Fallopian tube!😂😂 I love how much there is packed into the movie. At first glance the parents seem dismissive, but then you realize that they're over stressed. Accident, moving, all while a couple of large work deadlines are coming, and Coraline is just a needy, bored child lol. The Russian is wearing a real medal that was given to people who helped with Chernobyl clean up (you know that meltdown that has a show based on it that someone is waiting for you to react to 😂). It explains some of his behavior and looks?
Ahhhh interesting!! And Chernobyl? Not familiar. :) Yeah you’re right about the challenges the family is going through. When you see from the parents’ perspective, it changes things. I heard a funny comedian the other day talking about revisiting the movie Annie as an adult, and how she sees Miss Hannigan in a whole new light now. She’s just trying to get some sleep while 50 little girls are putting on a full musical at 2am about what a b*tch she is. LOL
@@DavidvsFilmChernobyl is a real place in Ukraine! In the 80s a nuclear power plant had a massive explosion and the entire area was abandoned because it’s so radioactive. Chernobyl liquidators (I think they’re called?) were people called to try and deal with it, Bobinsky the Russian mouse man wears a badge that was given to the Chernobyl liquidators. People make theories about what this implies lol
I was really hoping you'd say " Button Mother's got it all buttoned up" , but I'm just proud of myself for coming up with that after a couple of my own versions of Peach Tea,lol
I have been stalking your channel since Monday waiting for Coraline to drop! I love it 💙 Your reaction was hilarious (I'll always think of the connecting tunnel as Fallopian tubes from now on 🤣) I love the spooky charm from this movie. Coraline and The Nightmare Before Christmas had the same director and I think you can really see their similarities in style. Definitely creepy though! I know alot of adults who won't even watch this movie! Another recommendation in this style is '9'. It has that creepy/Burton feel to it, though I believe he was only a producer. Other recommendations, Stardust, which I feel like I've heard you mention before that you've seen, but in case you haven't, it is another one from Neil Gaiman. Also, Big Fish by Tim Burton, not really a dark movie, but more whimsical with Burton type storytelling and characters!
Aww bless your heart, thank you!!! You are killing it with this comment!! Taking the points one by one.. Ok so some background on where fallopian tube came from- in the moment, it just reminded me of the beginning of Look Who’s Talking, if you ever saw that movie lol. About Coraline as a whole though, I ADORED this movie!! Would easily watch again. And I really like your description of “a charm”! If you don’t mind, I’d like to borrow that incorporate it into the title of the video. Regarding Stardust, you are 100% right- I big heart that movie. It’s probably in my Top 5. The music at the end during the finale is just so, so good. I blast it in the car like a nerd from time to time. I don’t know when, but I really want to get Big Fish on the channel soon. Maybe around Christmas time. Thank you again so much!! ♥️
@@DavidvsFilm I don't mind you using spooky charm at all! I've already taken screenshots to commemorate 🥰 I have seen Look Who's Talking, but I forgot all about the look of the Fallopian tube lol! Well, now when I watch Coraline, I'll think of that and inadvertently sing the Beach Boys 😆
I remember reading Coraline by Neil Gaiman it was such a crazy read and loved. I love how they did stop motion animated to make this movie. It reminds of Nightmare Before Christmas vibe. For a kid's movie is kind of scary and I love it. I still have the book on my bookcase. I should re-read it again.
This movie is creepy but cute too. The technical nature of stop motion is amazing. They can take several days just to shoot a couple of seconds of film. There once was a display from The Nightmare Before Christmas at Disney Studios. The figures are Mitch larger than they appear. They use several “emotional” heads that get replaced and calibrated to have continuity. These movies should get awards on how complicated they are. Fun review!!!
Totally agree!! They really are works of art. That’s when I feel like a yahoo- they’re spending months/years working on this amazing film, probably weeks on the tunnel alone, and I go calling it a fallopian tube.
One of my favorite aspects of this film is how the growing sense of foreboding and the possible consequences of temptation are alluded to with the music. The first time Coraline goes through the tunnel the music is filled with this sense of wonder and magic. The 2nd time she opens the door the tunnel still looks beautiful and enticing but the music gives a more mischievous tone but still playful. That's when she gets stuck in the other world. Then, when her and the cat are going back to rescue her parents, the door opens and it's full of decay and webs, and there is no music playing. Meaning this is absolutely no longer safe. And finally when the ghost children help her shut the door, breaking the Beldam's hand, the music is triumphant but that feeling of victory is disrupted rather violently with my favorite "jumpscare" of the film: when the Beldam barges at the door screaming "don't leave me! I'll die without you!" Begging and pleading to trick Coraline in a last ditch effort to consume her soul. I also think in that moment she (Beldam) is really and truly scared for her survival. There's so much more I could go on about but I'll leave it there for now. This film really captivated me the first time I watched it (18 at the time) wonderful magical trippy Terrifying stuff! Hats off to Laika studios. All of their stop motion films are amazing! 👏
I laughed myself to tears when you mentioned going to town with a seam ripper lol. As a costumer that was what we used to remind the actors we worked for if they ever got out of line. All we need is one of these or a pair of scissors and you are on your own lol. And trust me we saved some student during live shows they knew we had the power. I need to revisit this one, its one of those films I enjoyed but never went back to see like FRANKENWEENIE. I think this one hits close to home because I still have that yearning to find or make the family I want and it all comes back to kiddo and I. My dream family was the 60's Addams Family or Munsters, no surprise lol. Glad you enjoyed this one and wishing Mark the best, its a busy week for me as well and ready for the weekend.
Thank you so much for the great comment as always!! Hope you guys are doing well. :) And lol about the seam ripper and the students. Yeah part of why there’s such a void in my movie watching is because I was definitely more of a tv junkie. And I loved classic reruns so I watched Addams Family and Munsters too. Though I would say I was probably more of a Munsters man.
Yes! You're the only other person that's called the tunnel a fallopian tube! Thank you. I feel vindicated🙌🏻🤣 Fantastic reaction as always. Coraline is one of my favourite films and you really did it justice❤
Aww thank you so much!! Haha the tunnel totally reminded me of the opening of Look Who’s Talking (though the comparison between this amazing work of art and that movie ends there lol). I’m so grateful you watched my video!

Ooh I would love to see you react to ParaNorman and Corpse Bride! I am a scaredy cat and can barely watch actual horror movies, so movies like those and Nightmare Before Christmas are more my speed. A little creepy but not enough that I won't be able to sleep or be paranoid lol Btw your puns/comparisons are top-tier for me and absolutely what I needed after my day today.
Happy Movie Wednesday, David! 🎃 Great reaction! This is one of my favorite Halloween animated movies. I most recently found out that this was based off of a book. The true ending is Coraline didn’t win. She thinks she defeated the Bedlam but she didn’t. She is stuck in the Pink Palace Limbo. When she drops the key down the well, The Bedlam is waiting for the key to used it again on the next victim. Everyone who had button eyes is a puppet of the Bedlam, including the ghost children. One piece of evidence that she lost is when the cat disappears. It shows the world Coraline is in is a lie.
