The one thing I didn't seem to like about my 555 was I could not get audio effects on the mic/line in like I could with my SX and A, and my rca line ins would barely get sound through no matter what I was running into it. I felt like even with the velocity mode off I still had to smash the pads on my model too

I don't know if it's too late, but you should get a sp303 for what you're doing .the compressor on it is the better than all of them. I have the 555 a 303 and then 404a in the compressor in the 303 is by far is Superior. You're not missing anything on the 555...( Other than the D-beam. It's just bigger. If you're still interested I'll trade you for something.

im thinking of coping an sp 202 for pitching samples and an sp 555 for smooth beatmaking, sp404 is great and all but that metronome on the sp 555 that you can use for beatmaking without using the sequencer is huuuge for me

Definitely fuck with the 202. The pitch feature on there is pretty exclusive. It sounds like the pitch knob on a turntable. That's a good companion to any other SP for that feature Alone lol.
And yeah I got a 97 Civic Coupe. It's lowered. 😂
How you feeling the 303 and SX? Have a Korg KP3 for touch effects. And also an MPC. But I’m trying to pair an SP for extra knob shifts. I got a civic too lmao
@@adriannunez8868 SX + 303 = a lofi monster, I actually made it apart of my regular set up, i am hardly ever using anything else, SX got that SD card so itss quick and i can export to my PC, also UPDATE , my civic got stolen and gutted i am now driving a '67 VW xD
Danny VW I would honestly pick up both but I have the MPC on deck. So I really just would like one. Most people have said to get the SX... but besides the faster SD cards and stuff is the sound quality/effects any different? Im really focused on the tone. If I have to sacrifice some time for a better sounding SP I’m cool with it.

is the velocity sensitivity on the 555 that bad? i have a 404 and was thinking of getting a 555 mostly for the velocity :/
in my opinion, im not a huge fan of its responsiveness. but thats just me. also you can edit its function, to make it more or less responsive. so really, id recommend just trying it out for yourself. you might like it.
Idk if u still read comments here, but do u know if there is any way or if it makes sense to get a 555 if I'm used to doing my shit in ableton? Have a good deal on a 555 and wanted to pick up a sampler for like forever, I don't mind the 555 being not as portable as a 404, but would I fully have to go away from working in a DAW? what do you think of the 505? i have two og 404s and wanted to cop a 303 but the prices are insane right now. found a 505 for $250 and copped that yesterday, but it hasnt got here yet
good! you find one. its ILL. i got a few videos on my channel with me rocking the 505. what i liked about it is the effects are just like the 303. even the vinyl sim and compressor. it has a 4 part sequencer on it, visual waveform edit. all that.
ive owned 3 505s at different times over the years
the 303 is dope but at the prices theyre going for now. sheeesh.. kinda dumb. when i had one in 2015, that shit was 250-300.. 700$ is more than pushing it lol

Domingo Indigo I use the 404 with a M audio fast track pro and it works really well as an outboard fx in ableton but I don’t know if you can use usb on the 555

I have a question that might sound stupid but :
you made your loop (recorded from your sp404 sx) and then exported it to a pad, right?
And then you overdub from external source (your sp404sx again)
is that last track only fill with what you had when you overdub (the last percussion you had) or is the sample loop on it aswell ?

Well after I recorded that loop thru the loop capture, I saved it to pad. It just saves whatever's you recorded as if you recorded it directly.
@@ruffiankickloops I see. That means I can add phrases of guitar with the loop feature and have it isolate after and add it when I want on my beat.

@@drissfaridkong6148 yeaa this sp-555 id say is perfect for those who play instruments. its got the built-in input on top too. i used to record multiple 2 bar sequences of loops, and switch em up on the fly after saved to like 6 pads.

Not so much for beats but for building psychedelic tunes/collages of sound from samples and by playing and singing into it and messing with the effects. Overall would you recommend this machine? Thanks my guy! ✊🏿 Yeaa man. I think it's totally worth it regardless of memory. Cause there's internal memory as well which is a plus for swapping loops and drums between multiple cards. That's a plus.
Cons really if you're not a fan of the warped/time stretched samples, this can sometimes make samples sound really choppy depending on how much you stretch it. The sp-404sx/a sound better in that regard. But for the most part, it never bugged me. I have the 404 OG now instead of the 555. They the same with that so yea lol

How do I preview and access individual sounds i upload into the sd card at 32 gigs on an sp404sx?
i dont think im understanding the question. you wanna preview the sound after you upload em thru the Wave Converter Software? cause theres a preview button,
but you mean preview them on the 404 it self, all you'd have to do is press a pad that you put the samples on. simple.
theres no menu diving on a 404sx, everything plainly laid out.

The sp-555 when it first came out was about $800 but it was kind of a flop because it was so damn expensive. You can get one on eBay you still going to be paying about $500 plus upward to $690. It is a sampler worth getting and owning
yea i found this one for under $400 from the homie in japan. yea i remember looking in musicians friend back in 2010 and seeing this shit for $999.99. and i was mad as fuck, lol. same with the roland Gaia SH-01, that shit was expensive too. i found one for under $400 after i sold my 555

TBH. SP-404SX for the portability (batteries), SD Card (Instead of the CF from the 555) and the Size for deskspace.

I have a SP 505 but will be getting either a 555 or 404SX. I want to know the difference between the two.

There's really not the hugest difference workflow wise. But function wise, the 404sx has a "function" button with each pad being secondary functions. The 555 has button combinations instead of functions.
Also the 404sx takes batteries as an option, while the 555 doesn't.
555 has loop capture (shown in video), 404sx doesn't.
555 has the d-beam, 404sx doesn't.
555 uses CF card, 404sx uses SDHC cards. With the 404sx, you get waaaay more sample time. But the 555 ain't that far off.
Sp-404sx tracks transients a lot better than the 555. So when time stretching, the 555 gives off more artifacts. But it's your preference if you don't care about all of that. I know I didn't lol. Made beats sounds grittier

Like resampling? Yes. All of them can do that
External source resample is an option that the 303 can do, the 555 has the looper which can be used similarly.

@@theowave all the main line SP's can do this. You can use the effects while recording. You can use the looper to capture effects also.
If you have a certain workflow you do on the 303, chances are, you can do the same thing here.

Overall, is the 555 better/ versatile machine for beatmaking? That 404sx look tiny and maybe fun but 555 looks more serious.
The 555 is called a creative wave sampler, so that looper, and that super filter is really why this stands out. It's definitely a little more serious on that aspect, but they both (555 & 404) essentially serve the same purpose.
If you're a guy who rocks live instruments such as a keyboard, synth, Guitar etc. It's a no brainier.
If you don't need all that extra stuff. The 404 could save you some money and still get the job done.
I'd say if you got a 555 you be a happy beatmaker lol

the most important distinction that no one seems to be mentioning is the ability to overdub on the 555. you can't over dub or record while samples are playing on the 404sx.

Yeaaa the PO-33 KO from teenage engineering. You can run samples into that then pitch em up or down. The. Record it back into your SP

@@EagletonProductions even if you don't use the po33. There's other sampler options that can do it for you.. Roland MS-1, Sp-202, or even recording from your daw can do it for you.
@@ruffiankickloops Gotcha, seems like the sp-202 is the move considering the sound color and ability to use the dial to analogue pitch instead of a step down pitch. Also looks like sp-808s are just as cheap as the sp-202 these days. Same pitch effect and an hour of sampling time? am I missing something about the 808? Thx man.
@@EagletonProductions I've never used an sp-808. The 202 is more practical cause it's got the filter too. It could be very useful. I have some videos with 202 in em if you wanna see some examples of the 202 x 404sx combo. But yeaa haha.

in short, the 555 is a 404 OG with a LOOPER pedal, 4 extra pads, velocity sensitivity, a d-beam, and extra storage capabilities. lol. if you have the money for one over an OG, get the 555. but if all those extra features dont matter to you, and you like the portability, get the 404. the beat creation process is more or less the same. lol

@@MicaelAzevedo if everything on the 505 works correctly and comes with a large memory card + shipping included, 300 seem completely fine. That's how much I bought mine for. The shipping was expedited 1-day shipping tho lol I got that shit in 2 days flat.

Is there a difference in sound quality?
By default, kinda yea. But very subtle. The 555 sounds older. But literally like an lil bit if barely. But with time stretching, there's a bit of a cleaner effect on the 404sx. The 555 Crunches the transients of a sound up. I didn't mind it tho.
If your used to a daw, and you stretch there, you'll hear what I'm talking about, difference wise.
But there's other effects that sound exactly the same. Soo yeaa lol

@@djestes1 just cause there was a bump up on market demand on em. Since I copped for lower I sold it for higher. That was I could cop me a Korg Monologue. I already have a 404sx. So I figured having a 555 was over kill. Yes the 555 has the loop capture but for me, so does Ableton.
If you want portability plus smaller form factor and larger stronger for back up and sample time, get you a 404sx.
If you, don't care about batteries, got plenty of desk space, want that loop capture, want this to be the center of your set up, (dawful or dawless) or you just want 16 pads over the 12 on the 404sx, get you a sp-555
@@djestes1 side note, the 404sx renders stretched audio a lot better than the 555. I think this is cause the 555 is a year younger than the 404sx.
Also the 555 has 2 inputs and has velocity sensitive pads..

@@smitty9054 so if you don't like the screen diving, just sell it and get a 555. I just know if I had a deluge, I be a happy ass dude 😂😂. That think has 2 whole synth Engines and Sampler built into it. I'd put up with it for the sheer amount of capabilities. It's an all-in-one.
The 555 is a 404, with a looper, a better filter and velocity sensitive pads.
If you're looking for quick workflow, you can't miss with the 555.
But don't expect proper pitching (if that matters to you) because it's only really a pitch shifter and not able to do pitching by steps.
That's just the SP's for you tho.
Your workflow it's what's more important. If I had a 555 still, I'd trade you 😂😂

I like my boss rc 505, loop station the most but i think you got me wanting to keep the deluge and learn it, the deluge rabbit holes are extreme , i sampled a bunch of stuff on the looper and added the fx 🙏🤘
