patricia was only 23 when she sang this!! she was at her peak with this performance! i doubt if any other soprano had such a fantastic voicefor one so young!!

this performance by the late, beautiful 7 extremely talented patricia, was one of her finest offerings! one could see & hear that she was nearly the finished article in both her singing & acting & it is tragic she is not on this earth today to demonstrate that ability!! there should be a book, documentary, musical & film made about patricia! i'm sure a compilation cd/dvd must be in the pipeline, which would include, 'once upon a time in the west', 'mein lippen', 'mein herr marqis', 'pie jesu', 'summertime' & 'think of me' + 'the doll song' & this piece!

the late, fantastically beautiful & talented patricia janeckova was not a stereo typical opera singer to my eyes & ears!! not a buxom, mid 30's woman with a loud wagnerian voice, patricia was young & slim, with a lilting, powerful voice, which was essentially a musical instrument! in this song, she is only accompanied by a pianist & it is obvious she could sing acapella with no problem, as she proved when she sang, 'silent night'!
there should be a book, documentary, stage musical & a film made about her life story! we live in an 'AI' age, so everything is possible!!i'm sure a compilation album could be released with maybe 30 of her best songs included, possibly chosen by her fans!! just my opinion!
patricia's version is by far the best of all the versions on you tube!!!!
if she was still alive today & there was an event for vocal gymnastics at this year's olympics in paris, patricia would be favourite for the gold medal!!!

A while ago I spent an evening on Spotify listening to many other sopranos, some very famous, singing this aria. None came close to Patricia's delightfully mischievous interpretation or matched her amazing musicality. She will surely be remembered as THE voice of our generation.
Unlike many other great sopranos Patricia looks so natural when she sings. The pleasure of watching her is comparable with the pleasure of hearing her voice. No doubt, she is a great actress, too.
The fact she sang in an empty baroque venue for virtually nobody makes it a little weird but at the end even more charming and admirable, I would say . This record is an internet's hidden treasure ;)

Listened to quite a few other sopranos singing this piece.
Our magnificent Janečková is,
when compared, next level.
Robbi, a few weeks ago I invested a couple of hours in listening to other performances on Spotify - and you're dead right. Some have thin voices, without Patricia's gorgeous richness and fullness of tone. Others shriek rather than sing the high notes and/or have a wide wobble. And none, none at all, catch the spirit of the piece like PJ does with this delightfully mischievous interpretation. Apart from the beautiful singing, it's the sparkle in her eyes and the little grin that plays around her lips.

Even the slightest turn will change the incoming light on the facets, creating a new, unseen before, breathtaking hue of colours . . .
Just listen/look at that performance, at that interpretation. A woman born to grace the world's opera stages. Best wishes for your recovery (2022-11-09).

patricia was only 23 when she sang this! she was on the verge of a blossoming, magnificent career when she was diagnosed with breast cancer! after a year recovering, she began singing & acting again & then went onto be married late last summer but i think she knew at this point that the cancer had returned & she would not recover from it! sadly she died on the first of october!
patricia deserves her name up in lights & should be remembered not quickly forgotten!
a book, documentary, stage show & film should be made about her - it wouldn't be hard, thanks to the many videos available on you tube! a cd/dvd would not be hard to produce - a 30 track album, with her best songs chosen by her fans would not be hard to put together! also, maybe an album, whereby all the songs sung by pj are in english, could be released in the uk!!

patricia's version of this song is far superior to all the other soprano singers because she made it sound lighter than the usual bellowed versions sung by buxom near 40yo's!!!!
this song shows just what a great singer & actress patricia was & should have been the springboard to a sparkling career but sadly she died far too soon!!
