    Deciding between Europe and the States when it comes to bringing up kids isn't a hard decision at all in my view. No contest - I wouldn't consider the USA for a moment. Both safety and basic educational standards are incomparably worse. The quality of food, the cost of college education and healthcare, social and cultural values, the list goes on and on.

      @@ianmarshall9144 I have not been, and I'm sure my coworker has not travelled all of india in his time there. I'm not going to argue about what the reality is, but the truth is that India also has one of the most rapidly growing population size and is a country that has had a lot taken from them when the british colonized them. The result of poverty is to be expected, but I will not argue the point of the cast system because I am just too uneducated on the matter to tackle that topic. I've heard my fair share from the media that it is bad, but you probably know how flawed that perception would be to begin with, but I absolutely believe you that a cast system has it's own way of contributing to that problem.
      The US often claims to be the most wealthy country on the planet, and they claim to provide everyone with equal opportunity in life, and yet you still end up with an amount of homeless people that just does not really reek of wealth in my mind. The experience my coworker probably also reflects with what expectations he went to either country. I didn't want to make this point in my initial comment, because that is in some ways implied that he was shocked, because he had different expectations. You have to imagine how we watch TV, how New York looks on TV, where most streets are rather clean, but movies about India often feature a poverty subplot and how there is an issue with the cast system. What would you expect from th at representation if you travelled to either for the first time?

    Yes, as a kid, teenager and even up until my 30s I also had the American Dream BUT like the guy in the video mentioned, everything is just too expensive. Not just getting a degree but even if you work fulltime, in case of a medical emergency the bills are heavy. In Germany studying is basically free of charge, except an affordable semester fee and if you work fulltime your health insurance comes with it. You even get paid sick days, which means if you get sick, you call in sick and you still get paid.

    The American dream is mostly a franchise, and it is not the worst getting that out of the system...
    Also, the entitlement keeps me amazed especially nowadays. Americans should be grateful and not proud, perhaps then they wouldn't be so salty on the political side.
    I was never proud to be a German, because nobody told me to be, and I am still a patriot. And I consider myself damn lucky for the place I was made in. Don't know if its the best in the world, but there are for sure many places much worse. 😆

      @@Christof_SmaulXL I think Germany is one good example that being proud is not the key to be a good patriot. The problem with the USA is that they are raised with such propaganda that they think there's no other place that allows you to be free or whatever. It's like for them it's the USA or nothing, no nuance.
      I don't think the USA is the best, but I don't think there's one best country. There are many countries better in some aspects, but that have other disadvantages compared to each other/ the USA.
      But people still in the idea of the American dream refuse to see that the freedom they talk about in the USA is really not unique.
      Also, there can't be one best country as everyone's life is different. The USA is not the best place for me but it can be more convenient to other people.

      I feel you, I'm from spain, and i have a healthy dose o patriotism on me and nobody taught me that, in fact, quite the opposite, in Spain being patriotic or liking the national simbols like the flag is seen negatively. But i just like my country, it's people, it's vibes, it's views, and i'm proud of being Spanish, despite all it's flaws and I refuse to give up the only symbol, in a country with so many divisions where we find new reasons to hate each other every month, that unite us all ❤🇪🇦
      Don't need a teacher telling me all my youth that my country is the best... I'll decide that by myself 😅

    • @nicoladc89
      @nicoladc89 Місяць тому

      The American dream is "hey, here if you have a great idea, you are very lucky etc... you can become very rich". Yes, the same happens everywhere else.
      For example, the richest man in Italy was (he died a couple of years ago) a man born an orphan of his father, who was given into foster care by his mother who, without his father, did not have the money to support him. He began to work at 15 and his employers convinced him to go to the academy instead of the workshop. He did it and at 23 opened his little eyeglass frame workshop called Luxottica. Today around 30% of eyeglass frame in the world are made by Luxottica that owns brands such as Ray Ban, Oakley, Persol and produce eyeglass frame for Prada, Chanel, Gucci, Tiffany, Versace, Armani, Ralph Lauren etc. (But he's not the only one poor man who became rich in Italy, Enzo Ferrari, who at 20 years old was crying on a bench in the snow, with his clothes frozen because he wasn't hired as a worker at Fiat, for example).
      No one in Italy would ever dream of passing off his story as the Italian Dream.
      I think that the American Dream is the apotheosis of divide and conquer. You can become rich, you have to work, you, you, you... If you're poor is your fault look at all the opportunities you have.
      In Europe is not like that, in Europe is we want to work less hour per week, we want to get paid more, we want the opportunity to go to the best schools etc...

    Why do i heavily critizise it often in other comments? Well they are the richest country in the world in terms of gdp even if not gdp per capita. Our terrible weather? Well, today is the 15th of September and we've just enjoyed glorious summer weather (without the heat that is killing people on hotter latitudes) since the beginning of May, with just enough rain to keep nature looking fresh and green.
      The society is built on trust, safety, equality, freedom, free education and universal health care, in other words, on the values and reality of being a Nordic welfare state.
      No country is perfect, but the Nordic countries represent the best that there is at the moment. Today's problems are very recent and (in Sweden for instance) not systemic.
      As a teacher in a video about Finland put it:
      "It's not that we run around being ecstatically happy all the time, it's that the state gives us the means to become happy with our lives.."
      Please, read the report. You're allowed to use common sense. It's also a matter of comparisons and proportions...

    It’s funny because it’s the same in Denmark everything can be done online and all of that paper crap you see in many other countries is gone from Denmark. Now that I live in Spain it’s like going back in time 😂😂😂

      But there is also another side to this coin.
      If it weren't for Reagan, the USSR probably wouldn't have fallen and the whole of CEE would be in a completely different place, a place it didn't want to be.
      This will always be remembered positively for Reagan.

    • @QuentinPlant
      @QuentinPlant 2 місяці тому +1

      @@obserwator1766 Erm - because Reagan said something about "tear down this wall"?
      I'd take a look into a history book about the late 80s/early 90s in the Warsaw Pact countries and how + why they changed.

    • @obserwator1766
      @obserwator1766 2 місяці тому

      @@QuentinPlant Yes, it's worth reading, e.g. about the Reagan Doctrine and how this doctrine finished off the USSR economically and politically.
      I'm old enough to remember those times. I experienced them in Poland on my own back and ass with the help of police batons. I don't have to look in books to know how and why it changed.
      Btw. The destruction of the Berlin Wall is just a symbol, important but which had little practical impact on the collapse of the USSR.
