I was Intoduced to Alastair Reynolds through the show Love, Death, & Robots. The episode "Beyond the Aquila Rift" is my favorite episode and was so creative.
I love when books have art that comes with the books. The hard cover Dark Tower books came with terrific artwork that gave you a basis for how some of the scenes would look. Mid World was well described, but having some visuals made the read better!
Something I think you'd appreciate - there had been prior plans to do an adaptation of Neuromancer, with none other than Tsutomu Nihei doing art and visual design. Some of the drawings are still out there!
Are you really sure you are trusting modern hollywood with any of that ? O boi i know i would be extremely disappointed, things would have to shake up quite a bit before i would trust the movie machine to tackle any of theses.
I know and I am totally with you. Every time I hear of Hollywood making a book into a movie I always cringe now. I wasn't always that way. But now there just are so few really good or decent movies that I can't help but think "how is Hollywood going to ruin this one?"
The Heaven Tree trilogy by Edith Pargeter is my favourite book, and would make a great television series. I was really excited when I read that rights to adapt Guy Gavriel Kay’s Fionavar Tapestry series had been purchased, but that was years ago.
stormlight archive needs to be a big budget tv series ASAP! the way brandon sanderson writes is perfect for an adaptation, and nothing better than his stormlight series! give some inspired, seasoned writers and directors alot of money and as much freedom to make as many episodes per season as they want to adapt the books, and with brandon sandersons input and guidance its guaranteed to be a hit and make any platform that gets it its money back! its written perfectly to be adapted, you can basically see all the choreography as you read it. i want it so much! dont ask me to do casting tho, i got no clue
Oh, have not seen anyone talking about Farmer in UA-cam book sphere, thank you. I really loved his books as a teenager (even though they clearly were not age appropriate then, my poor parents didn't check those phantasy books I was reading 😅)
For me, I would love to see a good adaptation of The Wind on Fire trilogy by William Nicholson. I feel it would probably work best as an animated/anime stylised show, especially with most of the main cast being young teens, which can be hit or miss in live action. Although I think I read that the author specifically did not want to see this series adapted (Nicholson is also a screenwriter in Hollywood, with Gladiator probably being his best known film) so I doubt an adaptation would ever happen, but if it was well-executed and respectful of the source material I would absolutely want to see it, and hopefully see readers discover these books.
I'm not to the end yet, but I think Great North Road by Peter F Hamilton would make a good single season series. I think it wouldn't have to have a massive budget, and it has enough little reveals along the way that it could work really well as episodes. That is if the ending isn't a let down.
I would choose “Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream” by Harlan Ellison and “I Am the Doorway” by Stephen King. For Dark Tower, I’d love to see a movie of just the Gunslinger done as a fantasy western, not an action movie. I look forward to what Mike Flanagan does with it!
*"Between two Fires"* by Christopher Buehlman is written in an already very cinematic way, so I really wonder why there happened anything with the material yet. I've just learned that another book by Buehlman (Those Across the River) was planned for a TV show quite a while ago but apparently went nowhere. Also I really would like to see an adaptation of Clive Barker's *"Imajica"*, but this would be a really hard one and might be even unadaptable even with heaps of VFX, since it has a less adaptable structure and unconventional ending. Also very recently I read *"A Short Stay in Hell"* by. Steven L. Peck - now this would make for a great adaptation, since to me it already read like some really nasty Black Mirror Episode with a real gutpunch of an ending like the Adaptations of Steven King's "The Fog". Apparently because of the existential dread of the story despite it's almost mild satirical beginning this book now lives rent free in many peoples head. A book very similar to the one before is *"The Divine Farce"* by Michael S. A. Graziano, but I guess, despite that it's very short, this one is really unadaptable simply because every single person is naked in the story.
Between two fires is truly one of the most enjoyable novels I’ve ever read, and is very cinematic you are right. That would make for a fantastic adaptation and I have been wanting one ever since I first read the book
NONE!! I’m tired of these shitty adaptations. Everywhere I look I’m seeing poorly done adaptations where they try and force their own narratives for whatever reason and it NEVER ends up working. Some changes I understand are a must but there seems to be a lot of changes just for the sake of it. let’s just leave books as books and not put a stain on these wonderful pieces of writing. For the last 5 years there has been nothing but disappointing adaptations. It’s like they have no real love for the source material, they just know there’s hype surrounding a certain book and use that as bait to lure in an audience so they make more money. They don’t care about the source material or about the quality of the film. Todays film-makers only care about money
If the Dark Tower goes forward, it really will benefit from being a series of 7 seasons, one for each book. Anything less would be detrimental to the series.
Well Neuromancer is on Villeneuves to do list. As far as I know he is going to do Rendevous with Rama first, then Dune Messiah and then Neuromancer. But don't quote me on this as Villeneuve is always hiding what he is really doing. Oh and while on the topic. Sand by Hugh Howey would be a great adaptation too, while I read the book I felt like I was watching a movie.
Great content! Iwould love to see Destiny's Crucible series by Olan thorenson or The Rekoners by Brandon Sanderson adapted. I think The Reckoners would be a great anime
Carrion Comfort by Dan Simmons would make an excellent horror movie or mini series as did The Terror. Another vampire series should be Brian Lumley’s Necroscope saga. Just don’t allow the people who made The Passage tv series be connected.
Adaptations no matter how good or bad they are if they gain somewhat of a following during the release will result in a sort of advertisement for the books, I feel the effects of that the most since there are many great books which I can't access cuz they aren't popular enough for publishers and distributers in my country to make them available, so I wish such books gain more coverage through adaptations.
I don’t understand the love for Mike Flanagan. I love the book The Haunting of Hill House and I was excited for the show until I realized it was barely based on the book. It was more like fan fiction. I started The Turn of the Screw and realized that is what he does. That being said, if The Haunting of Hill House series was not called that, I would have liked it.
Blood Crazy by Simon Clark would make an insane horror movie...... on the lighter side Kill Two Birds and Get Stoned by Kinky Friedman would also make a good movie
At this point I wouldn't wish an adaptation on books I don't like.. let alone one I do. It's bad enough they butcher the source material, what is worse those abominations take over media and from that point on they "are" the story. Try to find out anything actually accurate about Dune written in the past two years.
I love House of Suns and the fact that Alastair Reynolds is an Astrophysicist really bleeds into his writing extremely well. That being said you brought up like 3 terrible adaptations (Apple should be sued for what they did to Foundation) right before his and I would hate for one of those garbage companies to get their hands on House of Suns. I think I would add Snow Crash to this list. Personally I want to see Malazan Book of the Fallen on the mini screen. It might be too far out there or expensive but it would be amazing. Maybe as an anime.
The Book of Skulls could easily be a movie. Oliver and Ned's characters could be made women, and maybe adapt some of the conflict to make it more... contemporary.

Great list!
I would love adaptations for "Neuromancer" and "The Windup Girl."
All these books sound so great, I may not be able to wait for the movies! Love the sound of Wind-up Girl and Metro 2033 particularly. Great video! 😊

“The Dark Tower” could be adapted really well into a streaming series so that it can take its time
I agree with Rammell about Jake. If it wasn't for Jake it could be adapted
@ Jake who?

Yes to more Mike Flanagan + Stephen King adaptations ❤!

Dandelion Dynasty made in the exact same style and by the exact same people as those who made Blue Eye Samurai would be heavenly.

They care about money and agendas and pushing those ideas on all of us whether we want it or not.
As for Ubic, I haven't read it but they have a movie that has the timeline flowing forward and backwards at the same time.
If the Dark Tower goes forward, it really will benefit from being a series of 7 seasons, one for each book. Anything less would be detrimental to the series.
I would love to see an adaptation of 14 by Peter Cline.

I know adaptations of it exist, but I genuinely think HBO or Hulu could make a terrific Don Quixote series.
Just want to say, I really like your T-shirt! Is that The Iron Giant? Alright, I'm going to watch the rest of your video now. 💪
@johnm.slaugter8547 No, actually, it's a vintage cover of the book i robot. But it does look like the iron giant.
I’ve always thought that the perfect book to be adapted is Hyperion. I’m still waiting 😢

The Moon is a Harsh Mistress is an easy read and would capitalize on the interest in AI.
Blood Crazy by Simon Clark would make an insane horror movie...... on the lighter side Kill Two Birds and Get Stoned by Kinky Friedman would also make a good movie
Cool "I Robot," t-shirt.
The Mote in God's Eye, 'nuff said
❤ for loving Midnight mass as much as I.
Devil in the white city would be better as a mini series.
Agree with many of these.

I have to agree. I hope that in the future this will change. But now, no I don't see it happening any time too soon.
America Falls by Scott Medbury. Excellent. The only issue I see is China are the protagonists and Hollywood won’t allow that
I gotta check out metro 23-I had no idea it was a book😂
If you like that one, check out Roadside Picnic.
@@archiemisc Roger that
A TV series or film of Legend by David Gemmell.
There was a riverworld adaptation like 20 years ago, it was a low budget scifi channel movie, and not great
