If you notice, Penn blocks our view for just a little bit after the boxes are pulled apart. That would give her the opportunity to slide out. There are railings there, that are probably only there to help support her weight when that happens. There's also a point before that where her head disappears into the box and all we see is her hair. This would indicate that she exits feet first.

There are two really flexible people twins probs, and the woman on the left is putting her legs in a secret compartment and the one on the right is Bending her head in a secret compartment (secret compartments might be the stands of the platforms)

When Penn pulls her apart he triggers something with his left leg that opens a hole in the backdrop for her to crawl through. Here they have it easier as there is a close up of Teller as she is crawling out. Penn walking round the back is him checking she is out otherwise he'd pad some more. She fixes her hair puts her shoes on then comes back on.
There is two women in each side of the box. One has their head out and the other has their feet out. The screams and guts are fake. It's that simple people..
They didn't reveal how other magicians do it, they did it the same way EVERY magician does it. Two separate women, two separate boxes. One woman is in the leg end of the boxes before the magicians arrive on stage and the other just tucked her knees when she gets in to the head end of the boxes.
