I'm an atheist but this music can make me (a man) cry (with happiness) as also can the final "Amen". A sublime exposition of the best of the human genius, makes me optimistic despite all the inhumanity we see around us.
Have to disagree on that one. The speed is way too fast. Handel wrote it for 76 while this one is 118. I know he wrote it a bit too slow but this is overkill hahaha
Bravo Sydney! Vielen Dank an Chor, Orchester und an den Dirigenten. Sehr eindrucksvoll! Wunderschöne Darbietung und Interpretation dieses Meisterwerks!
Wer seid ihr? : „Cantillation comprises Australia's finest professional choristers under the direction of Australian conductor Antony Walker and manager Alison Johnston“
For me, it's the soprano voices that makes this song. So crisp, so beautiful, so angelic. Just something about them I can't quite explain. They have this kind of power or something. Anybody know what I'm trying to say?
One of my alltime favorite Christmas songs. This one really is super fast but I like it better than the slower versions; it brings across the song's joyous exuberance even more. The quality of the audio and video is superb and the conductor is just a delight to watch. Just makes one feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
This verse has caught my attention this year especially. Handel wrote under an unction of the Spirit. Hera this, "unto us". God gave His most precious gift unto all mankind. What have we done with Him? We could review all the blasphemies over the lst 2000 years. But no. May we receive the One who is wonderful, counselor, the mighty God, the everlasting father, the prince of peace. And He, Jesus, is more!! May we each receive more and more of Him. Enjoyed this version very much.
There is the spark. Good pace! Better faster than the way too slow versions I have seen, which get lost in the first stretches! Here is a rhythm, almost a musette you can dance to. Joy expressed.
My all time favorite Christmas song...l always feel so full joy listening to it...May you all have blessed Christmas and be filled with the Holy Spirit
merry Christmas! birthday of Jesus the Savior of the world He loves you sooo much more than you can ever imagine have a wonderful day God bless you and your family
Penetrating singing voices recalled me a young days when I was a member of choir in church.I love this tune, especially tempo of this performance. Thank you ! Merry Christmas !
I've seen a lot of film in my 60 yrs about 8000 Films and this 4 minutes of Handel is directed so SUBLIMELY that my heart aches watching it-It is one of the loveliest most exquisite 4 mins of music, editing, direction and overall artistry that I have ever seen and all I can say to ALL concerned is a GIANT MAHALO AND ALOHA!
I was born in Haeme. It is a county in Finland, where the slowest men have been born from time to time. Still I prefer this fast version best of all versions I have found in UA-cam. Not only fastness, also all other musical articulation and voices hit my soul in a pleasant way.
Really superb clarity and precision at the perfect tempo. An outstanding performance. I do wish they hadn't omitted the tympani - this seems to happen often in performances in churches.
I remember this from college choir as one of the most difficult vocal pieces - funny, because I can't stand listening to it, but it was really fun to sing! (I'm a soprano.)
In regards to the fast tempo: Jan Peter Larsen in his article "Handelian Tempo Problems and Messiah" states Handel "wanted to have his music performed in what we would call very quick tempi...Everything points to the fact that excessive slowness has been the besetting sin of most Handel performances"
It isn't just Handel - slow tempi are a problem besetting performances of 'classical' composers (in the broadest sense) from Bach to Faure and beyond. Karajan's dominance of the golden age of recording has a lot to do with it, but so does the mid-20C perception of 'classical' music as necessarily dignified and a bit stuffy. But my god, the objections to Messiah in its early days due to its perceived excessive excitement and joy...! Bring back the delight.
Maestro Anthony Walker once conducted the Selangor Philharmonic Choir in collaboration with the National Symphony Orchestra of Malaysia in Haydn's Die Schopfung which was a tremendous success, thanks not a little to his instructive, learned and inspirational coaching. Amazing man.
So beautiful! But maybe a little bit to fast. At last it is the merry message of the birth of Jesus Christ. Therefore no hecticness is necessary, or is it? I love the violins at 3:20 most. Händel is the greatest melody inventor of all time. He was blessed by god without doubt.
This is it! I have searched for this video - it is perfection! Not too many voices nor instruments and the tempo is as this piece should be. Who is performing?
We are singing this song in my Church Choir and I'm an Alto, so although I liked this video it was very difficult to tell the difference between the Alto's and Soprano's
i think they can handle the fast tempo beautifully. some may like a slower one, i doo, too. but this version is just too wonderful to be hated... i personally love it
I'm an atheist but this music can make me (a man) cry (with happiness) as also can the final "Amen". A sublime exposition of the best of the human genius, makes me optimistic despite all the inhumanity we see around us.
This performance gives me chills everytime...perfect speed, perfectly executed 👏🏼 best version
Yeah ... You're right. It's done at a perfect speed with precision and clarity. Wow.
Have to disagree on that one. The speed is way too fast. Handel wrote it for 76 while this one is 118. I know he wrote it a bit too slow but this is overkill hahaha
xd
Agree 100% on the chills. Especially those soprano voices. Just amazing. I never get tired of hearing this.
Makes me feel so good to be a Christian.
I agree with you
Rejoice!
Yes, me too.
I agree with you too
by far the best version of this song here on UA-cam... wow
Yes! I listen to this every advent...
What the name of the Conductor!
Anthony Walker
Watching the conductor makes me so happy.
You can tell this song was inspired by God. It's as close to perfection as you can get down here in this World.
Each and everyone to their own over the tempo. Sounds just right to me. Nice, sharp and crisp. Well done to the choir and musicians.
Love it. This is a good speed. Too many performance are slow and tired. This has real drive and energy.
What a happy conductor, totally in the spirit. I feel awesome listening and watching this.
so wonderful....the best one yet....!!! I love the peppy conductor too....!
Finally, a version that is actually fast enough, and the sopranos aren't out :) thank you!
Que maravilla! Sobretodo, da gusto ver la cara del director mientras conduce la orquestra y al coro: pareciera que se rie con los ojos.
Bravo Sydney! Vielen Dank an Chor, Orchester und an den

I think I understand what you are trying to say.....like you said, only angelic....only angels can sing like this....with heavenly power and awe....!
This is so W O N D E R F U L can play it over and over, especially love the joy in the conductor's face.
Exactly!!!
I love the Conductor! Amazing skills and wonderful in interpretation of song. Bravo to you🤝🙏🏼 You all are wonderful 🤗
Thank you very much!
One of my alltime favorite Christmas songs. This one really is super fast but I like it better than the slower versions; it brings across the song's joyous exuberance even more. What helps crate the joyful atmosphere?
This is one of the most talented conductors I've ever seen.

I heard such a beautiful rendition of this in church many years ago that caused tears to flow even though I was not weeping.
Perfect tempo! One of the better versions i have heard yet!
This is the just how it is meant to be, fast and staccato!
One of the best pieces ever written, it's genius
Wonderful rendition. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

Excellent 👌. God bless you and Merry Christmas ⛄
There is the spark. Good pace! Better faster than the way too slow versions I have seen, which get lost in the first stretches! Here is a rhythm, almost a musette you can dance to. Joy expressed.

Penetrating singing voices recalled me a young days when I was a member of choir in church.I love this tune, especially tempo of this performance.
Thank you ! Merry Christmas !
This song makes my mind happy and vivid.
Sublime.....beautiful rendition.....great pace.....voices electrifying.
in those yesteryears days only the elite could hear and see such abundance
of greatness.
Just wonderful, just the right speed, some great melismas, I love the messiah,
I like the up tempo version of this performance. The song is usually played at a slower tempo, which is good, but this up tempo version is good also,
This heavenly music can only come from a heart deeply fulfilled with the love of God. Thank you for sharing!
Marvelous performance that, like most, made me smile. What an utterly delightful composition.
As do I, my friend. It is useless for me to attempt singing with our local chorus because of this piece. Glorious and Heavenly. Thank you . . .
perfection, makes you glad to be alive.Love this version so vibrant and full of life!
Wonderful. Thank you for being thoughtful and including the lyrics with the upload!
Another Christmas, we thank God going into 2020. Amem. Great song

A tiny touch of Heaven!!! Thank-you,
One of the summits of universal music.
Its a nice song .I m very happy everytime I heard

Faster than I'm used to, but wow, I'm impressed they got all the notes despite their speed!
The speed is just right , in my opinion
I was born in Haeme. It is a county in Finland, where the slowest men have been born from time to time. Still I prefer this fast version best of all versions I have found in UA-cam. Not only fastness, also all other musical articulation and voices hit my soul in a pleasant way.
Sama täällä.
have you listened to the Marc Minkowski version?
Hear hear!
Suilven Mountain if you have time, you might listen to the Warsaw Philharmonic perform this piece.
Great performance!
This is how it is done! Too many slow dirge versions of this magnificent piece. Bravo!
We're learning this song in our chorus class (really good song! ^-^)
love this song!
God bless you!
Really superb clarity and precision at the perfect tempo. An outstanding performance. I do wish they hadn't omitted the tympani - this seems to happen often in performances in churches.
1:16 WONDERFUL
such a great and wonderful choir..... congratulations..
L.
Uma das melhores interpretações que já ouvi, magnífico!!!!!
I remember this from college choir as one of the most difficult vocal pieces - funny, because I can't stand listening to it, but it was really fun to sing! (I'm a soprano.)
As far as I know this is the Orchestra of the Antipodes under Anthony Walker. One of my preferred Messiah performances :-)
I totally agree, the prophesizes of the coming Messiah I think is pretty exciting.
Superb.
One of my favourite versions.
This is terrific! Who are these wonderful musicians? Wow! That is not easy. The breath control alone...
Glory to the Lord Jesus Christ!
In regards to the fast tempo: Jan Peter Larsen in his article "Handelian Tempo Problems and Messiah" states Handel "wanted to have his music performed in what we would call very quick tempi...Everything points to the fact that excessive slowness has been the besetting sin of most Handel performances"
+Ryan Shanahan yes, but he took it too far--there's no flavor to it---no 'bloom'
I love the fast pace!
The tempo is pretty much perfect!
Beautiful harmony and good angle of camera!
Spot-on tempo!! Brilliantly directed!
wow. the speed is good. beautiful song
@MrFrozenCanuck - Call me sentimental during this time of year, Patrick. But I end up teary-eyed most times I listen to this song.
Wonderful and divine.
Jesus is God!!!!

So refreshing in these crude days.
bonne rapidité, et bonne syncronisation bien diriger avec de superbe voix bravo.
I love this oratorio!
I love this recording! Handel wouldn't have performed at this tempo for chorus; Ireland didn't have quality performers at this point in time
Perfect! Thank You and God Bless You!
OK, the tempo is a little fast but I love the crisp feel to it. Full of joy. Thanks for posting.
It is very good!!/
amazing!!
AMAZING
Handel on speed...and I love it!
Miserere mei
This is it! I have searched for this video - it is perfection! Not too many voices nor instruments and the tempo is as this piece should be. Who is performing?
들으면 들을수록 좋은 합창 헨델 메시아 중에서 12곡 제일 좋은 곡이요
We are singing this song in my Church Choir and I'm an Alto, so although I liked this video it was very difficult to tell the difference between the Alto's and Soprano's
Bravissimi, tutti.
They nailed it.
i think they can handle the fast tempo beautifully. some may like a slower one, i doo, too. but this version is just too wonderful to be hated... i personally love it
