Michael, thanks for all your hard work you put in to create content for those of us trying to learn these skills, and improve. When you said a couple weeks ago (being sick at the time) that you hadn't missed a weekend video post in what, like 3 years, I was impressed and humbled, because I struggle and whine just to sit down in front of my easel. Your efforts are inspiring and much appreciated. Thanks again!
Thank you so much for taking a step back occasionally and letting us see the whole painting that you’re working on and a little bit of the background. I like to pause the video and try to think what I would do next. And then I’m impressed that what you do comes out a lot better than whatever I would’ve done ❤
As always your process is so informative to watch. It is clear you put so much effort into your craft as an artist and a documentor of your work. I am thinking of your community right now. As a lifelong resident of Western North Carolina, having just experienced our own catastrophic climate related disaster, my heart is heavy watching the current west coast disaster unfold. Prayers go out to you all.
Thank you for your continuous encouragement to get out there and paint. The weather often keeps people here (in New Mexico) from painting outside. I love painting outside almost no matter what. I think wind interferes the most! No problem with rain as we don’t often have any!😊
Hi, I really enjoyed watching your progression as you painted and your commentary that was included. I also enjoy painting over top another piece. I appreciated your openess of how you were feeling too! Most of my paintings are done inside but love the feeling and challenge of being in the outdoors looking and experiencing it as I paint. Keep up the good work! Its beautiful❤ L
Love are you took such liberties with the scene in front of you. I kept going back to be beginning to see the landscape scene and then to the end to see the painting. Fabulous interpretation!
The painting looks great. I like how simple but strong the design is, and the clouds are epic. Thanks for another instructive demo, I appreciate your work as all your videos are an inspiration.
Nailed it! I agree the orangey hills and lavender sky/clouds work really well together. The small dark stripe of shadow on the upper left cloud really looks nice with the big dark tree to the right. Everything is very balanced.
I listened to the video with the automatic dubbing and it seemed like a history channel or national geographic documentary but the painting still looks good 🖼️🌊
Lovely painting Michael. I applaud how you can focus on composition and alter as needed. Plus, your color mixing, and color adjustments are very helpful. Keeping colors clean not muddy is your special talent.
I loved this one. I haven’t oil painted in about 5 months. Our house was on the market and with just cleaning and the stress of it all I put oil painting aside for other smaller, less messy projects. Watching this video today really reminded me of how much I love getting outside to paint. It’s giving me that nudge to paint both in my studio and outside, regardless of things being in a bit of a limbo right now. In fact, that’s all the more reason to do it! And the lovely ocean scene just ended the video so peacefully and really gave me a moment to ponder this. Thanks and Happy New year!
An excellent video today. I love your composition, turned out really well and your colors and approach are beautiful.. Something you said about playing with your medium range true for me .. when I go out to paint I always feel like it has to be a winner.❤ happy new year🎉🎉
Thank you. I really like this one and your process. Worked in my studio today and started a new 10 x 10 that I'm happy with so far. Too cold for me to do plein air (I'm in Nova Scotia it is bitter today) but wowza there is nothing like a good painting session to make me high. My fella buillt me a shed to paint in. Some of my friends say ooh a she shed. No! Much more like Kit Carson's hideout. Has a Labrador tent stove so takes awhile to warm up but it is all mine. Huzzah, Keep on keepin on.
It's really cool to see the scene from time to time while you're painting in this video. It's so interesting to see how you interpret the shapes and the light in the landscape as the scene changes throughout the video. Great job as always!
near the bottom just slightly left of the middle you have 4 or 5 small brush marks and that creates a big and small contrast as well as light and darker green contrast. Looks really nice
Hello, for your first layers, do you use gamsol or juste the solvent free medium in general? And do you add more linseed oil for the next layers? Even in alla prima
New Zealand here we are in middle of our summer and we have had so many cold days and wind its weird it like winter here not summer .hard to go out and paint or anything
@chamberlainpaintings Good to hear from you, thanks for your response! I had a feeling you would appreciate his stuff too, haha! 😊Cool deal.As far as Woody Guthrie goes I can actually say the same thing lol; but I just recently started looking into some of his material and find myself liking it
Another excellent piece. Where is this? How you can paint over a panel that's already used gets me curious. I always gesso a panel that's been previously used. Do you go for the challenge? Like the idea of mysterious paint under the surface of the new work? Or just maybe can't be bothered with covering the old work because you can block out the old painting so effectively?

Great job catching the light.

A great composition, and lovely colors. I’ve got a lot of old paintings I’m eager to repaint now

Masterful. You rode that wave beautifully.
I don't know exactly where you are, but I hope and pray you and family are safe!!!🙏🙏🙏🙏

I really like how the clouds played out and the light is very convincing across the path. Guess I like the out of control approach 😁
That was a very cool painting.Well worth the walk.thank you

You captured the coast and made a good scene a beautiful scene. You really brought out the beauty of it.
I really love this one, Michael! I learn so much from you.
Good afternoon Michael. Love this scene you’ve chosen, beautiful lighting, color, and composition 👍🏽
Thanks Miriam!
As always, I just love your colors!❤
5 stars!
I really appreciated the commentary on what mix of colors and why you used them.. keep up the awesome work!!
😎
Just love your painting out of control - beautiful work!
One of my favorites, Michael-excellent painting and video. Again, thank you for ending on a few moments of the scene-our moment of zen. 👍🙂
I loved the colors you got in this one. Especially the yellowish grass. Really Nice composition. Excellent sunset at the end!

Funny that I had you on as background voice to my "projects" here, and STILL learned tons!!
Love that 🙂

Michael, this is a wonderful view for a composition
Good morning Mark. Thanks!
Serene and peaceful at the end ❤

An excellent video today.
I love your composition, turned out really well and your colors and approach are beautiful..
Something you said about playing with your medium
range true for me ..
when I go out to paint I always feel like it has to be a winner.❤ happy new year🎉🎉
Thank you for pointing out the interesting pattern in the sky on the panel during the block in. I was wondering about it too.

Nice! Lots to paint in your part of the world. I'd love to paint in Nova Scotia someday.

Beautiful colors, beautiful composition!
You've really caught it. Lovely colours
One of your best ones! Thanks!
One of my favorites. Gorgeous colors! Thanks Michael.

Thank you Michael, as always inspiring and encouraging. Hope you’re not near any of the fires🤞🏻
Those orangish hills contrasted beautifully with the lavender tints in the sky
Stay safe Michael, thoughts are with you and your family from Western Australia
Another magnificent video
Excelent! Thanks for these paintings! HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Like your spontaneity. Appreciate you sharing.
Good morning Michael !
Wonderful ❤
Very nice!

Yes... thanks :)
Very nice
Curious what brand of brushes and oil paints you suggest?
New Zealand here we are in middle of our summer and we have had so many cold days and wind its weird it like winter here not summer .hard to go out and paint or anything
We have a similar spring and summer here in Northern California. Especially along the coast. Cold!
that wsa a beauitful scene to paint.
Hope you're OK and keep painting
Would you ever consider a plein air painting retreat???
Possibly in the future! Things are a bit busy at the moment.
I’m learning a lot from you Michael. I would buy this one if you are selling it.
Email me at chamberlainpaintings@gmail.com to discuss 🙂

I know you sanded down the old painting. Is there a reason you don’t just throw a quick white wash over it?
I'd have to use an oil based gesso which is complicated and time consuming. That's the short answer!
Hey there, how's it goin Michael? Wanted to ask you if you're a Bob Dylan fan 😄
Hi Hailey. I do like Bob Dylan. I wasn't a fan when I was younger. I've grown to appreciate his songwriting, and his singing.

Woody Guthrie? ☺️
I don't know much Woody Guthrie actually.
