Nice man! I was hoping the inlets wouldn't make a big difference that way I didn't have to go through all the work of installing them. I'm convinced now so I will be installing them next month 💁
At 16psi, you might consider installing forge or turbo smart diverter valves. I say that because Probably getting close to the max capabilities of the OEM diverter valves with 180k on them. Just a thought.
Thanks yeah, thus far I bought a set of low mileage stock valves to replace the ones on my car. They weren't leaking but I did that when I was trying to track down a hesitation issue.
Great DIY. I will getting the MMP INLETS this summer when I redo my engine mounts. It’s a little cold/wet up here in Michigan right now to be be working on a car just to work on a car 😉.
Awesome vid, I' m N55 with DPs, so I would suggest you get em next and you will really love the sound and extra power. I love your vids which is why I subscribed but keep dropping the science and I will keep thumbing you up.
That4Chan HackerGuy what is an acceptable amount of degrees on the Individual Cylinder Negative timing adjustment? What does it mean? What does it mean if say CYL2 is -3* of timing adjustment and CYL1 shows 0..? Thank You
Anthony G you are nearing knock you may want to switch plugs... It also depends on there you are seeing this though if it is a off throttle event that's ok if it's a wot pull then take a look at swapping but also the car adapts over time so you would want to check multiple logs as well
Not to take anything away from you I just don't think most people could do such a big job for a turbo inlet, Surely u could just put some compact pods straight off the turbo inlets?? Instead of all that trouble wtf was BMW thinking?? Props to you seeing that through not many would have a breathing inlet like you much respect 👍
It's a BMW, what dyu expect? Don't worry, you're likely in the minority. Many folks, including myself, don't mind spending time tearing the car down to get the desired benefits. Sure, inlets are not imperative, but when going FBO, they're necessary in order to get the best overall gains.
Daily Allowance I didn’t mean anything negative I might have came across wrong , I respect and wish I had the time but just don’t with family and work, but with your dedication and determination you will always make the best of every mod u do much respect 👍
Nice yeah you won't be disappointed. It's more about where the power is added, it feels like even more than the dyno shows as it's at a very useable part of the rev range.
Great info! I really like your detailed and relaxed approach. Did you consider the RBT inlets, they look to be very well contouredto fit like the stockers? BTW your voice sounds exactly like Donald Sutherlands".
Ya eventually I did get a custom tune to get the most out of them but inlets on an MHD off the shelf tune add a decent amount of power. The outlets not so much.
Funny story, my 335xi needs the oil pan gasket replaced and a walnut blasting. 😝 Those are 2 fairly laborious jobs. I should run down the ‘while I’m in there’ list. I’d be stupid not to, now while everything’s out. I’ve removed all the junk in the way in preparation for the nut blast lol today. 1st time for me. Wasn’t too bad with all these extremely helpful tutorials! Just waiting for stuff in the mail(probably for another week -thanks to dickflaps Master General). I mine as well replace the charge pipe, right? Ordered that. Got it yesterday. Sweet. Then I thought(I know, big mistake) well shoot, shouldn’t I get an intake to go with it?? Ordered an AEM intake, got that today. Cool. Of course I’ve been wanting to upgrade the intercooler too. It was actually #1 on the list when I got the car. Why not add that too? Done. I realized after some reading(5th grade level is godd enouhg)that it’d be smart to do downpipes when I replace the OPG, right? I mean the subframe is going to be off, and I don’t wanna do that puke dance twice if I can help it! Tonight I was looking at the inlets, how pathetic they look. All stuffed in there and funny shaped. They look defeated. So then I says to myself, I says, why, it’d be a perfect time to change those too wouldn’t it?!? While the downpipes& subframe are out!! So I watch this vid and now...F*CK YES. So now I just have to marathon my ass to FBO hahaha 😜. This is gonna require beer 🍺. Lots of it. Better stock up 🍻!!
If I get this installed, what’s a weak point this upgrade will discover? Like I know adding more power will make stuff give out sooner. Is that the case with upgraded stock location inlets or will it only help? Thanks. I currently have a 2013 335is coupe DCT with: PSP DCI, VRSF chargepipe w/ TiAL bov, ETS 5” intercooler, VRSF coated catless downpipes, upgrade PCV valve, mishimoto catch can and MHD OTS map.
People always get confusion with this because of the crap they hear from NA boys. You will not get heatsoak from the engine because we have front mount intercoolers. Dual Cone Intakes (DCI's) make your turbos work less hard on a tune as they target boost better. On stock psi dcis wont make too much of a difference besides sound. Hope this helped.
If you get inlets, you absolutely need someone who knows how to tune for it or else it will simply choke in itself and run like crap. Ask me how i know...
Yeah I installed silicone inlets on my car after the plastic ones broke it runs stock no power gains cause it will still only make 8.5 psi with no tune
Marc Schober because you can run stock air box with the OEM Cold Air Ducting from the front kidney grilles, plus you can add air scoops to make it even better and almost as if “ram air” type of setup. Also, if you live in a hotter climate or you have your 335i strictly as a DD, or for whatever reasons.. the stock air box will filter the air going into the engine a lot better of dirt/sand/dust than a cone style filter. And as a bonus you can make the intake noise quieter or louder, very easy and quickly.. The stock air box setup has proven to lower IAT’s and engine oil temps VS Relocated Inlet piping with Cone Filter & stock w/ DCI’s. With the stock air box the engine is drawing in cooler air from outside of the engine bay. Instead of pulling in hot and possibly dirty air from inside the engine bay. PS relocated filters are about a Half a Foot above the Turbo’s. I can imagine the air temp’s being a little hot.. In my opinion, go with the stock location (DS) inlets. You can either run those with the stock air box or you can run DCI’s if you feel like using those. If the weather gets nasty like in winter you can put the stock air box back in like 10 mins. Kind of a win/win really in my opinion...
I agree with what Anthony G said, I didn't like the idea of relocating the coolant tank and wanted to be able to revert back to the stock air box if I ever needed to.
I would love to do relocated because of looks, and ease of access to charge pipe, manifold, etc etc. Btw, if you get the 335d snorkel with those air scoops, it does the same thing. 335d snorkel points towards the relocated inlets, IIRC. I always heard that relocated inlets make more power, but I haven't seen any solid information. Anyway, the main selling point on OEM location for me is the fact that I don't have to drop the subframe for the install. I personally find it would be beneficial for coolant tank relocation, to keep it away from all that heat, but who knows! All in all, I will probably do OEM location because of how easy it is, lol. Great DIY, love your content!
Marc Schober Def all good points, and i hear yah on the great looks of the relocated inlets coming up from the PS. I would just go with the DS style mainly because it keeps it more on the stock side, gets parts away from the PS, and the flexibility of options while having the inlets in the stock location (DS). Also as fsr as all out power increases, then yes i think for sure the Relocated PS Inlet's. But the difference between Proper Inlets.., on the DS vs PS, the differences are very close, and therefore i wouldn't base my decision on that. To me as fsr as a power increase, there is virtually no difference for the Stock Location Inlets & Relocated Inlets... OP: i cant tell, is that an M3 gauge cluster or a modified E90 non-M cluster?
can I get your help? im getting a misfire on cylinders 4&5...I put new spark plugs in and switched the coils around and still get a misfire in the same cylinders. what do you think it could be?
If you heard the reference to driver side, it means the filter(s) are still located on the driver side with this type of inlets. Another type of aftermarket inlet moves both filters to the passenger side.

Got them for my Z4 35is. Wastgate dropped about 5%. Super nice! :)

I like this guy he's real!
Mine were hell to install. Took me 8 hours over 2 days. Without a tune I definitely felt difference. Paired with new oem turbos. 🎶
Now the question is how do outlets effect stuff, I heard they add a ton of torque (50 lbft apparently) but like 5 hp.
thanks for the motivation been adding inlets the last two days using your videos :)
I just have dci's, charpe pipe and a bov, and I'm making that noise I can't even imagine how much better it would sound with the new inlets.

i think the inlets are bigger on the N55 ! My 2011 is stock just re- adapted the gas pedal and a whole lot more power response !
Check your timing corrections for all of your cylinders that is really most important
