Also the IIHS requires those with the Top Safety Pick+ to have collision safety systems as standard equipment for 2015 and so forth.
Blind spot monitoring with those red dots that show in the side mirrors is the best thing out. It's virtually impossible to add on to an existing car.
I'm a two million miler accident free semi driver. When they first installed the device in the truck I thought it sounded like a good defensive driving tool. Boy I was wrong. This device is not good on any vehicle. For example:
1. Passing it pings saying I'm too close to the car in front of me. Then, I get cars/semis that jump into my space causing me to slow more so I don't get pinged by the device. I even had a police officer take my protective space. 2. It picks up off ramp speeds and says I'm speeding..ping ping ping. 3. Construction zones were the lines are not lined up the device goes ping ping ping 4. It malfunctions blinking and going ping ping ping quite often. 5. It picks up cars on the opposite side of you and goes ping ping ping 6. There's a blue light now in the middle of the windshield that is very distracting at night. The display is bright. This technology would be good if all cars had it. Until then it is a neusance because other drivers take advantage by darting into your safe space causing more harm than good.
I would imagine as it would be much easier to spin out when during turns when roads are have more moisture. On a rainy day, it was very easy for my rear wheels to spin when making a fast turn.
I think collision warning is good enough for safety features. Pre-Collision braking is only good if a brand new car also comes equipped with adaptive cruise control, since those use either radar or cameras.
What does it take to get one installed in my car. Where do I have to go
It is worth the money because if just one accident is avoided it's worth the money
Distracted drivers have been around since the invention of the automobile more than 100 years ago. We are humans and humans CAN NOT multi-task. Our brains were designed to do one thing at a time, so saying that we need to pay attention behind the wheel is hard to accomplish. There are far too many distractions, especially in today's society, that take our minds off of what should be done. Devices like this are very much needed and that's why they are included on most new cars. I might buy one.
My screen went blank with only three green lines horizontal in the center, two green and one shorter in the middle. Not sure what to do now only to go and have it recalibrated at some qualified shop somewhere. I understand you have to be a qualified technician to work on these units. What a pain! Anyone out there have any ideas?
How does this app work exactly? Does it use your phone camera?
People who text and drive will absolutely love this!
+Matthew Y One way to meet Jesus
But it lacks blind spot monitoring system :-/
how can I order it ? I live in Saudi Arabia
That is a great product
No amount of technology can save us from
1. Drunk drivers
2. Distracted drivers (texting, twitter updates, selfie etc)
3. Police car chase. ( very common here in LA)
4. Drag racing on freeway
Wonder if fitting these would give a driver some kind of insurance premium discount?
Question for the car experts: Is it true that a RWD car is worse for winter driving? A friend told me that the rear axle receive less weight than the front axle.
Over $1,000!!!! Wow!!!
guys stop talking about distracting.i have this unit installed in my jeep and it's amazing always alerts when driving to close or lane departure when I'm distracted.i just want to be a little cheaper so I can install it in my working vans I really miss this unit In my vans
+iurie baciu-mihailov I am mostly interested in pedestrian detection. and collision warning. Can I turn off other features if I find them distracting. do you know the difference between 560 and the cheaper unit
Yes you can turn off lane departure warning and all other features
iurie baciu-mihailov now that you've had it a while, how do you like it still? I have a 2012 Corolla. Older car but I'm admittedly not a great driver and am hoping this will help keep me in check. Hope much did it cost installed?
800$
Where can I order one?
the Ionroad app does many of the same features on your smartphone without all the expensive equipment
I tried searching and that does not seem to be a real app??
it does.
What happened to paying attention while driving a car?
people that need this needs to call a cab
THAT IS SO COOL CONSIDERING MANUFACTURERS CHARGE WAYYYY TO MUCH FOR THESE FEATURES!!!!!!
Dont expect any back up service in Australia and get the update software
Someone quoted me $1550 for this in Sydney. Have you used it in Australia?
I agree 100% with grim reaper.
This only proves that auto manufacturers could easily and inexpensively give much greater safety and situational awareness to all motorists. Shame on them for using safety features as marketing tools.
I want that
I am driving a semi with this device installed. I thought it would be a good Defensive Driving Tool but it is not. It is distracting! The blue light from the display in the middle of the windshield to the flashing symbols on the display to the constant pinging sound.
I can't believe all the people that are drinking the "Kool-Aid" on the product. It's annoying and distracting.Every time it beeps your eyes go to that display and off the road. It has many false alarms "ghost cars," lines that aren't there etc.
Thats cool but car makers should put this safety features in the cars at no cost.
Nowadays they do. This is for older vehicles
Guess its ok but I expect a price drop soon.
very good product, however, rather expensive.
I like it to auto braking for u
Spend $1,000 or simply PAY ATTENTION (no cell phone use while driving, of course) and drive defensively!
I'd rather it just tell me my gas mileage because that's really all I need to know.
The dummy car is an MK5 GTI. LOL
As a truck driver with millions of accident free miles under my belt, I find this to be more of an annoying and unnecessary distraction, than a helpful tool of the trade. Imagine being in rush hour traffic with that thing beeping every two to five seconds, while, you're trying to hear the road report on the radio! No Thank You very much!
Do we really need these stuffs anyway? We're getting' 2 lazy
Just use common sense, stay back and scan the area. No need for this unless your blind or always distracted while driving.
+Acc0rd79 Make sure you turn the sun off before you drive so it will not shine in your eyes and if the car ahead has no brake lights check before you follow them
But humans aren't perfect and driving still kills people so it's better to reduce accidents via safety equipment than just deny that and expect perfection from humans.
@@themikeroberts exactly! Well said.
How about people just focus on driving? All of these driver aids are getting ridiculous.
Well these are emergency alert in case you lose focus. They are not replacing any safe driving behaviors, they are a backup.
