Thank you for a different look at the two bikes. I wonder if the spoked wheels are an option on the Ducati? I do have a suggestion on taking static measurements and I think it is important to look at these parameters.
    1. Side case location on the bike to determine the center of weight distribution of the cases weight relative to the rear axle front to back. This has a dramatic effect on the handling of the bikes when carrying luggage for long trips. When i carry the same loads on my old RT and my old Multistrada, the Multi would handle the camping cargo load much better. The RT was much more impacted by the load.
    2. Passenger rear seat center relative to the rear axle location. Again, this seriously effects how the bike handles when a passenger is carried, just one inch difference or even less can make major changes to how the bike feels when two up!
    3. When seated on the bike place a long level across the top of the windshield to the rider. Find the zero level and measure where that hits the riders helmet with the windshield all the way up ad all the way down. This is a better determination of how effective the protection will be.
    4. How hard is it to place each bike on the centerstand with luggage loaded?
    5. Sit on the bike and see how soft or hard the seat is.
    6. Mount the bikes and add a passenger, feel how roomy they are and judge comfort.
    7. Do the bikes balance on the centerstand when you remove each wheel for a flat repair? You can judge this if you place weights on the rear racks to represent the front wheel weight for front wheel removal.
    8. Lets do it!

Great idea for a video. I've been on the 1250GS for a few years now, love it but honestly if I were to trade I'd buy the Ducati now.

A big item in the decision is the heat from the rear cylinders on Ducati. On the Rally version they addressed it with rear cylinder deactivation. To my knowledge the GT and V4S models sadly do not have this feature.

    • @Ecotec2
      @Ecotec2 2 місяці тому

However, this has nothing to do with the heat but with saving fuel. The GT has the option of opening the cooling shaft at the front. That will certainly help a little.

Hi Scott . Love your videos and all your technical data but you measured the pillion seat at the wrong point. I do a lot of 2up riding about 10k per year. My wife’s bum does not sit on the front of the seat which you measured but towards the rear of the seat as on my GSA. Recently I got my local BMW dealer to measure the pillion seat on the 1300 and the GS1250 in the showroom. The triangular shape of the 1300 seat renders it 3 inches not centimetres narrower than the 1250. Needless to say that’s a big question mark for my wife in terms of long mileage comfort and a worry about what they’ll do with the new GSA. As they say in the carpentry trade, measure twice and cut once 👍

Even dealing with the bad weather you pulled out once more an interesting and useful video🙌
    Thank you.
One of the targets of BMW was to make a smaller GS with gains on overall performance. Looking at both bikes as you demonstrated here, the Multistrada looks more like a BMW GSA than to a GS. The V4S looks bulkier, and maybe it is not very handle friendly for shorter or less bigger riders, I imagine. If size matters, sometimes, smaller can be better. Long term ownership will tell which is ultimately a better choice. I think that in conjunction with other factors, Reliability is an important factor for the costumer of each one of this bikes. I would appreciate to know your thoughts on this. If you’ve addressed the subject on a prior video, could you be so kind to share it’s reference ?
Ride safe ✌🏻hope the weather cooperates 👌🏻

      Thank you!
Yea, Ducati have always had quality issues, yes, I'm saying it "kindly" and that is why BMW has one of the best resale values like Honda. If I were to buy an ADV bike solely based on reliability, I would not get the Ducati...needless to say. But and I'm not defending Ducati, but their focus is today and always has been "performance first" and it shows in their line-up of bikes. BMW is often about comfort/quality/tech...etc. and performance is way down on the list, probably not even in the top 10 list of goals for a BMW. I used to chase power and performance in my early/mid adult life, now that I'm past all that hooliganism, Ducati seem a little adolescent or immature to me. Sure they are fun to ride but after a while on a Ducati I'm tired and just want to get off the bike, whereas a BMW I can ride and ride all day long and keep going and going. I guess this is what happens to us old guys 🤣😢
      Take care,
      Scott

Ducati radar is smaller but for me i like the gs radar more, specially on the front. On the ducati it really stands out and im finding it not that nice looking. The gs sure its a big one but there it looks more like its part of the bike.
Heat button im sure its engineered to work fine but having it in place right behind the drivers butt.. i dont know.. i prefer buttons on the side physical but also digital in the infotainment system like on my indian pursuit.
Backlit controls seem nice, my pursuit doesnt come with that but there is an option to buy them. Although my bike doesnt have so much buttons so i dont really need it unlike on these two bikes.

Yep, agreed. The surprising thing though is that no other OEM sells even a third of what they sell ever single year. I think it's the old "jack of all trades, master of none" rule that the adventure rider likes so much about the GS.
