I’m going to walk through my design process of creating curved walls by designing a pencil holder and laser cutting it using kerf cuts.
We’ll start by designing the mesh in Fusion 360 and then move to Lightburn to layout the flat sections and create the kerf pattern on the curved body, then cut out the parts and assemble it.
By the end you should understand the concepts to design your own products.

How's your experience with diode lasers? I was debating about buying another k40 because that was the only real option for cutting 1/4" wood a few years ago and I miss having that ability

I have a 40w diode and it cuts 1/4” just fine.
Originally have a 10w and it want really practical to cut that thick. 20w is doable but 40w is butter :)
Downside of diode is you can’t cut/etch clear materials. You can etch glass but need to paint the surface with something to the laser to interacts with.
