Very helpful thx. For rust buildup I have had success removing then rubbing grille with steel wool and lightly oiling while it heats to 400. put the grille back on, kill the heat and you're good.

Ok.. idk if it's a back woods indiana thing but I've never actually seen someone put cast iron in water... I just crank the heat up and wire brush the grate and bring the temp down and use vegetable oil and let it bake for 30-45 min. My grandpa would kill me if I drank water next to cast iron lol

The whole "no soap and water" on cast iron is a complete falsehood. It's honestly the best way to clean cast iron, as long as you get it COMPLETELY dry and re-oil before putting it away.

@@abstrax idk maybe on a simple grill grate sure but I'd divorce my wife if she put soap on my pans lol

FYI...ashes, less the wood bits, are great for outdoor plants. They add potash to the soil.

    That was very helpful, buddy!
You did not mention how often You should do this clean?
It will also be great if you could do a video on fire set up for long cooks like smoking.
    Cheers :)

What type of stand is the Akron Jr on?

Would love to see how you keep the temps low on the black kamado akorn for those longer cooks lile brisket. My temps have been getting away from me lately and I'm not sure what it could be. Whether it's too much charcoal or it's not air tight or not using the best brand of charcoal!

Great question mate! Firstly I'd make sure your bottom charcoal catch attachment seals properly. Definitely try use quality charcoal. I usually filled mine up, either put a fire lighter in or add 12-15 red hot briquettes and let the temp come up to about 150-175f, then I'd close top vent down to 1 and bottom down to about 1cm open and would sit at 250f all day. Check out some of our other videos using the Akorn. I try to cover the setup in most of them.
