I was just reading about how the Curt hitch is the one to get if you like your rear frame intact. Other tow bars are destroying some user's mounting locations. The Curt has the best mounting solution.
Yeah man I like the hitch a lot. It feels very sturdy and pulls my trackday trailer nicely. Trailer is probably around 500 lbs loaded down. I feel bad I accidentally removed a different comment when I meant to hit “reply” instead.
I would deff recommend this hitch to anyone serious about towing something more than a couple hundred pounds. Tongue weight is rated at 200lbs IIRC so should be more than enough to tow a teardrop trailer. For what it’s worth my car has a 2.5L swap, and Towed the 500ish lbs very well. Not sure if I would want to try a teardrop trailer with a stock 2.0L though.
This vid helps a lot dude. Just bought one of these second hand and sourcing some of the hardware myself. lol. Also gonna do some work to make this fit an appearance package with an aftermarket diffuser
Glad I can help! I have seen them pop up used occasionally with no hardware too. I was tempted once but just decided to go new for simplicity. It was a pretty quick install. I had good luck towing my trackday trailer with it too. Feels very sturdy. Goodluck and thanks for watching the video!
got a 2006 miata NC. was told never tow anything, but don't think so myself. no expert, but was going to convert a jet ski trailer for my kakak, until seeing it pop up online saying mazda says ZERO towing in NC. is it safe? thanks ..again no further than i go, feel like the car is capable
I think it’s safe. Just can’t tow much weight. If you keep total trailer weight below around 700 lbs I think you can tow as much as you want. I towed 500-ish lbs about 10 hours round trip to a track and back last year. I did notice the coolant temps spike a little bit going through Chicago, but it was rush hour slow traffic and I had the A/C cranked going like 25 mph (humid, 85 degree day). That was my only issue at all the entire trip, and my car makes more heat than your average stock Miata.
