Al, good to "sea" you again. So glad you're still turning beautiful things. Hope all is well with you, your wife and the boat. Looking forward to more of your great videos. God Bless!
Hey al! You might consider a cbn wheel for sharpening to keep down on dust. That friable wheel is gonna fill that room fast. Awesome to see the idos shop realized.👍
First of all thank you for watching and commenting. That is one upgrade I would consider but I don't think I could fit an 8" grinder in the same footprint. Mine is 6" and seeing how much turning I will be doing mine is going to have to make it. I could make a box that would help control the dust quite a bit. Man I need to figure out how to get a sheet of plywood to this darn boat LOL
@@AlFurtado woodturners wonders has a 6" cbn wheel. And idk bout the plywood. If I come up with something I'll let you know. I do have friends with condo around Miami. Lol
Albert my friend, that dust could well be the end toy your turnings on that beautiful boat. Take a shallow dish of water and place it under your piece on the lathe, set the speed to very low and wet sand your work. Not only will there be ZERO sanding dust, you will in most cases get a better finish. Not only that! Your wet n dry sandpaper will cut much faster and will last three times longer at least. Why not give it a try, I'd hate to see that dust beat you. I'm sure your lovely wife Fatima will adore you a little more too!
@@AlFurtado I'm new to turning and like the use of resins to get the most out of badly cracked wood that would otherwise end up on the wood burning stove. I found that wet sanding gives the best results on the resin, as a bonus I also find it works pretty good on the wood too. It lifts the grain and when it dries down there's no muck clogging up the pores of the wood. Hit it with some shine juice as you guys call it and I think you get a much cleaner finish. As already mentioned the dust it stops is a real bonus.
Keep it up young man, I'm glad to see the workshop is working out, didn't think anyone could have pulled that one off. I have started modifying my own tool's after contacting you before and they are working out well. It's all about taking the risk and trying something new. Regards from Ireland
First I hope you and Fatamer are well and enjoying life at sea. I hope I spelled her name right. I loved you turning it looks really nice. The point you made about buying expensive tools is so right I use wot I have or I make my own it’s so true you don’t need lots of expensive stuff. Take care my friend till next time 👍👍👍😊😊😊♥️
Thank you. Fatima an I are doing great. What I said is just how I feel about things. I have no problem if someone has tons of gadgets I just hate that they don't focus on what if you don't have it options.
Nice little vase you've got there, Al. Not too big, no extravagant shape, but the simple shape and the warm brown colour with the paler splashes on the front and back do give it some elegance. Thanks for sharing!
Yeah I need a steady rest and a hollowing arm huh? All the things we need and the lack of annergy to make them LOL. Actually considering making that as 1 of the upcoming videos .... Thank you very much. Take care be safe.
@@AlFurtado why is it you can have many tools but, always be short of tools lol. The man's struggle in life tools and room for them lol. God Bless both of you.
I like it Al even though you say its not your best and even for minimal finishing it looks very nice. Take care mate and say Hi to the Captain for me😁. Cheers, Bram
I said hello to the captain and got a confused look. LOL Thank you my friend. I really appreciate the kindness and offerings that comes from you......... Take care and be safe......
Thanks for sharing. I just got a couple of macadamia nut wood for turning into a fishing rod handle. The wood has a remarkable grain, and looks very solid.
Nice project. I like the wood a lot. There at the end I see the highest problem you’re going to have, dust on the lens of the camera. Well done Al. Sorry we didn’t see you in the group for World Wide Woodturners on Wednesday night. We would love for you to be a regular.
Yeah dust is definatly an issue. I need to get my dust extracter going this week before I do anymore turning. I keep forgeting day and time on the World wide Woodturners. I know things are a bit on the dark side at night and at my nav station where I have my computer. I will try to join you guys on the next meeting and it's my honor. Thank you
Hi Al,,, I don't know what happened because I have notifications turned on for this channel but I didn't get any notification? It's so good to see you happy and smiling again at the lathe!
hmm No idea why that is happening but than again I am not geting notification on emailabout any uploads from friends I do see them on the bell next to my google account icon. have you tried unchecking the bell if it's on and clicking it again? It should have the sguigly lines by it if active.
The mix is equal parts Shelaac, Boiled Linseed oil and Denatured alcohol. shake well before each use. I just mark a bottle devided in 3rds and fill to each line with each mix.
Um you need to cleans the camera lens once in a while it got dusty there at the end lol, and you do need a steady rest, make it a video, and stop showing off you have always been able to find the centers for as long as i have known you, and it always gets to me when I try it and miss every time 🤣...
I thought you had the lazer placed in your eye at the same time I had mine done? Maybe you just need to put some new batteries? Thanks for watching and yeah I needed to get dusted off as well LOL
