Monstro town is one of those locations in rpgs that I really like, where you see monsters just chillin in their own setting. Dragon Quest does this on occasion mostly with slimes but other monsters join in too and Chrono Trigger also does it in a couple spots.
5:02 Wait, the Goomba at the store is Goomhilde??? I was completely unaware of that tidbit of deep Mario RPG lore, that's incredible. Also, I love when they show Bowser to have a heart of gold deep down inside!
That's a detail added to the remake, so the unique Goomba shown in the sequence at Rose Way is indeed the one you find at Monstro Town, to coincide with the unique name that this Goomba had in japanese. EDIT: I meant Rose Way, but my brain said Booster Pass, I don't know why.

That scene with Bowser and Goomhilde shows that Bowser might actually be a pretty good guy if he weren't so obsessed with kingdom-conquering and kidnapping this one princess ad-nauseam.
Those mushrooms that the little goombas sell are a little different if you eat one in battle you do recover 30 HP but you turn into a mushroom so don't use them in battle
It's no Onigashima/Oni Island for sure. It doesn't need to be a generic "evil den of monsters"; there are too many of those already. Monstro Town is just a place where monsters work, sleep and play like in any old hub town in an RPG. It's a relaxing change from the normal way enemies interact with you, in a Mario game or otherwise. My favorite part of Monstro Town has to be the inn where a Shy Guy ghost, a Boo, and a Dry Bones whisper a strange, yet profitable, side quest into your ears. That is something you CAN NOT get anywhere else, not in any RPG let's play that I've seen anyway.
The thing with that ominous door is that this remake intends on the player besting it BEFORE they beat Smithy even though as it is it's quite tough. This is because beating it before Smithy and then finding it again will lead to something crazier. 6:00 Goomhilde may not be able to do much against Smithy the way he is, however even a good merchant is critical to a hero's success. This tidbit along with the soldier captains having names gives a huge breath of life to Bowser's army. 14:40 Oh I guess knowing this is a strong item that players would not have gotten normally they made sure to lock it from being sold. It could also be that the Ghost Medal was only something Mario could see and it can't be sold since it's invisible to everyone else.
About that the 2D/NORMAL form Culex has is beatable BEFORE you get the 6th star in the Volcano dungeon SINCE the Lazy shell armor on Peach makes that boss harmless for its 3D rematch still equip it ANYWAYS even though it has 2 FP cost moves that CAN still kill the Lazy shell armor user instantly. While its 2D/NORMAL form CAN run out of FP for the 3D rematch only the 4 Crystals can run out of FP while 3D form of it can't its FP is infinite and he has 9999 HP but for the 3D rematch the 4 Crystals MUST DIE before Culex does.
But you don't need to beat it before Smithy in order to find it and encounter it again. I only successfully beat the boss after Smithy and was still able to get the second encounter. So the way Masae's doing it right now is perfectly fine.
1:34 Speaking from experience, as someone who’s played this game twice, the hardest part is keeping your eyes open for that long. 14:33 Maybe the Ghost Medal is now invisible, just like the flags.
Anyone know if the three ghosts say anything special if you sleep after finding only 1 or 2 of the flags? I assume they just repeat their hints or something

i tried for 100 super jumps. both in the original and this remake. i still haven't managed it. godspeed to anyone who does it!
The Three Musty Fears seem like such nice ghosts!
Mario doesn't automatically stop a Super Jump upon depleting an enemy's health. I got to 100 on a basic Goomba when almost at the endgame.

The status buff of the ghost medal can only be removed by the shredder move, which can only be done by the superboss or the final boss.
Monstro Town is nice, I'll always like Seaside Town more though. The three musty fears are nice ghosts, they just want to have fun.
