Mountain biking in Austrian Alps, Viehbergrunde in Ennstal

- I went mount biking with my friends in Austrian Alps, in the Schladming, Dachstein region. There are many beautiful MTB trails just around the corner from my house. In the summer months we spent lot of time in the mountains, biking, hiking and camping. This video shows how we relax and ride with friends. It is not my usual gardening video, it is more about the fun times spend with friends out in nature. I believe nature is the best therapist, just a few minutes a day make a huge difference.
We did ‘Viehbergrunde’, a bike trail 46 km long, highest point is 1500 m. It takes you thru the charming town of Gröbming, where a steep climb thru ‘Öfen’ awaits. Then the trail continues thru an old pine forest with moss-covered rocks and incredible views of the mountains around. At the highest point we come to relax at the ‘Viehbergalmen’ which are a group of high-altitude alpine huts offering food and drink to hikers and MTBikers. These are surrounded by alpine pastures with cattle grazing everywhere. We always stop here to enjoy the local culinary specialties prepared by the ‘Sennerin’. My favourite is ‘Steirerkrapfen mit Steirerkas und Sauerkraut’ and beer, of course. With our bellies full, we start the descent to the ‘Salza Stausee’ a lake surrounded by steep rock walls, which leads to the Salza waterfall. At this point we are back in Ennstal and end the tour in our house, with glass of vine, enjoying the summer evening.
