  • MrMaple isn’t just another nursery, it’s a Japanese maple mecca with over 1,000 cultivars. Owners Matt & Tim Nichols have taken their love of this species to a new level. They have become recognized as industry experts and package and ship hundreds of Japanese maples nationwide each week. The Nichols brothers can personally attest to the seasonal color shifts, growth patterns and history behind each and every one.

    I ordered 4 Japanese maples from Matt and Tim. I am so happy with the way my business was appreciated. I have never been treated as nice as Matt and Tim treated me when I called to ask questions about planting the trees. The maples were so well packed when I got them; none of them were damaged. A lot of time and knowledge was put into sending these trees packaged as they were. I am really happy with Matt and Tim and their knowledge of their trees; as well as their sincere kindness in treating their clients.

    Have ALWAYS loved Japanese Maples, but now with what is called a postage stamp yard, I'm limited. Only have a butterfly maple so far, from you guys, but looking into getting as many in there as I can? Having a brick laid sidewalk, I was going to plant some as street trees, but as luck would have it, when doing the spacing, there is a water or sewer line with in feet of where they should go. : (

    Japanese maples are Worshipped in some temples? That's worshipping the creation... instead of the Creator... today is the day of salvation, repent and be saved

    Six years ago I started the design, development and planting of the "Jake Mayes Japanese Memorial Garden" to honor the memory of our beloved grandson, Jacob Paul Mayes. I started with planting about three Japanese Maples and currently the "Jake Mayes Japanese Memorial Garden" has 140 Japanese maple with 108 different varieties, 20 flowering trees, 30 palms, 50 conifers, 200+ azaleas, 250+ Iris, 50 + Bonsai and numerous trees and plants. I rely on experts like Matt & Tim Nichols, Christy and Mike Francis, and Lucile Whitman for a selection of outstanding high quality Japanese Maples and conifers. I recommend that anyone considering a Japanese Maple for their garden, buy only from quality growers, who are experts in their field!

    Not just because I’m interested in Japanese maples (Monty Don inspired me and made me appreciate my 15-year old beauty even more) or that I’ve actually purchased two small trees from these fine gentleman, but this is the best coverage of anything I’ve ever seen - really, you took the time to cover the topic, the folks behind it, then captured the passion that has inspired it all - from the very beginning to today. These are sobering times, frightening really, but I got lost in this production and learned so much. I hope both parties are proud of your work - you could have done no better!

    What do you have for zone 9? Would be excited to have a Japanese Maple in my garden here in Florida.

    • @MrMapleShow
      @MrMapleShow 6 років тому +2

      Hey Nancy, thanks for watching our episode! For full sun in zone 9 in Florida, I would recommend an Acer olivearianum ssp formosanum , but if you give protection from the hot afternoon sun a weeping red Japanese maple that will do well is 'Tamukeyama', while an 'Emperor 1' or 'Moonfire' will give you an upright red selection. A tree like 'Tsukasa Silhouette' or 'Seiryu' are also some other upright forms that are extremely heat tolerant, while a few dwarf forms are 'Ryusen' and 'Mikawa yatsubusa'. Any of these should perform well for you in your gardening zone. Make sure to let your gardening friends know about us down there in Florida !
