  • This winter we tested the new Supair BASE harness from Raul Rodriguez, again we´d like to share our experience and thoughts with you. Very happy to hear about your feedback - it helps to look at one situation (in this case a reserve system) from differnet agels with different oppinions which are shared in an open discussion - therefore I am very happy about your feedback.
    Thanks to:
Thermik Magazin and Franz Altmann for providing us with the harness
Supair for letting us use parts of their movie (PR Base System Part 1 & 2)
Pál Takáts for letting us use parts of his movie (Test of the new Supair BASE harness Mactwisttwisttwist with 12.5 m2 Thriller)
Sergiu & Andi for helping us film

Having skydived for 5 years and experiencing reserve deployment this is without doubt the safest system for any serious malfunction.

Hi, thank you for your feedback. I am very glad about your statements. Information I got from Adrenaline Base: Dear Alois, you are correct : still, many base jumpers do not pass the brake lines throught the guide ring on the risers, to be able to clear line over. BUT we have good feedback on the Tail gate (+12 years), used during the packing. .......

In case of a lineover you will get a spinning canopy like a heavy cravate, and you wont be abel to clear it. you will probaly though your round reserve and get a canopy/reserve entangle(like most does in autorotation), so keep them clear so you can though them and land on B-risers.

Nobody has reported line over using the tail gate. Also, prior to the tailgate devellopement, we could see on the base canopies some burns, on the side, due to small line over clearing by itself (and not noticed by the jumper during opening). Today, we do not find any burns like in the past. So Tail gate is very efficient. More and more base jumpers keep now the brake lines into the ring. for this reason + what Raul explained we decided to pack the rescue this way You can be very confident in it

      This statement is incorrect.
Manufacturers of base equipment are still asking not to use the ring slider off. See Apex manual.
I see this new trend and confess that sometimes for one BASE i am also keeping the ring, but this is wrong and risky.
Clearly, for BASE, You should not use the ring without slider. The risk of lineover exists and every year there are some accident/incident.
Now, this is not a Base equipment, and manufacturer had to balance risk and benefit. In this case, they analysed and concluded to keep the ring, so we need to follow their instructions.
As a certified rigger, for clients i follow mfg instructions but for my own equipement i do not use the rings. It is more delicate to pilote the canopy, but opening safety is maximized.

They say that it will open in less than 5 seconds, every video I've seen it has opened in less than 3!

Fantastic...I know which will be my next harness! Thanks for bring PG into the 21st century. So, where can you purchase one from?

BUT i do recomend you getting velcro on your handles so you dont loose them by acsident while opening the canopy..
If you through 1 line or loose it by opening, pop the otherone,to stop the rotation, but keep the remain line in your hand and land just like that

Nice video. It's funny that so many years after it was made this is still not a standard in PG. Coming from skydiving, I only recently got into paragliding. I was surprised to find out what kind of reserves people use. Kind of scary. Naturally I feel much more comfortable under a BASE canopy, than a round or square. My skydiving main and reserve are already 7 cell canopies, so I would feel at home. Unfortunately, it seems that in most cases this is (still!) not really an option there's only one harness that supports it. :(

This is the safest harness to date -- no discussion. But how is it for flying in general? :-)

This system is definitely not for the average paragliding-"pilot". Even sup'air only sells it to paraglider-pilots who are either skydivers/base-jumpers or speed flyers. You really need to know what you're doing if you actually fly this as your everyday-harness. What I would like to know is, if the base canopy sup'air uses, is vented or unvented?

    DUDE
Slider off 09:30 BASEjumpers DONT route through the guide rings slider off!!! werry important,in the vid you says that more people start route through the guide rings,EVEN when using the tailgate.. DO NOT jump your BASE canopy w brake lines routed through the guide rings even while using tailgate..
