as a sailor, you can also do the simpliest and efficient way to tie a log like killick hitch or a clove hitch. that way when the log is cut, the rope is not going to slack midair while falling down.

This reminds me of a time I was camping all alone in the mountains in upstate New York, and had left a pot with leftover fish and lentils about 80' from my tent.....Black bear circled my tent in the middle of the night, brushing up against it....I could hear him/her breathing.....I thought I was a gonner... I have done difficult jobs and at the most diffcult time of the job. maybe disengaging the gearbox from the engine and someone standing doing nothing asking dumb questions like "did you get all the nuts off without breaking any?", I want to scream shut the fuck up. But you can't because that will distract and take energy away from what you're doing and cause you to fuck up.
I learned knot tying in Army basic training. The bowline is my go-to knot for securing a rope or tying onto equipment. The beauty of it is that it’s easy to untie after putting a tremendous load on the rope.

Some of us climbers are trying to pretend we are not 60' up in the air and therefore there is no view to enjoy, lol! Been up some trees that had incredible views but damn if i could appreciate it at the time!!

Easy and quick knots. As a combat engineer and having been on a search and rescue team, there wasn't anything complicated being done here. Practicle, easy, efficient. It just takes a little practice. BUT to the kidnapper I have to ask, how often did you take kid naps and for how long? Or did you mean that you were good at getting your kids to take naps?
As someone who has climbed and Ben the ground guy I give you major props because I've never been that high without a bucket. A friend of mine who we just recently lost to the fentanyl crisis was the one that used to do those climbs. Sad part is he had never messed with the stuff in his life but his girlfriend get it and he tried it one time. He was one of the most skilled climbers I've ever known. I've seen him perform this trick at that altitude and ride that crazy ride that comes afterwards!

Right. I took down a many of trees and had some great hands and some not so great. Been beat up by a few who claimed to be good.

I worked construction for 40 years. Bowline is the go to knot for electricians, roofers, carpenters and anyone hoisting with rope.
I did this type of work for 23yrs and that is technically what's called a "running bowline" since it's tied back to itself.
Use a bowline to rope jack a 40 inch dbh tree against its lean and lmk if its still easy to untie lmao
