I am native slovak, and every year me and my dad and some other members of family we group in ours home and we come together on šibačka to all of our family members and friends. From my experience all the girls love this tradition except one but we respect that. And at the end of day we are all happy because it fun. :)

As a native slovak it is not fun to get water on you and get whipped and even have to give them gifts for it. Another “gift” that man often get after the water and whipping is alcohol. So then you even have to be around a bunch of drunk man for the rest of the day. I liven with 3 men in my family : dad and 2 older brothers so it was even harder for me I guess and also had a lot of male cousins so you can imagine how much I liked this tradition growing up. It is very characteristic to Slovakia I have to say. In Czech Republic girls get the whipping part but no water.

I can imagine how unfun it can be for a woman in that situation living with 3 men in the family and the expectations they have for you given the tradition. But who would they whip if not for you? hehe just kidding. Thank you for sharing your experience! Slovak Easter can be hardcore haha

Well deffinitely, the girl who got more time wet, was more popular. Also I need to say, they let me go around with my cousins till my 14nth anniversary, and I had the privillage to "beat" my oncles and my grandpa etc 😂 ( the man from my familly), bcs they did noy know how to argument to me when I asked them, why it can be only mu cousins 😅

Sounds like you were given quite the opportunity for such a tradition! It sounds like fun but maybe not everyone likes it hehehe

I am native Slovak but I live in England as my husband is British and I always hated the tradition of men splashing girls with water and girls giving the men gifts like they would do them a favour, silly idea 😀 but in England I am safe, nobody knows it 🤣
