesome :D
I never thought of that for Osgood thank you. Also, does Sarah Jane Smith count as a companion or no because she was a companion in classic Doctor Who?
If you include Van Gogh in your next companion list, you’ll also need to include Agatha Christie because the doctor takes her to Harrogate 9 days after she loses her memory in The Unicorn and The Wasp
Strax isn't your normal sontarin , some where along his story line something happen to change him or he might be an experimental clone batch , never seen a medic sontarin in past or future eras. Jenney has such a joy in being who she is.

Closing time was the funniest episode of season 6
Geo Da Sponge yeah exactly, like what about the aliens who actually invented the tech
(Well, couldn't stay in her case.)
But companion rules are nutty and everyone has their own.
She's boring as HELL though, sorry!
I LOVE Harriet Jones, I think she’s so amazing, I feel bad that I completely forgot her until you said her name
Danny is just Mickey if he stayed as the Tin Dog
And the tin dog could catch some ridiculous air doing flips lol
Kylie Minogue - Astrid Peth should have been a recurring character, Actually she should have been a companion! She was soooo adorable in her role.
I know she was so precious 🥺
I still wanna see Craig's son come back as a future companion
Joshua V. Harding YES PLEASE.
Stormagedon best character
Joshua V. Harding I never considered that, but that would be great.
Let’s hope his dad isn’t dead of obesity-related illness by the time it happens.
Please...God....no....
But otherwise I get you
@@sw3602 Pretty sure they don't have to keep them alive to refresh the image anymore.
I really hope Chibnall brings Kate back. I want her to become the modern version of her father
Same. I don’t care for Osgood, but Kate should appear in future UNIT stories regardless of era.
Not gonna happen
Night Bot She did get name dropped in Resolution
And just like that, chibnall gets rid of UNIT
@@rachelamitrano9094 I know, right? All for a dumb Brexit joke.
Love preventing Cyber-conversion is also not a one time thing, Craig prevented conversion because of his baby, Stormagedan, crying.
I like Craig a lot
ana iglesias I like him cause I like james
Great to see Danny Pink and Jenny so high on this list, I think both are incredibly underrated
I love Jenny so much
"You are the council, I just run the meetings" awww thank you
I liked danny pink.
Agree 100% with all what you said.
Michelle Sloney m
Yes, we know who number one is. :-)
+1 internet for you :)
Strax is only 6
He is HILARIOUS
Do not attempt to escape or you will be obliterated! May I take your coat?
I'm not wearing a coat
@@gryffinclawgymgirls0911
Oh. What's that then?
1: It's Ashildr not Ashislder.
2: She had multiple children and saving just one would have been cruel
3: As the Nightmare she is awesome
BladeOfFlames Productions My bad on the spelling corrected it now. It was more the callous way she came across if she'd given the reason that she considered immortality a curse she didn't want to inflict on anyone else I'd have no issue but she just said "No one was good enough".
Vortex Traveller. Including herself
I’m glad she didn’t return for series 10. I hope they NEVER bring her back.
It started to rain when you mentioned that it was raining, WITCHCRAFT!
Shouldn't Starx count as a companion ?
The Doctor came to pick him with the TARDIS in A Good Man Goes To War
Vastra and Jenny too ^^
I completely agree on #1, I really enjoyed her as a recurring character and always chuckled when she'd go to introduce herself. "Yes, we know who you are" Haha, even the Sycorax knew who she was. I didn't know there was hate for Danny Pink. I liked him a lot and just felt bad for him, as I thought Clara and the Doctor treated him terribly.
James cordon was awesome in 'the wrong mans' and I liked him in Dr who a lot
One thing you may not know is Osgood is also a nod to classic fandom. In 'The Daemons' - one of Pertwee's stories - the Doctor is trapped inside a heat barrier and has to work with the Brigadier's technical fella to create a device to get through. Sergeant Osgood. I very much doubt the name is a co-incidence.
is it possible the sergeant is the father/grandfather of modern Osgood, no the name is NOT a coincident!
I think I just found my new favourite Who-tuber
Harriet Jones would be my top pick. I'm also very glad to see Danny Pink on your list. I loved his character. In fact, the only time I ever really enjoyed Clara was in her interactions with him. Clara henpecked the Doctor (especially #12) mercilessly and took on an annoyingly godlike persona, but with Danny she seemed much more human and vulnerable.
Harriet Jones gets bonus points for being Shawn's Mum
But wouldn't the memebers of the Paternoster Gang count under your definition of companion? They all traveled via the TARDIS in "A Good Man Goes to War," do they not?
He doesn't include that because we never actually seen them in the tardis. We assume it's the only poisible way they could have got there, but we didn't see it sooo
but we literally see Vastra travel in the TARDIS in The Snowmen
@@anthonyjones6870 try rewatching that episode, I recently rewatched it and no she doesn't
You never see them enter nor exit the Tardis or inside the Tardis
@@No1ShalkaFan no I'm referring to a different episode, 'The Snowmen' in which we see vastra enter the TARDIS and travel in it
Harriet Jones!! That scene in the stolen earth makes her my 2nd favourite character ever !!! Yes I know who you are !!!
That's some intense rain.
One word. STRAX!
umm you now he was on the list... right?
And we will MELT HIM WITH ACID
Uh strax??
....and we will n o t. MELT HIM WITH ACID
You're really one of my favorite UA-camrs!
I love the fact you put her first thank you!!!!!
I’m fairly certain that the paternoster gang have traveled with the doctor from the a good man goes to war episode
Edit: wait so do we have to see the people in the tardis or can it be presumed because in the episode the tardis appears in their house and in the next scene they are on the weird military spaceship thing
We have to be 100% certain they were in the TARDIS.
Yeah i think he said in another we have to physically see them in the TARDIS and not just implyed
They are seen in the TARDIS on Trenzalore when the Great Intelligence, Clara, and the Doctor enter the Doctor's timestream
They have to be seen entering, exiting or inside of the Tardis and travel in it so no 'A Good Man Goes to War' and 'The Name of the Doctor' do not count
I vaguely recall mention Petronella Osgood was a twin. Se may have been replaced by her twin sister.
LOVE Harriet!! It's entirely plausible that she talked the daleks out of killing her #BringBackHarriet 😁 Strax is my 2nd, just because he cracks me up. Vastra, Jenny and Osgood round out my top 5. I still think they should do a spin off show with Strax, Vastra and Jenny 😆
look on big finish, they have three stories!
The character of Me is interesting. But Mazie Williams was absolutely awful at portraying it.
I hated her
Her absolute confidence in bossing the Doctor around and basically being perfectly ok with letting Clara die and sending the Doctor into effectiveally TimeLord Hell
She is awful
I... think the reason Kate took such a hit in the zygon episodes was partially due to Clara.
I really like how this list turned out
Can’t believe you didn’t include
Captain Erisa Magambo
*Salutes*
Don't... don't salute.
Where would Vincent have been on the companion list?
not a companion
Re Jenny: Ever since the first doctor and Katarina, the show's writers have struggled to integrate companions from history or from other retrograde societies. Their only real success has been Jamie, mainly by giving him plenty of warrior stuff to do. I'm guessing writers consider the rewards too small to justify the challenge. I've never tried writing a Doctor Who story so I can't imagine how difficult a challenge that is. What I do know is Louise Jameson (Leela) quit the job because the writers side stepped that challenge.
I like *really* like your nail varnish, it's such a pretty colour 😍
my problem with Danny is the plot hole that he leaves. In the future, there is a descendant of Danny, Olsen pink, my question is How does he exist if Danny died before having any children?
Because Danny wasn’t the only member of his family who might have had kids.
fair point
No, it's because timey wimey stuff
Twin brother.
Maybe Danny's death wasn't a fixed point? Alternate future maybe. The doctor was definitely more willing than usual to help try to get him back, even finding him a way to come back. So yh. Time can be re-written on that one..
Hold on, I might be missing something, but what about Captain Avery and his boy and Dorium Maldovar? Was hopin they'd be here.
I'd say yes to Dorium but no to Avery as Avery is a historical figure and I don't really count those
On rewatch I actually really liked Danny. He got some amazing moments. I loved him calling out the Doctor as an 'officer' when they met and his answer to "When did you get so wise?" "Same as anyone else. I had a really bad day." Also him selflessly giving up his chance to live in order to give the boy his life back.
Yeah I think Danny was over-hated at the time. I think he's definitely one of the better developed supporting characters.
Sometimes i skip an Episode of the Season i'm watching. Fathers Day was one of it and i was happy that i saved it for a time without new from who.
You skip one to like save it for later?? I really like that idea
I agree, the problem wasn't her, she was great and had so much potential. It's just the episode didn't take advantage of any of it.
Yuki Nagato But if the human dies, the zygon reverts back to human.
Alright, be sure to get back to me lol
Yuki Nagato I probably will.
Danny Pink was the punching bag that punched back.
Didn't Vastra travel in the TARDIS in The Snowmen?
All the planes around the world have stopped.
"Thats alot of passengers"
"Thats alot of fuel"
Oh god... you're right!"
*SERIOUSLY KATE?!* You thought of the passengers, but not the fuel??!!
My brother was in the Van Gogh episode :)
An extra or somebody with lines?
Nah just an extra. He walks past Van Gogh with a radio (wearing a scarf) after they've just got out of the tardis. Doctor tells him to ignore my brother haha. In this scene: ua-cam.com/video/ubTJI_UphPk/v-deo.html
He also appears inside the gallery in the next scene but not as obvious.
That's pretty dang nifty!
Make another list of character the travel in the Tardis that aren't really companions'
Well those would be the one-time companions, which I did a list of years back. I'll have to rewatch that to see if I feel it's worth revisiting.
Strax traveled once in the TARDIS, in a Good Man Goes To War, and Vastra twice, once in a Good Man Goes To War and The Snowmen Christmas special.
Great list. I liked Danny too. Strax and Vastra would be at the top of my list, followed by Harriet. But this list is great.
Didn't all 3 of the Paternoster Gang travel in the TARDIS during A Good Man Goes to War?
They have to be seen entering, exiting or inside of the Tardis none of them apply for 'A Good Man Goes to War'
I'm not a huge fan of Corden but I like him a fair bit as Craig, he played the character really well and his relationship with his girlfriend and Alfie was so sweet
Jenny Strax and Vastra all travelled in the tardis off trenzalore in time of the doctor so they are companions!
Also earlier in a good man goes to war,
I liked Graig very much too. 11th and him are so cutsey together
For classic who the 10 best recurring or memorable side characters would be:
10- Borusa
9- Brigadier Bambera
8- Mags/Ray
7- Counter Measures team ( Chunky Gilmore, Allison and Rachael)
6- Professor Travers
5- Professor Rubish
4- Professor Chronotis
3- Sabalom Glitz
2- Henry Gordon Jago and George Litefoot
1- Brigadier Lethbridge Stewart.
i'm sorry, what?
Hmm I pretty much agreed with all this. You're damned right about Danny. Great character, really solid moral core.
To be fair, I think Amy Pond was the Whovian self-insert before Osgood. Everybody who grew up with this show dreamed about the Doctor taking them away.
I was the same age as young Amy, *not Karen her Cousin* and never have I agreed so hard!!!
A well-argued list.
The simple answer is the brigader
It's classic like he said
the brig is a companion
wrong, the brig is a companion, more of a companion than any modern one!
Vastra, Jenny, and Straxx are my favorites.
I was super pissed when they killed Danny. I was like "nooooo, take Clara instead"!
But then after Death in Heaven I really started hating him and here's why:
When given the option to come back to Clara and continue their relationship he instead chooses to redeem himself and calm the demons of his past by resurrecting the boy he'd accidentally killed while on duty.
Also, does Sarah Jane Smith count as a companion or no because she was a companion in classic Doctor Who?
yes
Where’s Wilfred? He’s one of the best imo
Mad the Monk he’s technically a companion
Mad the Monk he traveled in the tardis, got second place in the companion list
Greg Hawkins Ah alright never mind 😂
He travelled in the TARDIS in the end of time
Mad the Monk He is a companion really
No Jackie? :(
nightowl she was on his other list as she traveled in the Tardis
If you include Van Gogh in your next companion list, you’ll also need to include Agatha Christie because the doctor takes her to Harrogate 9 days after she loses her memory in The Unicorn and The Wasp
She only appeared in one episode through. Vincent had a second appearance in Wedding of River Song.
Council of Geeks No it was Winston Churchill and Charles Dickens who appeared in TWORS , Van Gogh’s cameo was in The Pandorica Opens.
Yes but the important point was a second appearance, not the specific episode.
Council of Geeks point taken.
By the way, did you remember Henry Avery (I can’t seem to find your companion video)
