Well woth active, not the pick ups are meant but that there is an actual preamp built into the bass. With guitars, active refers to pickups, which , emgs (active pick ups) are used mostly for metal. There are also basses with active pick ups
I can’t figure out why fender thinks they need active circuits, they do a terrible job with them and they add NOTHING to the tone. They sound better passive. Every time.
Active basses need a good amp to shine. Fender amps aren't that way. And they should leave making active circuits to other brands who know how to make em right
It looks like they've done what other cheaper brands do: have the usual passive pickups and controls followed by a switchable active EQ. This is not good if you're after maximum signal integrity. There's a reason why EMG and others have the active circuit in the pickup itself: so that the signal is buffered straight away and thus less susceptible to noise, degradation or colouration due to impedance mismatches. It's not the "traditional" sound, sure, but EQ is still a thing.
@@stereoroid I agree with you. Active circuits should be constructed differently to get a different tone than passive circuits. When you make them switchable you’re not really getting the best of both worlds you’re getting the lesser of both.
Not awkward at all. Considering we're listening through compressed youtube audio, I take it with a grain of salt. Plus, who cares? That sound will be useful to someone, somewhere. There's absolutely nothing awkward about that. 🤔
Wow, Fender. For the first time ever on UA-cam, I *purposely* watched a 7 minute long ad, this Player Plus bass ad, from beginning to end. It came on before a vid I was about to watch and instead of clicking the "Skip" button like I do literally every time, I watched the ad. Good job! ❤️👍🎸
If you want left handed basses, I recommend Rickenbacker. Although left handed Rickenbacker basses are rare and expensive, they are the most comfortable and best sounding ones I've ever played.
@@ampthebassplayer I have 9 basses 2 are active(EB musicman sterling, stingray) and they see the least playing. Might pickup the green p-bass and leave it in passive mode.
If you use them in passive mode, is there a passive tone control? If you wanted to use the P-bass in a Mowtown-ish setting. Just the Split coil and tone rolled of?
No, there isn't - but I'm in the process of modifying mine to have one. You can use the parts and the diagram of the Deluxe Active P-bass from about 10 years ago to add a concentric control where the mid active control is.
My next bass will be the Jazz Bass 5 strings Player Plus🤩🎶 its sound is unique both passive and active, it's great, and I love the color it has, the Opal Spark, and I also like the mapple as a fingerboard, that bass, yes or yes, I will buy it🤩😎✌️
I've been playing a standard Fender jazz bass for 18 years, and I love it, but now I'm working with some guys who play reggaeton, I need a LEFT HANDED FENDER V, it can be a Squier... I don't want to change my sound or the brand of my instrument.
I tried a Fender Player Plus J bass and did not notice that it had a rolled fingerboard Is that feature only on the Plus guitars? If it is not rolled like the guitars it's like a big middle finger to bassist.
They call it “entry level” so that seasoned players will spend more. I’d play one of these, drop a set of either Fralin or Radioshop pickups into it if the stock pups weren’t right for me, replace the pots, and have a great live and studio player. BTW, I think that PG plays Lakland….I may be wrong…
Was really wishing when I heard about this that the five string was going to follow Charvel and Jackson (both div. of Fender?) and put out a 35" scale.
Hello! I bought this bass with only a pao ferro fingerboard. The 5th string doesn't sound at all. It is very much inferior in sound to the inexpensive Cort GB 35 JJ, which has the 5th string and generally low frequencies. I'm very disappointed because I thought I would get a bass that sounded next to the 2008 American Deluxe Jazz Bass. I was upset that it sounded even worse than inexpensive instruments. What should we do now? Maybe someone could make the 5th string sound?
@@0megalul309 They suck. I’ve played them, and that’s why all 3 of my Fender guitars are from the American Vintage line. Nothing beats my 1959 AVRI.. By the time I was old enough to start saving real money and had discovered that line they were discontinued and I had to get them on the secondhand market, which wasn’t bad at the time considering the ‘59 I bought for $1,700 is going for $2,000-$2,400 all day long in WORSE condition than mine lol
Guitars have gone up since consumers have been willing to dish out more and more for entertainment (ie video games and cell phones) Remember back in the 2000s when you could get an entry level fender for like 3-500 bucks and that 500 dollar model was honestly comparable to the USA American made versions. Nowadays cheap guitars are almost more palatable than expensive models because the differences just aren't that major to justify a 1000+ pricetag
So, essentially its an upgrade from the Mexican Deluxe series. Ne colours are amazing and the tone is LIT. The only downside its that the access heel-joint is noe gone, making the upper register a bit more uncomfprtable. Still a cool bass
I remember when I used to have the fender app. To this day I’m still pissed off that all of the songs, the teacher would say “this isn’t how the song is played but it’s similar” why tf would I be paying for the app than if the songs they “teach” aren’t even close to how tue actual song is

That Precision feature set is great. Really great playing by Pete in here too BTW.
That green is sweeeeeet
Fender...you had me at switchable passive/active mode. You complete me.
Pete Griffin back it at again
Well those are cool! Love the noiseless pickups!
I just got the Player Plus Jazz yesterday in aged candy apple red and it's gorgeous.

No more government subsidies for active basses!

Please add the Tequila Sunrise paint to a P-bass series. It's so sexy.
Is it true that on the Precision's passive mode you can't change the tone?
