My first SuperTuxKart speedrun, and the first speedrun of 1.0! I did two speedruns before this, but they had some significant mistakes. The biggest mistake I made here was getting destroyed by the AI in Old Mine. I had to restart and it cost up to 30 seconds. I also had some issues with the logistics (e.g. Off the Beaten Track, navigating the overworld quickly). So sub-50 is definitely doable. Below are a few notes I have for speedrunning 1.0. If any speedrunners want to comment below and add to this you are welcome to. :)
SuperTux mode should be unlocked as quickly as possible, as the races are faster. So you should play the five shortest courses first, as I did. I played Ravenbridge Mansion, but Antediluvian Abyss is about the same length, so you can play either of the two (but you might want to get Ravenbridge Mansion out of the way).
I'm not sure about this, but I think heavyweights are typically better. I used a middleweight for Around the Lighthouse so I could get ahead of the AI more easily. I used a lightweight for Minigolf. If you find it difficult to break away early on certain courses with a heavyweight, consider using a middleweight.
There is a glitch in GPs where you will not get points if you skip ahead too fast. So don't skip ahead until you see the point tally in the results screen.
In fact, you can do "quadruple" skips in the GPs because of this glitch. Play the first race normally and get 1st. Do not skip the points screen. Then give up on the other four races. If you skip the points screen on each of those races, the game will think you were in first the whole time and you'll get the trophy. This saves a good 20 minutes, so it is CRUCIAL to do. It also makes the speedrun easier because you don't have to worry about messing around with the AI to do double skips.
Some minor things:
It seems that after I play the first GP, exiting the challenges too fast will restart them. To avoid this, press your "go back" button right after completing the challenge. The button to get the trophy should appear. Now you can go ahead and continue.
If you miss a boost start but you were certain your timing was good, it may be because you pressed the accelerate button before the countdown. You won't get the penalty warning, but you will be unable to get the boost start.
And this run would not exist if it weren't for people who've done speedruns of this game in the past, so thank you speedrunners!

This is so different from what I remember of STK back in the 0.7 and 0.6 days! There seems to be so much more depth to the game now - really interesting.

Who needs Mario Kart, am I right?
Mario is a franchise with widely known characters, but STK is a living game with community content and it improves with time.

The game seems very highly perfomant... There seems to be very little loading screens. I guess it uses very efficient software libraries and no proprietary bloat..
Or like, you know... Low-resolution textures, low-polygon models... Meaning low computational power requirements so it loads really fast...

Well, good find with the quadruple skip... This basically breaks the GPs.
And I can't even get that bug fixed for 1.1 as it would break compatibility.
Hmm...would it make sense to remove the glitch only in Story Mode or would that still break compatibility?

Incredible, congratulations, I thought the story mode of the 1.0 could be much longer. I didn't look at the whole run but from what I saw I don't see how it could be beaten. Alayan and Fouks no longer playing (it seems to me), there is only Theodore Pringle left: -) it seems to me. I didn't think we could switch to expert mode in 5 races but apparently: -). However, compared to the "speedrun" races of the 0.9.3 I find that you change a lot of karts, is there really a time saving? And isn't a medium (although I suppose you've thought about it) faster with the racing circumstances (parachutes, balls etc...) in addition to the track transitions?

I think the story mode could be a little longer, with additional types of challenges as well, like egg hunts, battles, etc. The run is definitely beatable (especially because of Old Mine, 42:50) Alayan is just busy/taking a break as far as I know. Fouks had some issues with 1.0 but he said he wasn't leaving permanently. And Theodore is definitely likely to beat it. But I do wish there were more speedrunners (It seems 0.9.3 was more competitive).
Alayan actually added the feature where you can unlock SuperTux mode early if you fulfilled the SuperTux requirements on Expert mode for 5 tracks. It's lucky that one of the main developers is also a speedrunner lol.
It's tough to say, but I think heavyweights are a little better in a speedrun. Middleweights are best online because the people racing are generally faster than AI, so you're more likely to get hit by items or be unable to break away. When playing against AI, hopefully you can break away ASAP and then have a relatively quiet race. I chose a middleweight for Around the Lighthouse because it is especially hard to break away with a heavyweight in that course. Then I changed to a lightweight for Minigolf (it's faster there). Then I just changed back to heavyweight and completed the rest of the race.
@@andetstk1237 It's true that it would be nice if they could integrate other game modes into the story mode, I'm looking forward to Fouks and Alayan coming back because more than 3 real players in the top 5 (where is Antonio?).... I'd like to start in story mode too (I was 6th in the ranking before) but I think my computer (core i3, 4GB RAM) won't make it with the recording. I'm currently busy trying to make the record on the volcanic island, I'm in 1:59 and you're less than 1:56. For heavy karts, I think it depends mainly on luck even if they are better in a time trial.
PS: I would like you to come back and play online because I have rarely played against you: D
@@Waxstk Antonio quit unfortunately. It would definitely be cool to see some time trial or story mode speed runs from you. 1:59 is really good as a starting point. Originally I had 1:57 before Alayan beat it. If you want you can upload a video and I can offer some tips for optimizing. And I would be down for more online races :). The problem with online is that, at least in my time zone, the few times that people are on it's usually casual players now, but I'll try to catch you online so that we can race! We can also arrange a time if you want. :)

Hi! I actually use a Nintendo Switch Pro Controller with a control scheme similar to how Mario Kart does it.
@@andetstk1237 how did you manage to connect your Nintendo Switch Pro controller to SuperTuxKart?
@@AJBlu10 If you're lucky you can connect your Pro Controller to PC with standard bluetooth or USB. I use USB but to make it work properly I have to use an external program like ProconXInput or BetterJoyForCemu
