    Of all the three strand twist out tutorials I've watched in the 7 years I've been natural, it took 3 different colors of yarn for me to finally grasp the concept 😂😂😂 Thank you!!

    This may be a dumb question but, what's the purpose of a 3 strand twist out? Like, what sets it apart from a regular twist or braid?

    • @nicolastepheny
      @nicolastepheny 7 років тому +10

      Taylor Renee' I think more volume and definition.

    • @missshannonsunshine
      @missshannonsunshine 7 років тому +21

      Taylor Renee' it looks prettier in my opinion. it has a different curl pattern

    • @Naptural85
      @Naptural85  7 років тому +133

      Hey Taylor! It gives more definition because the sections are smaller! You can't tell too much in this video because I USUALLY do such a defined two-strand FLAT-twist out, but I wanted my first try to be a "traditional" 3 strand, which means more volume, less definition. I'm definitely going to be doing this again though with my "normal" flat-twisting routine to see how it looks compared to my 2 strand flat twists! ❤️❤️❤️

    I just noticed you were in the breaking down the walls campaign for Shea Moisture. I wanted to get your take on their new commercial. They have removed the target market they were promoting the campaign to the previous year in the commercial just released. How do you feel about the imagery? Did it truly capture the target market they were looking to break the walls down for? How do you feel being a brand ambassador under the new image they have created?

    I used to swear by that deep conditioner then I realized the raw shea conditioner in the 13 oz pump bottle was the exact same ingredients but is slightly different consistency so you can get more product for less money. +Talibah Yaa -- Braids create more of a wave than a curl. Depending on one's texture and just in general whether they really care about their hair being more curly or more wavy, would determine whether it's unnecessary for a person or not.

    • @raregem8886
      @raregem8886 7 років тому +7

      No, the results are different than a braid-out! I tried it and it looks nothing like a braid-out on my hair! It looks like a super defined twist-out, with loads of volume!

    • @BZ1610
      @BZ1610 6 років тому

      Braid outs are the worse for me 😭😭
      They take a long time to dry for me and it's absolutely not worth the stress. A 3 strand twist out is like a twist out with more definition

    I know naturals have been doing three-strand twists for a long time, but I thought it was hard to do, so I never tried it. But, after watching your demonstration, I thought I would give it a try. Your directions were very easy to follow. I did it last night and today I unraveled the twists. My twist-out is super defined and more elongated than a regular twist-out. I like it! I was about to give up on twist-outs, because they always end up looking like my wash n go hairstyles, only not as good looking. But, this is a game changer in my opinion. The only drawback is that it takes a bit longer to do and my hair does not dry as fast. Other than that, it's a winner for me! : )

    Hey Whit,
    I had a question. I see you put a part straight down the middle. When you take your twists down and fluff do you try to hide the part or do you leave it? I always have the hardest time trying to get rid of my middle part without having my twist out frizz.

    • @kailapowell5500
      @kailapowell5500 7 років тому +8

      Porsha Gunishaw what you could do is try a zig zag part so that the hair falls on top of each other when you take it down. Or you could try doing a section in the middle of your head to avoid the whole middle partnthing

    Beautiful! Btw what's the song playing in the background when you take down your dried twist? It reminds me of an artist named Koni who makes remixes...please tell me 0.0 LOVE YOU WHIT! :)

    Your awesome. My fingers was so dang awkward at first.... I thought they needed 'crutches' 😂😂😂😂😂
    But I mastered it in 5 minutes on my salon head!
    I got frustrated at first because I was like... "why is it not staying"!!
    I then realized it's not good maniquin hair.
    To put it to the test.... I did a two strand and a three strand... And could see the difference!!!!
    Thanks.... you 3- strand twist guru you. ❤

    Your explanations are so EASY to understand!!! Thank you very much Whitney for another GREAT tutorial :-) It definitely gives more definition than a regular 2 strands twist out. I wonder if it's possible to do a flat 3 strands twists, at least without getting headache looool!!! Can't believe Shea Moisture add a new product to one of the original lines! They have so MANY products now, but I actually only tried the "old" yellow and pink ones lol.

    The deep treatment mask used to be my holy grail but sometime along the way they changed the formula. It used to be super thick but now it's thinner.

    Hi Naptural85! You may have answered this already so I apologize (I searched the thread and gave up). How long were you able to keep the three strand twist out style? Mine doesn't last long and when I add more product in effort to maintain hold, I get a ton of flakes. I've even retwisted my hair before bed, which works well, however over time I've noticed lots of breakage. Would love to hear if and how long you kept the style.
    Kind Regards,
    S
