I saw this in Rock Machina 2002 and it's still on of the best concerts I've ever had the honor to presence. Awesome, perfect, masterpiece after masterpiece.. and this is not ever near of describing what I felt
Thanks for posting this.I never was able to get a chance to listen to Damon with savatage. While other reviewers Said he wasn't great. From what I hear he doesn't seem bad at all. Heck I wish the band I represent could find such a vocalist. We even have label connections and struggle to find one of that caliber.
Can KAYASAL unfortunately per Damond they kind of put the screws to him. Read a recent interview of him on Blabbermouth. He wasn't very kind to Jon and Paul.
The song in the beginning is "The Wake Of Magellan" and the one following is "Conversation Piece". Congratulations on finding this band. you have countless hours of great music before you. =D I'd suggest listening to the album "Streets" first. It's simply the most amazing and is the last one with the Oliva brothers on guitar and vocals.
I watched them live that same year, july 2002 in Rock Machina festival in Spain. One of the best concerts of my life, damn sure, no exaggeration at all. I was SO looking forward to an album with Damond Jiniya on vocals and Jeff Waters on lead guitar, I was hugely disappointed that it never happened.. :(
Damond Jiniya is so very underrated. Would have LOVED to hear a full record with him! Really, I'd love to hear another record of Sava in any capacity, at this point! I hear it's within the next year or so, with both Zak and Jon.
I would love some more footage from this Wacken show as well, I was there and this concert got me completely hooked on Savatage, having listened to only a couple of songs before...
@Cursed1992 It isn't Petrelli, especially depending on what time of 2002 this is he was still in Megadeth. That's Chris Caffrey and Jeff Waters in this video
And there is Chris Caffrey destroying the place with one of the most coolest Randy Rhoads on planet Earth and there it is walking 2002 yep in Germany live on stage with one of the coolest guitars I've ever seen in my life yep it's an incredible Randy Rhoads it's an incredible footage it blows me away every time I see it for many reasons those that know me know exactly why this is the footage used to be a lot longer but you can get the whole 2 hour concert where he plays this for over an hour this guitar for over an hour plus many other shows that he played this guitar at playing top Randy Rhodes catalog photo number 11 Chris Caffrey
HI genius, I really enjoy in this video and I would be happy if you have something more from this festival. I like Savatage especially with Damond's vocals but I can not find any more material with him. So please , if you have enithing in this quality , can you share with us or send me?
@gbruceisgod yes, Pitreli's got dark hair, but I though he change his image. And he's often playing Jackson guitarsh, so I though he was Al. I also never noticed, that Pitrelli left Savatage, but who knows, he also played in Megadeth at the same years. I agree, Jackson V RR are awesome guitars, they are looking and playing good. I wish I could see video live from Savatage Gasparilla Festival. There was Al playing guitar and there was my favourite ballad - Alone You Breathe.
he was just a "hired gun" like alex skolnick for the "handful of rain"-album... jon oliva announced a farewell-show for somewhen during the next couple of years, with all members and ex-members of sava. and it's supposed to happen in germany (YES! :D). though i think it's going to feel bad to bury this legend of a band.
I KNOW SAVATAGE MYSELF AND I OWN THAT FLAMETOP RANDY RHOADS U.S.A. SUPER CUSTOM , BRUSHED STEEL PARTS , ITS PIC #11 IN THE JACKSON 2000 CATOLOUGE AND WAS GOTTEN FROM CHRIS HIMSELF TO ME THRU HIS TECH MY FRIEND ! ROCK ON , SEE YA , ALZ
Saw them live in 2002 with Jeff Plate, Jon Oliva, Chris Caffery, Jack Frost, Johnny Lee Middleton and Damon Jiniya. Exceptional concert. Damon was great and very theatrical. Vicious Rumors opened up. Also great. In the middle was Blaze Bayley. Not a good choice in my opinion
Well you can go see a Jon Oliva's Pain show and enjoy a lot of Savatage songs with a guitarist who plays Criss' guitar solos better than anyone except for Criss.
@11wastelandwarrior Stevens is more about flourishes in the voice; more theatrical, operatic, and, ultimately, more commercial. Not a swing at the guy at all.
Damond Jiniya would have done an awesome album if he ever recorded with the 'tage. He handled both Jon and Zak's vocals like a boss!
Awesome to see Jeff Waters there with one of the greatest bands ever!!!
I was there! First time I heard Savatage. Great moment.
amazing!Savatage-one of the best bands ever!
and when i hear the chorus of "wake of Magellan"
my heart is twisted,ALL HAIL TO THEM!!!!
Sono un grande fan dei Savatage ma questo cantante non lo conoscevo...bravissimo!!!
Yeah, I was there in the front row. Fantastic concert it was. Will never forget it.
Somebody's gotta upload the rest of this show!
I saw this in Rock Machina 2002 and it's still on of the best concerts I've ever had the honor to presence.
Awesome, perfect, masterpiece after masterpiece.. and this is not ever near of describing what I felt
The greatest Canadian metal guitarist with the greatest American metal band! Awesome! Dig It!
Damond is just amazing,a perfect match!!
Thank you so much for uploading !!
Dang. That singer was pretty solid.

it's a pity that Savatage didn't had the chance to make an album with Damond :/
Can KAYASAL unfortunately per Damond they kind of put the screws to him. Read a recent interview of him on Blabbermouth. He wasn't very kind to Jon and Paul.

awww memories...

i really miss savatage
Proof that Jeff Waters can play just about anything, killer guitar player.
I watched them live that same year, july 2002 in Rock Machina festival in Spain. One of the best concerts of my life, damn sure, no exaggeration at all.

I was there! Unbelievable atmosphere and very hot weather!
Savatage Mk II? It's like Mk VI ! :p

Wonderful! Savatage rocks!!!
Damond Jiniya is so very underrated. Would have LOVED to hear a full record with him! Really, I'd love to hear another record of Sava in any capacity, at this point! I hear it's within the next year or so, with both Zak and Jon.

I was there, he sang amazingly good. Big big show with extra Jeff action. :)
Chris has some of the most unreal guitar’s I have seen who actually play’s them on stage, “ Raise the fist of the metal child “ !

It´s at Wacken Open Air 2002.
I think it's in Wacken (Germany), I was there
I have pictures of this show, at WOA 2002.
@15V31F they could. In Neu-Isenberg in 1997 they did it.
@cabo201 Tiene partes de Edge of Thorns...

what's the band line-up?
Damond Jiniya - vocals
Chris Caffery - guitars
Jon Oliva - keyboards
and????
And why did the video stop just before the solo started?!
Dude it’s my uncle Damond heck yea
This lineup should have recorded.
@gbruceisgod yes, Pitreli's got dark hair, but I though he change his image. And he's often playing Jackson guitarsh, so I though he was Al. no,no,no,this is wacken 2002,i was there!!!!!!!
YES! Damond was GREAT!
Damn, close to eargasm.
Does it exists a live version of "The Wake of Magellan" where they actually perform the choirs at the end of the song? :D
Pitreli's playing on lead Jackson V RR?
My goodness...Jeff Waters and Damond....at Wacken
Damond is THE MAN!
Guess I'll have to see if the HQ comes my way first...
Plz join,, savatage forever,, group with all savatage stars 👍😃
I KNOW SAVATAGE MYSELF AND I OWN THAT FLAMETOP RANDY RHOADS U.S.A. SUPER CUSTOM , BRUSHED STEEL PARTS , ITS PIC #11 IN THE JACKSON 2000 CATOLOUGE AND WAS GOTTEN FROM CHRIS HIMSELF TO ME THRU HIS TECH MY FRIEND ! ROCK ON , SEE YA , ALZ
This would be Mk III or IV, I think?
0:00 ~1:21 is the end of "The Wake Of Magellan"
1:21 ~ 4:26 is "Edge Of Thorns"
Bro I never knew you played with sabotage. T
algien como se llama esa cancion
it's the wake of magellan
Jeff Walker on guitar?
Andre Mergel its jeff waters
Andre Mergel walker texas ranger on guitars :D
Jeff Waters filling in for Al Pitrelli? I approve.
Not a good choice in my opinion
whats the name of the song plz ????
Mahmoud Barakat The first song is The Wake of Magellan, the second is Edge of Throns :)
is that jeff waters on guitar or is it just me??
Very strange to see Jeff Waters not playing the solo's...
Argh, this is humiliating! Of course it's Edge Of Thorns.
I don't know what I was thinking. God damnit, I'm getting old. =(
Well you can go see a Jon Oliva's Pain show and enjoy a lot of Savatage songs with a guitarist who plays Criss' guitar solos better than anyone except for Criss.
@giub81 Jon knows good talent
Sava was deadly wounded in 93 and slowly dies in 98 ...
You're right, but to me there are only two; before and after Criss Oliva :-(
when John Oliva Sang,It Was A lot Better,I don't care much about any other line up,than the original.
dude chris caffery and jeff waters in the same band!!!!! where the fuck was I?
"Edge Of Thorns"
@Cursed1992 Right guitar but wrong man. Its Chris Caffrey. The guitar is super cool.......
Wake of Magellan
Unlike Stevens (who is awesome in his own right) this guy can alternate between Oliva-style vocals and the showy Stevens vocals.
Not a bad lineup (didn't care much for Damond) but Mk II was like 6 lineups before this one....lol
Forgot... Johnny Middleton bass
fuck there is not a band called savatage without john and criss. Now i see a second clash band
Jon is on keyboards
More like number 9, I think, when I think hard :p
@11wastelandwarrior Stevens is more about flourishes in the voice; more theatrical, operatic, and, ultimately, more commercial. Not a swing at the guy at all.
Damon Jiniya
@11wastelandwarrior No, no. Stevens is more of a rock star than Jinjya.I'm saying the kid is good at emulating both styles.
