This is my reaction to THINGS GERMANS LOVE (and foreigners just don’t understand why)
In this video I react to things that German people love including jackets, bread and dubbed movies.

The Bud Spencer and Terrance Hill movies were more popular in Germany than in any other country in the world, because there was a great guy that had a lot of artistic freedom 'translating'. He made them really cool and gave them ridiculously funny lines that weren't there in the Italian original.
The Name was Rainer Brandt. That reminds me of a Story Bud Spencer one told: In "Plattfuß am Nil" there was a midget actor who had to pull of a stunt and say some lines, but after he had done the stunt, he started crying because he forgot the lines and Bud just said: Don't worry, Rainer will fix that in Berlin.
9:32 so on that note, the really big, legendary actors have their "own" voice actor, who dubbs them in almost every movie they are in. The lesser known actors however get voices from a Pool of unspeficic voice actors. Their dubs may change with every movie.
The interesting thing is you can find The moment in a legendary actors filmography at which they became famous. Di Caprio in his early work has a standard-voice-actor, but somewhere down The line he become big enough to get a permanent one
Smaller Actors usually have a standard VA as well - not just the legends. The reason why they change them at some point is often just issues with budget/salary or schedule. If the voice changes significantly this can sometimes be the reason for a recast as well.
David Nathan is probably one of the big legends in German dubbing.
Dubbing is a big thing in Germany. And it's not only that every movie actor has its own voice actor throughout a movie, but throughout his lifetime, if possible! In some cases one voice actor dub's more than one movie actor.
I really hate subtitles because I want to “see” the movie and not “read” the movie 🤣
i get it, but if you grow up with them, you get FAST scanning the text, and it is nice to hear the "soundscape" of a different country/language... swedish, russian, chinese, you name it...

What she doesn't think of, about the german tourists in New Zeeland is, that they are on vacation. So, they don't have their whole wardrobe to choose from. They have to decide what clothes they will take with them and therefore they choose the most practical ones and wear them then every day. Out of vacation it's a bit different, but still we like to wear the practical way, because of the german weather 😜
I totally agree! Especially when I travel so far, I want to see something of the country including hiking trips. But you are restricted in what you can bring with you in a plane. Shoes for example are heavy.
"Dubbed movie" as a callout seems so strange to me - very anglocentric take. Pretty much any country that has a big enough market for voice acting to make sense does that. Heck, english speaking countries do that all the time, just obviously not for american or british productions.

I remember "The Persuaders" (German: "Die Zwei") was very popular in German because of the dubbing adding a lot of humour to the movie (intentionally). I think the same is true for the Bud Spencer and Terence Hill movies. German dubbing and translation sometimes adds a lot to the original material, even for novels and comics. Donald Duck and Scrooge McDuck (Dagobert Duck in Germany; the comics been sold as "Das Lustige Taschenbuch") stories are the most favored Disney comics in Germany because of the effort the original translator put into them.
I started to prefer OV as a student when I started getting my TV shows "on the open seas". You eventually start noticing the flaws in dubbing more over time and get used to the original actor voices. Of course, I only do this for English movies, because that's the only other (relevant for movies and TV) language I can understand.
interestingly enough, "The Persuaders" was re-dubbed in britain after the success of the dubbed show in germany in a similar kind of humorous style.
Sadly, one of the main authors and dub voice who made the rather boring "Persuaders" series a very funny and successful TV series in Germany, Rainer Brandt, just recently died. He was the voice of Tony Curtis in the series and elsewhere.

Adriano Celentano movies should be mentioned as well. Having said thst, These are examples with fantastic dub, which is by far not the norm. Most dubs, especially in comedies are terrible, which might not be the voice Actors failure - its hard to replace the original on screen chemistry and subtilty. Imagine the Kaisermühlenblues or Monaco Franze in English Dub

We love bread because our bread is genuinely good. I had a little Australian boy at the daycare centre where I work. He loved the bread and the pretzels we had for snacktime.
Dubbed is often better than the english original, esp. South Park, LOTR, Simpsons, Scrubs...
its kind of funny usually actors have the same voiceover actor so its realy anoying if there is a new one dubbing this special actor whos voice you "know"
And often I don't recognize the original voice of the actor. For me they sound weird.
I remember it took me months to get used to the new voice of Captain Picard in Star Trek: The Next Generation after the voice actor changed after season 5 or so.
As a german, one of the main reasons we are so appalled by bread culture in other countries is honestly also the health factor of it.
Its not like i cant appreciate the taste of white bread / toast, its more about the massive amount of sugar in it, which is really bad for your weight management. Its all about the choice tho.
Germans tend to be very conscious about health stuff considering we have whole government agencies to make sure nothing harmful is in our food and stuff like "Stiftung Warentest" and other testing agencies to compare items with each other in terms of quality and also how healthy they are. Sure we have a lot of overweight people too, but that is because they choose to eat unhealthy, not because unhealthy food is the only thing available, which tends to be the norm in some countries, especially in terms of everyday food like bread etc.

For Hugh Jackman, his German voice actor is Thomas Nero Wolff - who is also the new standard voice actor for Tom Hanks AND he was the German voice for "Monkey Fist" in "Kim Possible"
Someone who's got REALLY famous with his great voice dubbing a Hollywood actor is Manfred Lehmann, the German voice for Bruce Willis^^
Mentioning Brad Pitt, his German standard voice actor is Tobias Meister, who is also the German voice for Master Yoda from Star Wars and many, many, many, many.... more XD
Our German voice actors are just the peak of arts and should be awarded und recognized like those in Japan ❤
She said it herself: That outdoor fashion "fetish" only exists for practical reasons. Considering the weather can change very quickly especially in spring and autumn, it's just logical so many people here like that kind of clothing. Whereas running around in leggins or other sportsgear in the supermarket or god knows where is just lazy and looks cheap and not very classy...

The most genius translations to German movies you‘ll ever see are the Terence Hill & Bud Spencer ones 😄
It's not just the dubbing because of the translation, it has saved boring films completely. The recently deceased Rainer Brandt was one of these masters of dubbing. The best example is the rather average crime series "The Persuaders!" ("Die 2" in German) with Tony Curtiss and Roger Moore. In the German version they only make stupid jokes in hair-raising situations.
"Oh, you paint?" "Did you think I massage the brush."
"Thank you, very pushy." instead of very friedly.
"That is the worst coffee I have ever had in my life?"" It's not coffee, it's dishwater.""Oh, sorry, but then again it is very rich in taste."
"Would you like something wet up there?""A little Scottish friend in liquid form.""With pre-sucked ice cubes?"
I love dubbed films! English films I do understand about 40 to 60 percent (depends on the accents they use; for example the movie "Gilbert Grape" is not understandable for me in English, but "Sleepy hollow" is). Dubbed is 100 percent. And! Some dubbings are better than the original. For example "The lord of the rings". We have 4 hobbits from the shire, a land a little bigger than Berlin. But they all have different accents. And Frodo refuses to pronounce the name "Gandalf" right from the beginning of the first film until the end of the last film. That really makes me mad.
As a German, I am quite proud of our dubbing community. They always do a fantastic job. This is also because we were translating American and Movies from all over the world shortly after the war. Of course, it was also because our cinema and film culture was largely in ruins.
I also heard that the script writers for the German dubs often don't translate 1:1. So of course the content remains largely the same. But care is taken to make the lip syncing look as natural as possible. In addition, German phrases are used that describe the same thing as the original sound recording. For example, "It's raining cats and dogs" becomes "Es schüttet wie aus Eimern" 1 to 1 "It pours down like buckets".
To answer your question, I personally like to watch either the german or OT without subtitles when it's in English. But I think I am the minority still, I even have no problem with slang if it is not to extrem. The reason is that when you understand the language 99% of the time you invest to much energy into reading the subtitles as well. Also you think about the difference between what you heard and how it was translated in the sub. Just to much interferance imo.
I love English and I started watching movies only in English a few years ago, but I have to say, the quality of German voice actors is amazing. You don't miss out on anything except the lip sync, and you only notice that if you focus on it. Sometimes the German dub is way better, like Bud Spencer/Terence Hill movies or "Die Zwei" (the persuaders). Which reminds me, I have to buy that box.
There are actually a few legendary German voice actors because they have a very distinctive voice and are also used regularly. According to a Wikipedia entry, Rainer Brandt, who unfortunately passed away this year, dubbed over 26 actors, including Bud Spencer, Elvis Presley, John Lennon, Jean Paul Belmondo, Tony Curtis, Oliver Reed, etc. Sometimes you notice that you are dubbing another actor has already heard.
So German bread doesn't have to be extremely hard, it depends on the type. White bread should be fluffy, whereas black bread and gray bread are harder but are still easy to chew compared to a piece of wood. I might like the bread that is available in Great Britain or Denmark when I get so old that my teeth no longer work. Unfortunately, in my opinion, the quality of bread has declined in Germany. Small bakers are becoming fewer and fewer and the large bakeries are very profit-oriented, i.e. short fermentation times, which is not good for the bread.
I'm German... I like hiking... I've got dozends of shirts, vests and jackets of Jack Wolfskin, The North Face, Mammut... Hits the point pretty well :D
Dubbed movies: I am somewhere in the middle. I think it is a difficult art and craft amd the challeges are great so I think they are really doing a good job most of the time. But there are some things that get lost or tramsfor.ed here and there so it is also nice to watch the original movie with the original audio track.
Fubbing companies try to keep the same German voice actor for the the same actor, esp. after they have gained some recognition in a certain role. But if course it's not always possible, die to availability. There may be scheduling conflicts, a voice actor may be sick or die, so sometimes the have to replace a familiar voice. And especiall for young actors at the beginning of their carrer, especiall in supporting roles it can still switch around a bit more.
Puns, word play, cultural references are sonetimes hard to translate. If a famous person from.pop culure or national.history is mentioned or referenced i. The OG movie, that person or their cultural significance may not be as familiar to a german audience. So, in that case they often try to repalce it with a reference to a person with similar features in Germam pop culture. For example, if a character in the mivie comkares another character to a well known hot, fat, funny, smart, cute, or problematic person from U.S. cultire, they might just replace that name with a well known hot, fat, funny, smart, cute, or problematic person from German pop culture, so that the statement that is being communicated can be understood by the audience.

Trekking clothing is most commonly seen in spring and fall, when weather conditions can change quickly within a day. In such circumstances, trekking clothing is very practical as it is specifically designed to offer the appropriate protection and maximum comfort in a wide range of weather conditions.
I watch my movies in the original language, whenever possible. But there are some voice actors, who sound better than the real voice 😀
5:14 German saying "Es gibt kein schlechtes Wetter, nur schlechte Kleidung". Since I live on the german shores to the (baltic) sea, 'Jack Wolfskin' (or similar brands) is a must-have. It's not fancy, but practical.
Dubbing: In foreign movies and TV shows I prefer the original voices plus subtitles (if needed). It is very strange and irritating to hear e.g. Brad Pitt, Sean Penn, Tim Robbins, Gary Sinise, Robert Downey jr, etc. dubbed by the same german actor (Tobias Meister), or, the other way around, foreign actors occasionally dubbed with different german voices.
Bread: Don't get me started. It's not 'hard', it's crusty. And rich on the inside.
Usually I stick to the original, but the best way to experience an Arnold Schwarzenegger movie - especially Terminator - is when you are listening to the great voice of Thomas Danneberg (who also did the voice for Sylvester Stallone and many others). And that is kinda funny since Schwarzenegger is a native german speaker.
The bread thing is maybe a tricky topic. It is soo much about whar you grew up with. Even inside Germany we have local specialities which are unknown or at least uncommon in other parts of the country. And I am guilty of missing German Bread when on vacation. BUT! other countries have other yummy types of bread as well or other food in general.
Typically, an actor/actress has one corresponding voice actor/actress. So yes, over many movies certain actors/actress have their unique german voice. Exceptions are for lesser known actors, or (sadly) when an voice actor/actress dies, e.g.for Sylvester Stalone, there could be different. Rule of thumb is, if a film had a good budget, then there is also a proper dubbing.
Over the time I learned to recognize voice actors. For example, Peter from Family Guy and Will Smith shares the same voice. It is fascinating that some voice actors/actress could do other type of voices, so it's not even obvious that it's the same voice actor/actress for different people. (A good example is Tobias Kluckert, google him.)
I want to emphasize that german dubbing is really, really good. But I didn't know that until lately. I used to think it's common everywhere. But now I think it is the German expectation that this is done properly. (But the fact that it partly led to changes in dialogue in the 1980s is another matter entirely.)
dubbing takes away easter eggs and jokes mostly but it is ok to have a choice. As a kid i watched a lot NL tv, they do subtitles, helps when learning english (and dutch).
I love beeing outdoors, so I also wear so called Trekking-Gear.
Maybe I had just bad luck, BUT Jack Wolfskin gear isn't that sturdy and reliable as I wished it would be.
Personally I prefer Fjällraven, Salewa, Snugpak and TT. Yeah, they may not come cheap, but they can last a decade or even longer.
Nearly every movie in a foreign language is dubbed in Germany. However, certain TV channels offer an additional audio track with the original language. In cinemas you often can choose between the dubbed and the original version of a film. There are certain cinemas that are dedicated to movies in their original language.
The dubbed version is almost always superior because the sound of the voices is done in a tone studio. Every original is obviously done on set with the little mike hanging just out of the picture, resulting in much lower voice quality and way too prominent surrounding noise. I think the original should re-do the voices in a studio and dub itself to reach that quality.
As much I love most dubbed movies, I no longer can watch Jeff Dunham this way since I watched the original 😂
It´s usually the same actor, not always
Would think, that sometimes dubbing could be funnier than the original, as they need to develop the dialogues. Just know that Oliver Kalkofe, a well-known comedian (sort of Kabarett), does a lot of dubbing and dialogue direction including a certain style and jokes.
Some voices are "better" sounding than the original.
What will be probably different, is the Sound overall. Have sometimes problems to understand english dialogues cause they are placed within the noise that is happening in the scene. The dubbed dialogues are often better to understand, cause they are more in front of the noise and sounds of the movie.
Sometimes good, sometimes not so good, if you take for example the dubbed version of Das Boot. Which is for sure top, but it has less atmosphere than the original.
The quality of the dubbing industry here is overall really good. So maybe it's not comparable to other countries. Not sure.
The thing about the clothing is, that most Germans won't see it as tracking gear. It's gear for rough weather, and while you want to be prepared for this kind of weather while tracking, Germans want to be prepared when they are going for a walk too. You have to keep in mind that the criticism comes from people who a) doesn't go for a walk at all and know only war weather.
When Germans ridicule "athleasure" it's less that it's the wrong style for the place, but more that it is too revealing and tight-fitting for being in public with it. It is acceptable in the gym, because there it provides the needed cooling for the body and it is less public there... but it feels like going to work in swimming shorts. If I can see your camel toe, to me you are basically naked with a layer of paint.

your question at min 9 is a good one. when a actor is famous enough he gets a fixed voice actor. but theres no rule for that. the film companys just start to hire the voice actor who they think is linked to an upcoming actor the most over and over again. so overtime they become "the voice" of leonardo decaprio, for example. and yes, there are specialy famous voice actors. the voice actor for bruce willis must be the best example, he is doing a lot of radio comercials since bruce willis isnt acting anymore. and its working, it feels like bruce willis is doing advertising for the local supermarket. :D
Comparing original with dubbed over movies: Jokes aren't always the same or as funny. That's why I prefer especially comedy content in the original English. But the technical quality of the voice recording is indeed very good and often more clear than the original, just better to understand acoustically. Lips not synchronous: You get used to it like with cartoons and just don't even recognize it anymore.

Reception and German dubbing
While the series flopped in the USA (and therefore no further episodes were made), the show was a success in Great Britain, Australia and several European countries. The series even achieved cult status in Germany. This was probably also due to the dubbing based on Rainer Brandt's dialogue books, some of which differ considerably from the original: While the English original is also a crime series with humor, the German version uses flippant and funny sayings ("Hands up - I’m an armpit fetishist!” or “Sleep well in your bed frame!” …) added. There were also allusions to the German broadcaster or television as such. Danny Wilde commented on stopping in the no-parking zone with the remark: “I always do that in front of ZDF.”[11] In another episode the following comment was made: “Stop the sayings, they’ll stop the next episode!”[ 12] Brandt even satirized the free translation of the dubbing as such in the series: to Judge Fulton's remark, "You've already let out a lot of sayings that weren't to everyone's taste," he has Danny Wilde answer: "People who would rather Hearing original texts is of no interest!”[13] With this series, Brandt finally established his so-called Schnodderdeutsch.
Rainer Brandt said in several interviews that Tony Curtis, who understood German, had three episodes of the German version sent to him after filming the first season and was so enthusiastic about it that he suggested continuing the series on the condition that Brandt would too should write the original scripts. According to Brandt, this plan failed because Curtis and Moore fell out.[14]
I prefer the dubbed version. I understand English quite well. But unfortunately not at native speaker level so it happens from time to time that I don't understand something. Then I have to pause the video and research the word or repeat the passage several times if it was spoken unclear. And that ruins the whole movie experience for me.
Especially when the actors don't speak clearly, f.e. Brad Pitt...

Dubbed movies are standard in Germany. And I think they do it really well and it makes watching a movie convenient. Subtitles are a distraction and I cannot enjoy films with subtitles as much as dubbed versions. But they all have a kind of artificial sound. The voice-actors sound nearly better, you can understand every word, it just isn’t natural. Some actors have stupid voices in the dubbed films. (Bad examples: Eddie Murphy, Jeff Goldblum, Robert De Niro) As I can understand English, I prefer viewing the original version with ENGLISH subtitles, not German. Because translation is never perfect - or sometimes: too perfect. And if I cannot follow, because they are talking too fast, I get help from the subtitles. I would never again watch a Hitchcock or a Tarantino film in the dubbed version. Never.
This dubbing is a thing in Germany. I do not want to say Germans "love" it. Before the internet you got hard times finding a possebility to watch movies and shows in English. Some may remember that there is no more than one audio track on a VHS and that there were also different formats of US and EU VHS. English versions were hardly available here in Germany.
The dubbing scene here became also very good (80th US-Show were terrible dubbed at that time) as she mentioned.
And SOMETIMES the German voices were much better (respectively familier) than the original ones. E.G: very, very famous is the voice actor of Bruce Willis. In Die Hard 3 Bruce got another voice actor. This was catastrophic!
Actually there were quite a few movies shown in German and the Original Language (English most of the time but not only) on TV since the 80s (Zweikanalton). And as far as i remember there were also VHS recorders who were able to record both languages. So actually you could have watched movies in other languages if you felt the need. But why would you want to do so? And by the way: Why do you think it's "SOMETIMES" better than the original? The voice actors most of the time are professional actors and therefor fully qualified to produce high quality dubbings. What do you think makes the original screen actor a better voice actor then the one in the studio?

What makes you think I don't like the voice actors? The lady in the video has already said that the German voice actors are very good.
However, beyond the big movies, some TV-Shows (Dallas and what not) have reduced synchronization to absurdity.

If you want to know how German dubbing works try to look the German trailer version of a film you know
I've heared it a lot from americans in my life how surprised they are we germans dub everything, but thats so one sided thinking. What if 90% of the movies and series were NOT made in the US but in Europe or elsewhere so they would have to watch them in chinese, german, russian, italian etc... Then they still would prefer the original actor's voice and learn a different language to understand everything or prefer reading subtitles ?? I highly doubt it... And there was this show "DARK" on Netflix some years ago which was very popular, but it was a german show with german actors speaking yes: german - and guess what: they then dubbed it into english, so english speakers could watch and understand it, so there you have it.... Many english native speakers are just so used to it that everything is in english (like music songs as well) they just take it for granted and cannot think from the other perspective, but I was very glad especially as a kid grewing up with Sesame Street or Star Trek that I could watch all that in MY own language... And by the way some movies and TV shows are even better in the german version than in the original. Especially stuff from the 70's or 80's. Other movies are better in their english original so I like I can choose and enjoy both versions. And also by the way, we don't call it "dubbing" but "synchronizing" because the translation is done in a way, it not only matches the meaning of the sentences but also how the words are spoken and lips forming sounds, so it is very LIPSYNC as well (as good as possible) and not just "dubbing" an audio track.... And done by real actors of course, not just translators. But Antoinette here said she now loves it, so she's got it.

Some Movies actually were more or less boring in the original film and only got really good and succesful by the Dubbing. Terrence Hill and Bud Spencer for example, or a series Like „die Zwei“. Thanks Rainer Brandt. Who sadly past away quite recently. RIP! Most Dubs are really really good.
Mostly dubbed version for german cinema is done much better than the original (English or other versions)
Only lower budger dubbing for serials ect I prefer Original English version/with subtitles for non-english movies.
I have a "Outdoor" Jacket - buyed maybe 20 Years ago and still looking like new. You can add a winter "inner layer" or remove it so it is warm enough for Spring and Autumn without and with you can use it in winter. Still water-proof. So why should I not use it as every day jacket in this seasons?
And I ignore the newest haute couture style of the year. After now 20 Years the jacket was 3 times the newest shit style and "Oh last year hip color" - inbetween.
Is it really better to buy a new cheap made jackets every 2 months only to increase the garbage and give little children in Vietnam some work in the coloring with poisonous colors (that ends in the backyard)?

When it comes to animated movies,series,the german Version is way better than the english og.somehow they got rid of voice actors and now just cast big names,who don't know what they're doing.
Voice actors are known to cinephiles, but not to everyone by far
When you grow up with dubbed over voices then it feels/sounds normal to you. They spent a lot of afford on good lip sync and matching voices. Only sometimes it sounds a bit weird when Drew Barrymore and Sarah Michelle Gellar speak with the same voice.
Matching voices? They have the most exaggerated pronunciation with voice actors who have such special voices that stick out and don't sound like how 99% of people sound. I can't listen to it anymore because it sounds so unnatural and is far from the original actors' voices that usually sound like normal people

german bread is only good if u find a bakery who bake it themselves. Bread from the supermarkets is very low quality and does not represent german bread culture. even normal bakeries dont bake themselves, so be aware that you need to find a real bakery where they do everything themselves.

I certainly prefer watching in english but growing up in the 90s etc. you couldn't really do anything about it. What happens regularely is that the voice actor of a long running tv show dies and then they have to find a new one and it can be very offputting. One famous example is the voice actress of Marge in the Simpsons, who was then recast with Anke Engelke (unfunny german comedian/sketch actress, i think you reacted to her before) and especially in the first couple years it was so extremely off that it was almost impossible to watch. I think objectively she's doing a good job and has found a good rough and raspy Marge voice but after 15 seasons or so the transition to a new voice was extremely weird. However, in general the dubbed versions are mostly in high-german and that can sound extremely artificial and unbeliebable. Or germans voices for american cops, fbi, cia etc. is extremely unbelievable because these cowboy, hero, special agent type cop doesn't really fit into germany, so the german voice is not helping to make it authentic.
I cant stand dubbed movies or tv shows... once I started watching everything in original i couldn't understand why most people watch dubbed versions. You can't really appreciate the work of an actor when you don't hear his voice, his emotions. And pretty often the dubbing completely ignores dialects and accents, at least in video games! When I walk through a south american jungle in a game and every npc speaks perfect german... that kills immersion!
Yes we have one of the best dubbing industries in the world, but i stick to the original!

We do not "love" dubbed movies, we just grew up with them, are used to them.
I hate subtitles though, just give me the option to switch to the original audio.
Regarding the movies: Often the sound quality in the German version is even better than the original because the voices were recorded in a studio and not in the set
It is not a given that english voices aren't recorded in studio afterwards.

Also the German voice track is usually mixed a bit louder than the original. This is supposed to help the brain noticing the not fully fitting lip movements less.
i watch both dubbed and orginal what i have recognised the voices are damn low in originals usually the music and background is MUCH to loud and i prefere german when im tired for im not reading the subtitles i just listend and when im tired i regocnise that english is not my first langurage
But for everyone going to try: We are talking about German Bakery Bread ... not German supermarket bread... while some supermarkets do carry some bread that is ok for a day or two, most of it (especially the prepackaged one) is stale from the get go or get's stale within a day

Jack Wolfskin is actually a German brand for outdoor and functional clothing. So it's not too surprising that we often opt for this brand. At least it is widely available on the market.
My favorite brand is Vaude because they also produce pretty good cycling clothing. It's a little bit expensive but I usually buy the stuff if it's for sale.

Dubbing: There are some movies/series that are even better than the original. Because sometimes its not only word by word translation but rewritten to match german humour. There a few movies that flopped everwhere else but are famus in germany because the rewritten dubbinng was so hilarious and better than the original. But yes, sometimes things got lost in translation. Especially when trying translate english/us idioms or famous speeches that dont correlate to german.
Especially the Bud Spencer and Terence Hill movies.
In the original language (italian) they are more serious. But in german they decided to give it a more comical twist. And i love it.
Roughly translated example... "if you think you have a fool standing before you, then you are at the right adress"
German bread is what I missed most in the UK. 😂I didn't have any problems seeing movies or TV shows in english without subtitels, I went along well with people, but I really, really missed a german breakfast...

German dubbing is next level. The dubbing voices are mostly of high quality. Everytime I hear Al bundy's original voice as a German I am totally thrown off. This is not the Al Bundy I know. For German it simply does not matter if it is the actors original voice. You remember the voice which you heart first and that voice becomes the actor's voice, wether it's their original voice or not. Edit: the German voice of Al Bundy or Bruce Willis for example is so much cooler (they're deeper)
Same goes for John Travolta. His actual voice sounds girlish to me. 😂
And actresses as well: I detaste the original voice of commander Janeway! She's sounding so overreacted and artificial. I could not believe for real that she actually is commandeering a spaceship ...

Me too. The only Outdoor Brand clothing I have are Camel Boots (where reduced to maybe 45€ and my shoe size is between 47 and 48 (12.5 to 13inch) - a size you didn't get regulary in normal shoe shops ) but not because they are Brand-shoes more because I needed some and they where the only ones in my size below 150€.
Some actores have fixed voice actors or got fixed voice actors when they got more popular.
Manfred Lehmann for example is the vocie actor for Bruce Willis but he also did Kurt Russel, Dolph Lundgreen, Gerard Depardieu and James Woods.

I usually prefer the original version of movies and shows, especially if it's comedy I'm watching. A lot of britisch comedy is based on word play, which is very hard and sometimes even impossible to translate. But there are times, when the dubbed version just works better. All the shows and movies dubbed by Rainer Brand's studio for example. Also in Germany, English is considered a 'cool' language, while German is better suited for epic sagas and the likes. Lord of the Rings for example works much better for me in German than in English. Most people prefer the German version though, because they just don't speak English well enough to just enjoy a movie. I think the millenials are the first generation that grew up with considerable English influence (UA-cam, online gaming, etc.). My parents' English is barely ok to have a simple conversation, since they didn't have much contact with any English people or media what so ever. Except 'Dinner for One' of course.
There are some very recognizable german voice actor. Klaus-Dieter Klebsch is the german voice for (among MANY others) Alec Baldwin and Hugh Laurie.
Laurie found a fantastic voice for the icy sarcasm and Klebsch just nailed it.
German bread is healthy, will allways prefore it. - Dupped films - easier to watch, don´t have to read the subtitles.

A lot of dubbing actually makes or breaks a movie. For example, the old Danish film series "Olsenbanden" (in German "die Olsenbande") was very popular in the GDR (East Germany) because the East German film agency DEFA made very good German dubs, while West Germany made their own dubs, which were much more low-effort and corny (even by 1970s standards), which is nowadays regarded as the main reason the films never became quite as popular there.
About the dubbing... We didn't know the real voice of the actor and we are used to not paying too close attention to the lips.
I'm fluent in English and still doing mind the dubbed movies and series.
And yes, it's always the same voice actor for a certain actor. If he stops working and someone else takes over it's really weird for us, too.
Dubbing... To be honest, when you grow up with it, you don't really think about it at all. I'm a more mature man now and I can still remember very well the time when there was no private television, only public broadcasting in Germany (if you could receive 5 of those channels, you were lucky, because most people only received 3). And now and then, late in the evening, films were shown in the original language and with subtitles. Often French films, or from the East, from Poland, for example, still with the Iron Curtain. But that became less and less, because the introduction of private channels in 1984 triggered a "ratings pressure" that hadn't existed in this form before... And I'm just wondering whether our Scottish friend even knows the Persuaders, even though two absolute world stars, Sir Roger Moore and Tony Curtis, played in them. Have a look...

German dub is way better than most other dubs (as the woman in the video already explained on the polish example).
But over the last one or two decades I really have been appreciating the original versions of numerous movies and TV shows.
Great examples, where the german dub kinda suck are (imho) "The Expanse" or "Lucifer". The former looses completly the belta-lang in ger dub and with it all the wonderful dialects the actors are bringing in. The latter is just unwatchable for me in ger dub. Imo they messed up to choose the voice actor they did. Tom Ellis' voice has so many intonations (I hope I did not make this word up), so many levels of emotions, which the german voice actor isn't able to deliver...
On the other hand, "Game of Thrones" for example had a really, really good dub. Though I still prefer watching in english 😃
About dubbing: Most dubbed movies and shows have a really good dub, and we watch it dubbed. Some however have a noticeable bad voice acting, and that's especially true for Animations, so my boyfriend and I switch over to English instead. Often, the German dub is also clearer and easier to understand audio vise.
I personally want to watch everything in the original English when I watch on my own, because I'm so used to it by now.
Also, famous actors have a specific Voice Actor here, so their voice sounds the same in all the movies. And some voice actors speak several actors, which can be very funny when both actors are in the same movie. The Expandables was quite funny for that reason alone (...and only that reason...) because you had 2 or 3 actors that are normally not in the same movie, suddenly voiced by the same Voice Actor XD
Or a Voice Actor narrates an advertisement and you feel like a specific actor is narrating it instead, because you recognize the voice XD
german dubs are very good and widely known actors get their "personal" dub actors. I mostly prefer subtitles, but there are some animated movies where I just love the german dub, especially when it's something I remember from childhood (I grew up german). mentioning german's obsession over jack wolfskin without saying birkenstock in the same breath feels a bit weird to me, I guess because my own dad and my father-in-law loved both, but I'll have to agree they aren't synonymous by far. I consider myself too fab and sparkling to prefer function over form to the degree germans do, but they REALLY do. I agree it makes sense, just not for me. used to say 'I no longer let my parents tell me what to wear, so why should the weather?', but among the german public you can easily feel like the odd one out.
girl has never been to Spain or France. they only wear trekking, hiking or biking clothing. I work at a museum and I've had spaniards come in dressed in full biking gear... to look at an exhibition....
About dubbing. The thing is this. The german actors, who dub the movies are reaaaally good actors. So. If the Movie is an english movie, with tripple AAA actors, I enjoy it in the original version. But, if the original actors are not that great, the movie gains with the voices of the better german actors. And thats, where i choose the dubbed version.
Trekking gear? You never know when it's going to rain, or snow, or a volcano breaks out. Or the train is late, and you have to walk home at night.
Germans also walk by foot a lot more than for example Americans.

There are only 2 Series where I cannot stand the german dubbing: "My Name is Earl" and "Trailer Park Boys".
