It's one of the better decisions I've seen them make. It's one of the weakest tentpole aspects of magic that needs to be supported
I hope Strefan survives! I’ve been interested in the minor bloodlines ever since Strefan got brought up way back in the Innistrad Art Book.
It was still great to get to see the character in action though, and a Vampire being a victim of a haunted house is just such a fun idea.
Crimson Vow gave us a taste of so many new families and faction in Innistrad and I hope there are more yet to come!

Thank you for this video. Contrary to competitive magic (let's say Historic, Standard) where I'm always after the strong build/synergy, Commander is a much more personal experience to me, so I build decks based on theme and style. As a huge horror fan, it was not by chance that I got back into Commander during Innistrad. I've built Wilhelt, Lynde, Tovolar, I'm currently building Runo and Eruth and I also bought the Strefan precon. The thing is, I didn't like him that much, so before even trying it out I was already planning on replacing him for Anje, which sounds like a much coller general. This video completely changed my opinion on Strefan though. He's a really good character, so he deserves my attention and I'll keep him as the deck's commander.

Great vid as always. Letting us get to know a brand new character by going through his creepy ordeal "with" him is a great way to show us why we might choose to care about him, and having a look at why a denizen of Innistrad would choose to sire a bloodline is a great little tidbit of lore!

It's Crimson Vow release day!
Honestly the creature in this sounds like an Eldrazi that wasn’t fully born when the Titan self exiled.
So I have a theory about innistrad midnight hunt and crimson vow, I think they had originally planned to release a new emrakul. Hear me out, emrakul was trapped in the moon of innistrad, and in one of the previous sets, zendikar rising, there was the legendary artifact ,forsaken monument, that seemed to show the remains of ulamog and it has synergies with colorless stuff, and the card shrine of the forsaken gods references the eldrazi titans (both have the word forsaken and seem to show or reference eldrazi), along with wastes being in the list (I believe). So this is why I believe wotc planned to bring back emrakul for one last time but cut the idea to go with the idea of what innistrad looks like after emrakul's visit.

The idea of the house is very similar to the hotel from The Shining. A house that consumes and culminates the souls of those who enter.
Very cool way to integrate that idea into Magic.
Seems like the Twins not being a legendary creature is now canonized as a mistake.
They wouldn't be the first creature to have a non-legendary refence, and later have a card that marks them specifically as legendary.

Something I'm hoping we see at some point in these stories is just a vampire that took immortality as a means to a peaceful end. Like an author horrified at the prospect of his works being distended over the years, ao he assumed a succession of guises to keep his original intent discussed.
Pretty sure the vampire progenitor Elenda has this in mind at Ixalan. What her scions did was not something she was happy about. In fact last time we left ixalan she was scolding Vona and Mavren.

It could be possible that the Hladvora is an entity similar to the iconic Pennywise from the “It” franchise. Both are amorphous entities, and have the ability to take the form of seemingly familiar beings. They both seem to manipulate the perception of reality, and both feed on the fear and memories of their victims.

It looks like "hlad-" means Hunger in many slavic languages, and "vora" means "devour" in Latin. So this is probably the inspiration for the name

Definitely takes the well-worn haunted house element and puts a new spin on it by making it into some kind of apex predator. It goes to show there is always something worse out there than what your accustomed to seeing.
I really prefer these side stories.

I was gonna make a snarky comment about how does Strefan fall into a sticky pit when he has flying, but I guess since he hadn't fed in a while he was too weak to fly
Yeah that's exactly it. The story does explain he's weak from not feeding and he used up the last of his flight powers chasing Brandt but I didn't mention that in my recap.

The final chapter of the story was published the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. I will have my recap posted this coming Friday, if all goes well.
This is my favorite part of Innistrad - Weird, gothic stuff that doesn't fit neatly into any of the established categories. Stuff like the Gitrog Monster, or Old Stickfingers, or this. It's the shit, man.

I think you missed one for the Strefan list...the flier who forgets he can fly, falls into a pit 🧐😑
The story makes it clear he is too weak to fly, on account of not having consumed blood in a while. He does fly for a bit while chasing Brandt, but that seems to use up the last of his strength.
This is pretty awesome. I'm trying to understand MTG Lore.

Strefan guesses that Brandt was under the influence of the Hladvora the entire time, and that the entity effectively "traded up" by sacrificing Brandt to fully trap the vampire.

The story says that he's able to carefully dismount and stand between a few, then push the rest to the side to make more room as he works his way to the edge of the pit. So I'd guess they're only a foot or two tall, at the most.

A sentient house eating people is everything but original, lol. The trope is a old as horror itself. Its origins are not scp related at all.
