At age 9 I had zero interest in the Y-Wing but got it for Christmas of 1983. For some reason, I quickly fell in love with it and it became my starfighter ‘avatar’ for anything and everything (including descriptions from Atari game manuals, and reviews of others, such as the “Terran Hyperfighters” of Intellivision’s “The Dreadnaught Factor”, and even “The Last Starfighter”’s ‘Gunstar’ (as, to me as a kid, it was thick, bulky and tough, etc, etc)). As I’d also got the G.I. Joe Skystriker that Christmas, I usually used that pilot (Ace) for the Y-Wing as he had a semi-modern/semi-realistic-futuristic look to his outfit and helmet). (Note that, as much as I loved the SW films, I never ever once used the figures nor vehicles to ‘play SW’. Nope. It was always my own thing, though obviously inspired by whatever, etc. The summers of 1984 and 1985, my Y-Wing was my #1 main ‘go-to’ toy and main ‘go-to’ Starfighter always. The two greatest summers of my entire life, and the the toy I didn’t ask for at all was my greatest joy! The Y-Wing remains my single fave to this day. I still have my original and it’s still in great condition, missing only the back end of the bomb. Heh
I loved my Skystriker. There were actually two versions. -One version was white with black rudders and had a large rubber nosetip -The other version was light gray with matching colored rudders and a small rubber nosetip (that was mine) And Ace actually looked more like an astronaut than an airplane pilot.
Who among us (that are old enough) didn't want an entire Rebel fleet of star fighters when we were growing up? Such iconic designs and names. I still think that B-Wing comercial is one of my favorite that Kenner produced - The 2 boys flying in formation and between the trees in the backyard. Great review, Tony. Seeing Spock still piloting your Y-Wing made me chuckle. WORLDS COLLIDE!
I bought the same Spock figure from an ebay seller in recent years, but don't have any starfighter for him to pilot. So him along with Tron, Stan Solo Slave Leia and a few of the modern Star Wars figures mixed with some vintage Kenner ones are on the modern Hasbro Return Of The Jedi Skiff gifted to me by Scuba Pete. We used to own a Y-Wing in my home. It was my brother's and he later gave it to me. I don't I hung onto it, but then it was bought 2nd hand and missing the door to the pilot section. It was also missing a bunch of other extra pieces, so it was never as much fun as owning a complete one!
personally growing up, getting the cash for the Vehicles were a luxury, I kinda tended to lean towards the Imp stuff, since I could only get 1 every blue moon
When you consider the years when these toys were released it's amazing how much detail was put into the vehicles, and the changes made to the vehicles made sense. Even the non-cinematic vehicles like the Imperial Transport were cool. I haven't seen a toy line since that did such a great job of translating the look and spirit of it's source material. Kudos for having Spock in the Y-Wing.
🤣🤣🤣🤣 The "Spock" ,touch had me cracking up ... Logic vers...... Personally I'm a fan of both .. but that was a funny little come back .. " I know what you did there! 🤣🤣🤦🏾♂️👨🏽🚀🥋✌🏾🖖🏾
Great review. I was always partial to the B-Wing. I loved the asymmetrical look. I tried to fly it in one of the video games, but was never any good at it. As a kid, I made my Rebel Starfighters out of poster paper and cardboard. Weapons worked so no toy survived my childhood. Those Starfighters were, and still are, great vehicles for the imagination.
The best part is that all of these classic ships were retooled and enhanced in Power Of The Force/Power Of The Jedi. They are great alternatives to the 80s versions. The B Wing is my fighter star wars toy.
brings back feelings of my childhood I started recollecting after the 20th anniversary I have 2 X-wings Y-wing B-wing Tie bomber and most of the micro machine ships
There is just something so perfect with the 4 starship designs. Glad they were re-released in the 90s, since I was too young to appreciate them when initially released in the 1980s.
Fantastic video. Growing up me and my brothers had the Power of the Force 2 releases. I always really had a fondness to the A-Wing. Maybe because my older brothers always got to use the Y-Wing and X-Wing since they were a little more iconic and I got stuck with it.
As a kid, I always felt like the X-wing was a reliable old work horse and the B-wing was a flying tank, but the A-wing was a super quick fighter that could be all over its target before it even knew what was going on.
Excellent review! Brought back so many fond memories!! I'm 46 years old, and I remember wanting to own all of these vehicles and figures so badly! I can still recall that feeling. Cheers to you, good sir!
this is the first video from this channel ive ever seen, i cannot believe youtube has hidden this from me this entire time! this is a fantastic channel, i gotta go back thru them all now :)
Great stuff! The A-Wing is my favourite Rebel ship but i had (and still have) the Y-Wing and Battle Damaged X-Wing. The Y-Wing's cockpit is so good! But foolish young me painted the X-Wing stripes black after the stickers became damaged 🤦♂
Great video Tony! Like you I own a POF2 A-Wing and Stan Solo A-Wing pilot.. they look great on the shelf next to my childhood battle damaged Palitoy X-Wing
I lived this! I had the Millennium (try saying that as a kid!) Falcon, Battle Damaged X-Wing, Y-Wing and B-Wing. The Y-Wing was by far my favorite because of all the working play features. When I got “too old” to play with toys, I donated them all to some lucky 10 year old neighbor. I would love to have another Y-Wing but with each successive release, it falls short of the original Kenner one. Even Lego’s UCS Y-Wing cockpit doesn’t open sideways. Oh well, maybe some day….
Bumped into this channel and I'm glad ,,,, the memories, the only star wars toy I had was a R2D2 figure all the rest was out of my price range but I did get some battle star galactic stuff thank for the video 👍🏻
i had an original uk Xwing.....that i swapped with a mate for all the marbles i owned.....which was about 300 and i remember those of us with vehicles collected as many Luke xwing pilots AND basic stormtroopers we could get. My favourite was always the snow speeder
I had the Battle Damaged X-Wing Fighter, because all the standard X-Wing Fighters were sold out in the stores. Only the Battle Damaged version was available. It was a "disappointment" to me, because it felt like I was getting a used car. 🤣🤣🤣 I really wanted the lighter toned standard X-Wing. As a kid, I did not appreciate the artistry in making a Battled Damaged version. I just now realized the Battle Damaged version was actually superior, because it had contrast between the engine intakes and the primary body hull, unlike the standard version.
I was born in 77 and had all three Star Wars movies on VHS, recorded from HBO when they landed there, so I've seen these probably over 100 times each because children can watch the same things over and over and not get bored. The space battles were by far my favorite part of all the films, although the Both battle was technically a ground battle it counts too. The only Star Wars tv or film that comes close to the glory of the originals battles is Rogue One, so to say I don't I really like any of the prequel or sequel films is an understatement. They really dropped the ball on the war in the stars area of Star Wars. Hahahahaha! Look at all the wood paneling in that commercial! That stuff used to be in every house I remember as a kid.
When I was a kid playing with my friends, my friend Steven play-said something to the effect of, "We captured you - and we're going to lock you in Cell Block AA-23!" At that age, I still thought girls were "icky", so he was really teasing me in what he said.
The Y-wing and B-Wing were the toys that eluded me as a child. I’ll never forget finding and getting the A-Wing from the Droids line, the only thing I ever bought from that line.
@@scockery I found the A-Wing pilot in a yard sale around 1989 lol. I think it was 5 or 6 years later. I had to sell them a few years ago as I was desperate for money and I saw the prices shooting up.
That was great Tony. Thanks. My favourite was always the Y-Wing, and I have a number including he model kit, Mico Machines (Galoob) and several Lego sets. You just can’t have enough Y-Wings!
Great video Tony, as always. Point to note though, Palitoy did release the grey X-Wing in the UK, with the battle damage stickers. But, just as with the first version, they removed the electronics. The blue activation button was there, but none of the internals, and the battery compartment was glued shut. The bulb in the nose was also removed and the body work was molded over to close the hole where the bulb used to poke through. The rest of the vehicle was the same as the Kenner release. This version was a late release in tri-logo Euro boxes.
Point to note though, I did say there was far too many foreign variations for me to cover in this video and that I would only discuss the most “well known” international release.
@@AnalogToys Absolutely, and I understand why, but for clarity I wanted to point out that you mentioned that Palitoy did not change the X-Wing to the grey version, as Kenner did, when releasing the battle damaged version. When in fact they did, but used up over stock of their previous white version first for the battle damaged release, before moving to their modified grey version later on. I just wanted to clarify a possible confusion that this might of raised with other collectors who were not in the know. Thanks.
Great review! I think I was already out of Star Wars by the time the B-Wing came out but that really is an awesome toy. My favorite starship as a kid was actually the Colonial Viper from Mattel it just sucked that it was scaled so small compaired to the Star Wars guys.
Great video Tony - Enjoyable & very informative! The entire starfighter line-up was beautiful, but I must admit that the B-Wing is a very special piece. Regarding the figures, Luke X-Wing was my first ever figure… it’s still magnificent!!
Great video. Still got my Snowspeeder…. In the original box! Never saw the Y, B or A wings in shops though😢 Had and still have the A & B pilots though 😊
Love the video and those rebel Starfighter designs from the Original Trilogy. None of the SW 'hero' Starfighter designs since have hit the mark like these did, with only the N1 coming close.
As a child, the sole Star Wars toy I got was the Y-Wing, which is sadly long gone. About two decades later, I managed to grab both X-Wing and Millennium Falcon reissues from The Power of The Force line (missed on grabbing a Snowspeeder and a Tie Fighter), which I still keep in their boxes to this day.
Great video Tony. The Y Wing looks amazing, although not as iconic as the X Wing, it's certainly a superior toy. As a fan of both Star Wars and Star Trek, I love the fact Spock is your Y Wing pilot. May the Force Live Long and Prosper!

Great review and as a kid I always wanted access to these, tho none of my friends ever had one. I finally got a Palitoy Xwing last year and it was a great feeling to finally be able to hold one. One day a Y wing will be obtained as I always wanted one as a kid and its a fantasic design.
Great video. I also hold the Y-Wing and B-Wing in very high regard, more so than the X-Wing. I also agree that the vintage A-Wing is simply not worth the insane price. I'm using one of the later reissues of that tooling that has the upgraded cockpit controls.
Great review as always Tony! I have to say the Y-Wing was quite possibly my favorite SW vehicle as a kid and had excellent play value. As far as that X-Wing tattoo goes I actually know a guy with an X-Wing tattoo on his ....FOREHEAD... near his right temple. Yes....on the forehead. 😂
I always wanted a Y wing. But long before they came out. Snow speeder was a great Cobra combat fighter! Held two guys. Here comes Major Bludd and Firefly!!!!
The only original Star Wars toy I have left is the B-Wing. My favourite ship was the Y-Wing. I have memories of playing with it a lot. But strangely I cannot recall my toy having the twin ion cannon turret. I'm sure it didn't have it. We're there any models released without it?
I just had an x-wing, snowspeeder and y-wing plus a tie fighter but as a kid it felt like a fleet! That Y-wing with all those struts was a curse though because I would promptly lose them. Great video!
My Microman Pharoid with my R2 still pilots my original Y Wing to this day. My Clone Wars Y Wing has an R5 and is flown by one of my Baronesses for some reason.
Great video, Tony ! I was on the same boat as you, regarding the A-Wing… I also got the POTF2 version (for a really low price, moreover !). As a side note, I also got the Hasbro version of the Bespin Cloud Car, which is much better than the original (quite bland) Kenner version.
I had the Palitoy X-wing and my friend had the Y-wing. It was always a slight disapointment to me how the Y-wing cockpit had buttons and screens but my X-wing had absolutely nothing. Also, using R-2 as a button was a bad idea. Just make a damn hole for a R2 and a separate button!
Just did some research on the internet lol apparently the b wing has nothing to do with the letter B, the b stands for Blade so it's the blade wing. If I'm completely wrong please someone correct me.
Never knew anyone who had one of the B wings, and Don't remember the commercials. But that thing is huge compared to the x wing. Wish I did have one of those, very cool
I had the orange flightsuit Luke, but I wanted the farmboy Luke, because that outfit was the most iconic. Back then, I didn't know that his farmboy shirt was actually based on the karate gi! 🤣
I had had the battle damaged X WING I bought UK one with my birthday money the only rebel star fighter didn't have the other's A wing I was looking for in the catalog and TV ad put the B wing on my Xmas list didn't get it I had a couple of snow speeders no Y wing came out a bit late to be interested in it .
As a kid when I was at my great grandparents the to had a pilot Luke that I used as wedge when I played with Luke since I had my saga legends Endor Luke
I used to wish as a kid they'd make a plaster moulding set or something like that, so you could Army build Storm troopers etc [Parents wouldn't let me have multiple figures the same either]
Being a kid in the 80's rocked!
At age 9 I had zero interest in the Y-Wing but got it for Christmas of 1983.

Another awesome video!
You really did the nerd work Sir!! Awesome Review!!!
For Star Wars, the Y wing is as a fantastic design as the Chandley Frigate was for Star Trek FASA
Great video Tony! I find the B- wing looks more like a low case t-wing.
Just did some research on the internet lol apparently the b wing has nothing to do with the letter B, the b stands for Blade so it's the blade wing. If I'm completely wrong please someone correct me.
Interesting in that 1997 Power of the Force commercial they called him Emperor "Palpatine"
Never knew anyone who had one of the B wings, and Don't remember the commercials. But that thing is huge compared to the x wing. Wish I did have one of those, very cool
I didnt even know there was an A wing toy produced! I had all the other rebel ships as a kid though, I think. Cool. :)
0:03 "Tony, do you like gladiator movies?"
My favorite two fighter ships are the star wars X-wing and the Arwing from Star Fox 64 (inspired by the X-wing).
great episode
I remember by the time the y wing and b wing were available another fighter was on sale and that fighter was the roboskull
I had the 78 xwing as a kid.
this is great!
I had the orange flightsuit Luke, but I wanted the farmboy Luke, because that outfit was the most iconic. Back then, I didn't know that his farmboy shirt was actually based on the karate gi! 🤣
My parents had the same philosophy regarding action figures so I had to use Hoth Han Solo as the rear gunner.
Please do the TIE INTERCEPTOR
Thank You ☮️
We covered that here: ua-cam.com/video/V6VDTKJmwWQ/v-deo.html
Kenner really should have made those battle damage stickers as removable "colorforms".
As a kid when I was at my great grandparents the to had a pilot Luke that I used as wedge when I played with Luke since I had my saga legends Endor Luke
I had A grey battle damaged x-wing but it did not have electronics within it
Crazy to think Return of the Jedi is 40 years old this year [I remember my parents dismissing Star wars as a '5 minute fad' when I was a kid]
Wild that 1997 commercials were SO close yet still SO far away from the prequels or ANYTHING else lol.. the good old days
Why did the falcon not have any lights when the other toys did?
I used to wish as a kid they'd make a plaster moulding set or something like that, so you could Army build Storm troopers etc [Parents wouldn't let me have multiple figures the same either]
Star Wars Action Fleet was my main thing.
BROKEN VADER: I was the best fighter pilot
DESERT RAT: Until you've lost your arms
I'm surprised that Palitoy didn't make the X-wing apart of Space Force in the Action Force universe.
