i think everybody would have a different reaction to it depending on their personality type and priorities. brian is excited to make a difference and i think that’s cool.

Eddie himself refers to his pre-NZT self in past tense like a dead person he's left behind, and questions why Brian still holds onto his old life and self. The reason itself is in the show, however: Brian, for all his shortcomings, was a good person and sincere about his faults. Eddie was filled with self-loathing.
