Justin, for anyone's age you did an excellent job! You explained what you were doing which is very difficult for some people. You were clear, concise and more to the point, you knew what you were talking about! For someone that has been turning for such a very short period of time you did a fantastic job. The lines on your chevron line up, the segments are the same size. I know a guy that recently tried a chevron pattern and have been turning for 32 years, his segmented bowl was all ver the place like a dogs dinner... You will get comments about this and that, about what you should do and not do. The hardest part is to know who to listen to? It doesn't take an idiot to know that anything with teeth is dangerous and you use caution and no short cuts, and your not an idiot wise you wouldn't be building beautiful bowls. Well done! Cheers Sean
I had never thought of using a card scraper for turning. What a great tip. I will try it on my next bowl. I like your narration for your videos. Keep up the good work.
Justin, I have looked at your earlier videos and I was very impressed at your determination to find a way to do what you wanted. I am very happy that you now have a lathe and are able to expand what you can do. This bowl is absolutely beautiful! You have come a very long way since you started. Keep pressing forward, be safe and have fun! You have a natural gift!
Oh my gosh! That bowl is marvelous, Justin! It's nice to see how confident you are getting with your tools. You've come a long way since the ornament! Keep up the good work! All the best, Peter
A beautiful bowl Justin, well explained and executed, you have a lot of talent young man. A very well produced video as well, a thoroughly enjoyable watch :) Take care Mike
Beautiful piece Justin. You are a really good craftsman. Thanks for teaching us the segmented art of wood working. I really appreciate the time you took to make this video.
Nice job Justin. The comments about the tablesaw are spot on. You might consider doing some of your resawing on the bandsaw. Overall a great video and a cool project. Be safe and have fun. Take care. Stevr
Steve Lindsley Thanks Steve. Yeah I will definitely try it and see how my cuts come out. . I have to practice some more on my bandsaw with re-sawing and then I will definitely make the switch.
Very nice work~you explained very well and the video is very good too. I am new to this, but cannot wait to try something like yours! Thank you for your share.
Justin "OUTSTANDING" This is a very good piece of wood turning and a great project .You have done a great job and the piece is aesthetically pleasing and very artistic. You have indeed show us your skill and I see you have got the ability to go further in wood turning. It was a long wait for your video but well worth it Good work keep it up Justin.
Now that is one amazing bowl Justin, the whole video was a real pleasure to watch. Great instructions on how you created your bowl. You almost had me fooled into thinking I could do it :-) Fantastic work. All the best Tony
Very nice work Justin, super for how long you have been turning.Nice to see new blood coming into turning, dis regard most of the negative comments, your no fool, just thing about it before you act,[ saw cutting ] and keep going. must be cold in your shop( big jackets) never like that in N Z . take care mate
Justin, really nice bowl you have there. Some advice I'd like to give you, when your video first started you were cutting timber on the table saw and you were using a guard, I thought that's great that someone is finally showing some sense because they are there for a reason, then I see you cutting timber without the guard. As Lou VanDyne stated, FINGERS DO NOT GROW BACK !!!!!!. Your enthusiasm is inspiring, I'd hate for you to have a bad experience and not be able to do what you appear to love doing.
Ross Gabriel Thanks you guys for the concern! the reason i was not using a guard was the segments kept getting stuck against the blade. i know that the risk is high of cutting of fingers. That is why i invested in my heath and safety and bought a Saw Stop. this will give me an extra barrier of protection in that just in case moment. The saw in the video is that saw. I am always conscious to use the most guard as possible( full guard or riving knife) and will continue. I know that I still have to be careful and I still will follow all safety precautions as with any other table saw.
justin fiaschetti Great to hear you have a Saw Stop, didn't want you to think I was getting all negative on you, just seen too many fingers and hands lost over the years as a wood machinist and cabinet maker and when I see folks not using a guard it makes me cringe. Good luck and hope to see more of your work and videos.
Very pretty bowl. Please watch the video by The Wyoming Woodturner on his accident on his tablesaw. Fingers do not grow back. Just a suggestion. You did a nice job on the bowl, hope to see more of your work.
I liked the scraper idea. Check the grub screw on the Nova II (top middle pulley on spindle). I've found it can work loose when turn large/heavy stock on a midi lathe.
Justin GREAT job on this bowl. I came here from Carl's channel. You're learning fast Man! I SUBBED & LIKED. I gotta clean and organize my shop so I can put some vids up! I'm actually inspired by your determination! Have A Supper Blessed Week!.....Gus
I really like the bowl and your video editing techniques, very happy that Frank Howarth recommended your site, a terrific find in my opinion. You do a very good job of explaining your workflow and have given me some ideas to try. Thanks for sharing, Gord
James Nelson Ross Gabriel Thanks you guys for the concern! the reason i was not using a guard was the segments kept getting stuck against the blade. i know that the risk is high of cutting of fingers. That is why i invested in my heath and safety and bought a Saw Stop. this will give me an extra barrier of protection in that just in case moment. The saw in the video is that saw. Hey Fella, that’s a fine looking bowl. You have mad skills. I think I got tetanus when I saw your bench plane though. Maybe it was the light or the camera, but that poor piece of equipment could use some steel wool and a little WD-40. Take good care of your equipment and it will last you a lifetime. But once again, that is a superior bowl. Keep making the videos.
Really nice work. I would like to caution you though about using the table saw. At 10:40 you cleaned an end grain (cross cutting) against the fence. Not a good or recommended practice. Then when you did rip it, the piece was wider than it was long. Probably would have been safer with a miter gauge. Too easy to get a kick back. Lastly, try to keep at least half of the gullet between the teeth of the blade above the material. It helps the blade disperse heat. You had some serious burn marks on that purple heart. Work safe, you definitely have talent.
Make sure you never wear long sleeves while turning it is very dangers Young man I Have been a wood turner for over 45 years But i must say that bowl is absolutely lovely keep up the good work
+Rai Turner there is no need for Language like that it just goes to show how on educated you are you really should go back to school and Study the English language you Moron^
Wow. Amazing bowl. Purple Heart is one of my favourite woods and it looks magnificent here. You are very talented. I think I’ll just have to subscribe.
Instead of unchucking the bowl each time you added a segmented layer you should get a tapered threaded taper that fits into your tailstock and mount a flat-jawed chuck that you can mount a centered segmented layer using your tailstock to press it to the preceded layer.
Win Michaels thanks for the concern, some of the cuts are unavoidable. i cannot but the guard on because the segments will get stuck in it and kick back. i have thought about the loss of a finger and it scars the SH#t out of me and that is why i invested in a sawstop.
First of all this glue sound is very annoying just like a fart 💨 and second you seem like you’re doing this for first time it’s not that hard and complicated as you doin it I don’t know why you do this i do in a much easier way and also I’ve seen that everyone doin it just as easy as i do
Justin, for anyone's age you did an excellent job! You explained what you were doing which is very difficult for some people. Wow, you really knocked it out the park with that.
I like the sound effects too, made me chuckle!
Fiaschetti it is a stunning breathtakingly beautiful and awesome bowl. The purple heart wood is so very beautiful.
Great job Justin!!! Awesome to see such an awesome bowl from a new turner!!! Can't wait to see what you turn next!!!
Great job Justin! Beautiful bowl!

Great job. I learned a lot about the pattern.
You are so very talented thanks 😊
Beautiful result!

This is a really nice piece of work! it gave me a couple of really cool design ideas. nice work man!
It’s good to be scared. It keeps you safe. 😎👍🏻
Great job on the bowl. Watch much Frank Howarth videos? He is a great teacher !

Fantastic Bowl! Great Job!!
Beautiful.
Wow, i defenitly want to get into segmented turning!
Great video! Thanks for sharing it.

You did a nice job on the bowl, hope to see more of your work.
Thanks for the suggestion! I'll take a look at it!
Keep up the good work buddy. You'll go far.
Nice job. I'm a new turner so I have a long way to go before I am good...
Very nicely done! Fantastic Job
Thank you! The lathe worked fantastically!
I liked the scraper idea. Check the grub screw on the Nova II (top middle pulley on spindle). I've found it can work loose when turn large/heavy stock on a midi lathe.
I took a look and it was slightly loose! Thanks for the suggestion!
Great bowl

Awesome job great video
Beautiful bowl and very impressively done! Great finish too! Thumbs up. :-)
Charlie Zellner Thank You! the finish was giving me some issues in the beginning but I over came them with a bunch of sandpaper! :)
I really like the bowl and your video editing techniques, very happy that Frank Howarth recommended your site, a terrific find in my opinion. You do a very good job of explaining your workflow and have given me some ideas to try. Thanks for sharing, Gord
I've never seen anyone use a scraper on the lathe. Interesting idea.
Yeah it works well. Great replacement for an actual scraper tool.
Fantastic work mate , love it NZ
NZ WoodTurning
Subbed. Great talent, thanks for sharing!
Very cool nice job
Great job Justin and yes please check out that video on the tablesaw accident. He did it doing the same kind of cutting you were doing.
James Nelson Ross Gabriel Thanks you guys for the concern! the reason i was not using a guard was the segments kept getting stuck against the blade. i know that the risk is high of cutting of fingers. A WELL MADE BOWL

friend, I recommend that you do or buy a roughing gouge, will make your job easier!!!
Really nice work. I would like to caution you though about using the table saw. At 10:40 you cleaned an end grain (cross cutting) against the fence. Not a good or recommended practice. It is amazing congratulations. How much does a bowl like that cost?
Nice work! I would use a wedgie sled instead of that poor inaccurate miter gauge to cut segments. You will never have to sand a half ring again.
Love the glue sound effects!
Wow. Amazing bowl. Purple Heart is one of my favourite woods and it looks magnificent here. You are very talented. I think I’ll just have to subscribe.
Very informative and a nice video but your audio was up and down. Hard to set the volume.
That is one beautiful bowl! What are your plans for it?
красавчик! все грамотно сделал
My pup was not sure what to think about your wiping up the glue sound.
Lindo!
I loved your video, but I could show the degrees of the angles when I cut the segments
Instead of unchucking the bowl each time you added a segmented layer you should get a tapered threaded taper that fits into your tailstock and mount a flat-jawed chuck that you can mount a centered segmented layer using your tailstock to press it to the preceded layer.
Tom Antrim that is a great idea. Where could I get this taped treaded thing?
I ordered mine from Grizzly. I have a MT-2 taper 8 threads per inch and paid around $30 for it. The flat die centers the segment layer.
If you make all the segments first you can chuck up the flat jaw chuck on the spindle side and dress both sides of all the segment first.
T27592 CHUCK REVERSING ADAPTER 1"-8 PITCH-#2 MT I looked up the part number
+Tom Antrim this is great. Thank you.
If I may ask, how much did the Purpleheart cost just for that bowl?
Definitely a student of Frank Howarth...
a wilyyyyy
"Rai Trurner" is a propaganda channel. Use caution.
+Robert Cornelius
Who are you talking to? There were only two of us and neither one of us said anything about whatever you were talking about.
Joe Roesler....NO DOUBT a Howarth student !
Please come back 😢😢😢😭
If you kep using your table saw in the the fashion you did in the video , you'll be missing some fingers soon.
Win Michaels thanks for the concern, some of the cuts are unavoidable. i cannot but the guard on because the segments will get stuck in it and kick back. i have thought about the loss of a finger and it scars the SH#t out of me and that is why i invested in a sawstop.
Man, you could have made 2 bowls with all the wasted wood and glue. it looks pretty, but pay some caution to waste material.
Yo....Dude! You use WAY too much glue!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Fix your audio. First it's too quiet, so I turned it up and then it sounds like your screaming.
Mr. Critique i agree
This kid is good. Uses too much math and geometry however. Lol 👍😯😃
Why make a bowl? When you can make a TROMPO. And have fun.
cecil williams what is a trompo?
Trompo = Whipping Top
your audio was inconsistant
P.s. Don't pay too much heed to the safety police on here. Your obviously no idiot. So just trust your gut. If it feels right it's fine.
First of all this glue sound is very annoying just like a fart 💨 and second you seem like you’re doing this for first time it’s not that hard and complicated as you doin it I don’t know why you do this i do in a much easier way and also I’ve seen that everyone doin it just as easy as i do
