After watching your video, of this gentleman & his '66,I have a new hero! In the early '80's,I lived about 30 minutes west of Kalamazoo. I was fortunate to own a '66 390 4 speed Fairlane. Also as I've mentioned before, a '67 Fairlane factory drag car. It had the optional fiberglass lift off hood. Couldn't be licensed for the street. Thank you so much Evan, for introducing us to these amazing men & their great Ford/Mercury cars!❤
I had one also built the same way but with a 2x4 aluminum Medium Riser intake. Man that car spun to 7500 8 days a week and never got it hurt. I put cross bolted mains on 2 and 4. Manual Steering. I loved that car. Family and kids were first. I’m fortunate to have owned and built some of Fords best unsung heroes and that is a treasure that keeps on giving.
These are great cars. Love the 66-67 Fairlanes. It was a shame that more were not sold. This one brings back memories. Nice guy. 👍 A friend of mine still has his 68 GT 390, 4 speed, Mustang.
I bleed Ford Blue, and have always loved the '66-'67 Fairlanes. Almost scored a '67 with a 289 when I was about to get my license, but my Dad was a real miser when it came to money and thought he wanted too much for it. Something with a big block was out of the question because "they only get 10mpg" plus he knew I would be blazing the roads with it. Ended up with a '65 Mustang GT with the factory fog lights, factory dual exhausts and pony interior with the 225hp 289 4V. And I still blazed the roads with that lol. I paid $500 for it. Of course this was 1973 and I wanted a Mach 1, which I have now. Those were the good old days. The parking lot in high school had Fairlanes, GTO's, Chevelle SS's, 340 Dusters, Z28 Camaros, Mustangs, even a '69 AMX. The best era of American cars in my opinion.
Thanks for this! That one is a true survivor, gorgeous. I finally bought one of these, couldn't afford when i was young, but i absolutely love driving it, and can't take my eyes off it. The original 390 is gone and i now have 427 center oiler, with top loader, Burgundy color. The body lines on 66 and 7s were sleek perfection!
One of my top dream cars. My parents had a 289 powered '67 when I was a kid in the 70's and early 80's, my mom daily drove my sister and me in it. Would love to have a big block one! This thing is absolutely beautiful! ❤
Fords finest hour for the mid-size. Yes, the later models had the engines and horsepower but the simplicity light weight and spot on styling of 66-67 is beautiful and timeless. Then there is THIS car(!) Best factory color inside and out, magnum 500s, perfect ride height.... bravo on the restoration, best overall '66 I've ever seen! Thank you sharing :)
i love the same things Evan, the stacked headlights, hardtop. FE power. another cool one is the 65 Comet too. my dad had a Ratty rusty 66 Fairlane in the early 70's i was in 1st grade ill never forget that car, it was a dark blue hardtop and my dad worked at a salvage yard on 8 mile in Detroit. he found a 427 side oiler in a scrap motor pile and transplanted in the ratty Fairlane in our driveway, no garage. lol he was a hardcore Ford Guy. he raced it at the old Detroit Dragway and actually won the class and a trophy a couple times, against a lot of much nicer looking race cars. lol. all these videos take me back to better days, Covid got my dad in 2021 unfortunately, but i used to show him your videos whenever you had a new one come out. thanks for doing what you and Abe do👍
The 390 is such a beautiful engine. I love them. Really peppy when you put an aluminum intake on it and work the heads. The C6AE-R heads are so good even with the little valves and good valve job. The heads with the CJ valves and headers and a 750 3310 Holley, they are bat shit crazy. An 11:1 cr was heroic. I built a lot of 396 ci FEs with the 2x4 427 solid 425hp cam with headers and 2.11 intake 1.6 exhaust with headers and the 750 3310 downleg boosters. I have one on my 65 Galaxie and the 2 inch primary and 3.5 collector. On the GT/GTA Fairlane you would not believe it. Oiling system blueprints were mandatory. So sweet!
Im from Martin Michigan, and race at the US 131 dragway. And i also ran a 66 Fairlane. Mine was a 289 that i built. Brought it at Plainwell Twin Ford .
Thanks Evan , I’m a FORD man born and raised . My Dad had a bunch of sweet cars in the late 50’s & 60’s . He had a ‘66 Fairlane in blue w/ a 289, when I was a new born (1st year) . I guess Dad & Mom would load me up in the back and cruise around to get me to fall asleep , worked like a charm Dad said . Later on when I was in my 30’s he said I guess that’s why you I love Fords so much Den, the V8 Ford purring you to sleep. Thanks to this gentleman’s super sweet ‘66. Not long after my Dad shared that w me, my uncle his younger brother told my brother and I about the only car our Dad drove with respect . Which we never heard about growing up , we heard about all the others except for his red on red ‘64 Galaxy 500xl w/ the big FE 427 medium riser dual 4 brl. Holley’s and a T10 Borg Warner 4 speed on the floor. Needless to say we where kind of shocked to hear this because of Dad’s street & drag racing history . Dad said later well I never took that one to the strip so … . I still laugh about that. Thanks again Evan . ❤all you do for us. God’s speed🙏🏻
Nice! My dad had a 66 Fairlane convertible. Only had the 6 cyl with a 3 on the tree. Car was so light in the back, it had “cans” of steel shot located behind the rear wheel wells. Sold it to a guy who said he was going to drop a 427 in it.
When I was a kid riding my bike around our small town back in the late 80’s a guy had 500 and man did I like that car. It never did move, just just got worst and worst over the years and it one day disappeared.
I bought a brand new 1967 Fairlane hi-po 390 it came with the chrome dress-up on the engine. Burnt amber paint with black vinyl top, it also had the same heads as the 428 cobra-jet, it had a Holley 735 cfm carburetor hypo C6 and 325 rear gears. It had heavy duty suspension. It also had the tac on the top of the dash from the factory, and Kelsey-Hayes disk brakes on the front All that was ordered from the factory not add ons. I raced it for 9 years and only blew the transmission once and destroyed a torque converter once at 7,000 rpm. It could run mid 13s at 105 on a good run. Never ran any major events because of being just a poor old boy trying to raise a family.
We put a Gear vendor overdrive untit behind the built c6 in our 1967 Fairlane GTA. Car now has a 428 with 600 lift cam and Eldebrock Aluminum heads and intake manifold. Still has 300 gear and no posi, so its cruiser and will spin the right rear for 1/8th mile 😂.
Awesome post, and congratulations to the man for his Fairlane. Keep covering these street cars, they are as cool as race cars, and I'd love to see some truck stuff as well.. 👌👍
My dad had a red one with white strips on the lower part of the body.390/335 hp. His had a red white and blue GTA on the lower part of the front finder
390 GT "S" intake was 74 lbs and the Police Interceptor 27 lbs.... The S intake makes the lowest HP of all iron intakes, but the best low end torque. See Jay Brown's book, "The Great FE Intake Comparo" .... The 390 GT iron exhaust manifolds were the worst factor exhausts of all.
And to think as elementary school kids in the mid 70s, my friends and I would use their dad's beat up '67 GTA(289 engine) as a launching/landing pad on our bikes. The car was parked in their back yard for a few years. It was finally put out of it's misery by the local wrecking yard in '78'-'79 or so...😒
That silver '70 Sportsroof in the photos! Not what I'd do, stripe-wise, but I wouldn't change it either. They nailed those colors down perfectly! I was kind of surprised at the softer shifts of this C6! I've always liked these '66-'67 Fairlanes a lot, and I refer to them as "Joe Friday cars." Dayton Ohio? That's where I grew up, so I might well have seen this car in person! I'll be in Florida next week, so maybe I'll see it there!
Hopefully he'll be bored with it when I can afford it - Bucket list for a '66 Fairlane GTA lover - The Car is Gorgeous ! Watched it on the Big Screen and shared it with my X steveconsultsp1 14:43 Sunday November 24, 2024V🤔
Traction Lok My 1966 Fairlane GT 390 (S-code) convertible, wide ratio 4-speed (code-5) came with a D-code 3.25:1 Locking differential. Mine was built in June 21, 1966. I was under the impression that all GT/GTA's came with 3.25 locking gears, but I have seen at least one with 3.00:1 gears (Air Conditioning). Almost all I have seen were open diff 3.25:1
Great story Evan! At 81 years old, Tim could pass for about 59, amazing and inspiring man! Regarding the 390 FE engine, I read that it's actually a stroked 352, can you verify this?
This reminds me of that program Over hauling when Chip Foose ruined a GTA with the rubber band tires and the block painted red the owner must of lost his mind after that.

Fan of your program as well. I could never find a k code 66 Fairlane did they even exist?

I just installed the lift off fiberglass hood, last weekend.

Hard core Ford man too.
This Fairlane is sweet!
Thanks Evan for bringing this to us.

That's a sweet looking rig; I can't believe he's 81, he's sharp as a tack !!
Probably one of the nicest ones around. And he knows it, inside and out. Very well done!

What a beautiful machine/ time capsule!! And that old boy seems like a real one
Killer story ! That car has been my unicorn since I was a 16 year old! Soon I will get one I promise! And btw that guy is a legend Evan!

Wow beautiful Fairlane! Love that body style! Always been one of my favorites!!!!
Beautiful Fairlane!👍. Thank you for showing us.
I had two Fairlanes a 66 GT 390 4 speed and a 67 500 with a 390 4 speed love the cars I wish I had them back I love your car

I just watched a video where they dyno tested a 390 and then made 20hp with a new oil pan that had a windage scraper and a trap door.
Im from Martin Michigan, and race at the US 131 dragway. And i also ran a 66 Fairlane. Mine was a 289 that i built. Brought it at Plainwell Twin Ford .

These are good videos. Enjoy the details
Hey Evan tell this dude to put a gear vendors overdrive unit in this beautiful Fairlane 😊
Just starting restore a 67 GT! Great video
Awesome Fairlane!
Love that Fairlane!!!!!
A friend of my brother had one on the these in the early 70s. His was a 390 4 speed with a cam and other performance upgrades. Very strong runner.
Very cool! Great 390 FE info also!
When I was a kid riding my bike around our small town back in the late 80’s a guy had 500 and man did I like that car. It never did move, just just got worst and worst over the years and it one day disappeared.
Hi I'm a Mopar guy but I love these Fairlane Hardtops. I definitely want one.
I bought a brand new 1967 Fairlane hi-po 390 it came with the chrome dress-up on the engine. thanks for sharing... I had an 67 390 GTA mustang that I sadly had to part with. this car reminds me of it
The 3.89 gears in my fairlane, run at 3300rpm at 62mph. Fast car.
What a beautiful car and very interesting gentleman.
My first car was a 1967 Fairlane GTA, the engine was replaced with a 428 SCJ. Hard as hell in the 80s to find parts for.
This Ford and the Mercury's of the same years are the best looking to me.
Beautiful car!
Beautiful Fairlane I’ve had mine since 1974 66 xl 289 car , love the body style
Beautuful 66! I'd love to have one sitting next to my 68 2 door hardtop😊
Clean car! Love that color too! Dude launching it was awesome, too!
What an absolute sexy machine!
Sold at the stacked headlights!
The paint and body are beautiful!
Gorgeous! WOW! Love it!
'66 Fairlane great copy of a '65 GTO. '66 GTA vs GTO and Chevelle:

My former roommate, Gene Gatlin had the same year, model, engine, even the same color. Was just as much fun to experience.
Manual brakes wow! Love the color. Owner & car has aged very well.
I believe that is Emerbglo.
Awesome post, and congratulations to the man for his Fairlane. Keep covering these street cars, they are as cool as race cars, and I'd love to see some truck stuff as well.. 👌👍
Thank you
My dad had a red one with white strips on the lower part of the body.390/335 hp. His had a red white and blue GTA on the lower part of the front finder
Beautiful car one of my favorite fords always, thanks for the vid.😊
As sharp as it gets!
Thank for watching and for the information.
Thats a beauty, enjoy your cruise sir.
My red 66 Fairlane GT 4 spd, has been sitting in the corner of my shop for over 20 years. Maybe I should do something with it.
I’m restoring my 66 Fairlane GTA convertible this spring. Hopefully it comes out as nicely as this one ❗️💓
The 390 was an excellent street engine. Somewhat conservative on power, but a great, torquey motor
Awesome car!
Love the classics.
We had a '66. Love that body style. I thought sure he would have answered Thunderbolt as dream car.
The 427 and 428CJ get all the glory, but ore people can relate to the 390, so if i were you i would do more 390 videos. Good job
And to think as elementary school kids in the mid 70s, my friends and I would use their dad's beat up '67 GTA(289 engine) as a launching/landing pad on our bikes. Beautiful!!
Nice car. Always liked the 66 Fords.
Very Nice !!!!
Great video Evan!
this owner has that gta tuned to perfection
That silver '70 Sportsroof in the photos! Not what I'd do, stripe-wise, but I wouldn't change it either. They nailed those colors down perfectly!

Beautiful car and fantastic video! Just subscribed. Thanks for posting.
My personal opinion is that the 66-67 Fairlane are the most handsome car Ford ever built.
My favorite year is 66 and 67, my wife’s cousin had a 66 four-speed 289 back in the 80s and it would eat them mustangs for dinner
My brother Mike tried to mate a 66 Fairlane with his 54 Customline. Didn't work out well. Did mate a 53 front clip to the 54 and that was fine.
I had a 67 of the same model. My car had a 4 speed. Wish I'd held on to that car. 😢 This was back in 1970.
‘66-‘67 Fairlanes are my all time favorite midsize cars. IDC what’s under the hood (FE Please!) I’ll take it over my Mustang any day.
Hopefully he'll be bored with it when I can afford it - Bucket list for a '66 Fairlane GTA lover - The Car is Gorgeous ! Watched it on the Big Screen and shared it with my X steveconsultsp1 14:43 Sunday November 24, 2024V🤔
That's one nice fairlane
Traction Lok

How is the Wood Brothers clone coming that your friend Abe is building? I haven't seen it for some time. The one with the 7.3 CI Godzilla?
Slow, the hurricanes set us back a bit. We'll make progress soon and post some videos.
This reminds me of that program Over hauling when Chip Foose ruined a GTA with the rubber band tires and the block painted red the owner must of lost his mind after that.
Putting out to the Universe!! I “will have another one!! 66/67 doesn’t matter to me. First one was 67 289, 500!!
My dad bought 1967 fairlane with 390 when he got back from Vietnam then he lost it in 1969 Ohio flood
Cool looks somewhat like my truck,it must be the atmosphereic huge back seat in mine!!🤔
That is probably the only color fairlane I did not have
My old 69' Road Runner 383 I believe was rated at 425ft lbs Tq SAE. My current car a 17 Super Sport Camaro 6spd is rated at 455ft lbs Tq Net.
My favorite muscle car looks fast just sitten there
Agreed!
nice
great not to hear what he has to say .. great job
